So, who's this Mario Williams guy? (1 Viewer)

He's charged down the stretch from a top 5 pick to being nose for nose with Bush for #1 overall.

Any NC St. homers with deep knowledge of his game or college career?

Probably because people are a bit stunned that someone would ask the question above at a football board. To answer the question, Williams can probably be best compared to Julius Peppers. He's a big time player with virtually no weaknesses who has to be accounted for on every play - most probably by a double team. He may be the closest thing to a "sure thing" as there is in this draft.

yeah i gotta say i was against the saints taking him at #2 for a long time, but i'm slowly loving the idea, especially since he says thats where he wants to go. i just hope they have the sense to trade away one of their other DE's for another first rounder, maybe in the big trade with the jets thats rumored to be going down. will smith for dbrick maybe?

Oh I think youd get a ton of disagreement there from NFL guys. Williams didnt show up last year until the closing few games, as far as getting production. He has a very questionable motor. He should have been someone who dominated consistently throughout college.

Scouts love him for his obvious physical talent and the potential that provides.

But I would argue there are several guys, like Bush, Huff, Hawk...who are closer to "sure things".

Guilty as charged. I should have added IMO to my post.I certainly do not consider Bush to be a "sure thing", and I think there's at least one LB who more closely fits that category more than Hawk.
