Stats are just for a reference. Obviously, the guys who have

played in more games are more likely to have better totals.

But I want to know who is the best player from this group.

Some are still active, and some aren't. Career stats to date:

Terry Allen 132 games - 10,215 total yards - 79 total TDs

Jamal Anderson 89 games - 6,981 total yards - 41 total TDs

Edgar Bennett 112 games - 6,237 total yards - 31 total TDs

Charlie Garner 147 games - 10,808 total yards - 51 total TDs

Dorsey Levens 144 games - 7,289 total yards - 53 total TDs

Natrone Means 87 games - 5,846 total yards - 47 total TDs

Adrian Murrell 122 games - 6,568 total yards - 28 total TDs

Michael Pittman 119 games - 7,580 total yards - 28 total TDs

Antowain Smith 131 games - 7,863 total yards - 57 total TDs

Lamar Smith 116 games - 6,104 total yards - 45 total TDs

Duce Staley 113 games - 8,372 total yards - 34 total TDs

James Stewart 102 games - 7,556 total yards - 57 total TDs

Tyrone Wheatley 124 games - 5,862 total yards - 47 total TDs

If you're judging them by when they were at their best (not overall career) I'd go with Jamal Anderson. The year the Falcons went to the Super Bowl he was just a beast. A dominating RB that could really control the clock.

terry allen. without his numerous injuries he had enough ability to make a run at the hall of fame. allen overcame more than jamal anderson was faced with...and allen put up a good chunk of his stats after his major injury

Opened holes for five different 1,000 yard rushers:

Adrian Murrell

Warrick Dunn

Eddie George

Corey Dillon

Ladainian Tomlinson

NINE CONSECUTIVE 1,000 yard seasons with him leading the way.

A veteran of 12 seasons in the league, Neal has distinguished himself with his durability, having played in 176 consecutive regular-season games dating back to the 1994 season.

Still no respect though:

Fourth-round choice (89) by New Orleans, April 25, 1993...

signed with New York Jets, March 31, 1997 ...

traded to Tampa Bay for fifth-round pick, March 12, 1998...

released by Buccaneers, Feb. 11, 1999...

signed with Tennessee, March 23, 1999...

released by Titans, March 1, 2001...

signed with Cincinnati, May 8, 2001...

signed with Chargers, March 3, 2003.

Indeed. I figured Anderson would get the most votes, and I assumed that there would be a few "Why is Anderson even on this list... he is much better than the other guys you listed" posts. But IS he? He made the Pro Bowl only once, after a year in which he carried the ball an NFL record 410 times. I'm pretty sure that Dodds would have made the Pro Bowl if a team allowed him to carry the ball 400+ times.

Charlie Garner got my vote in a photo finish with Allen.

I don't remember providing a "OTHER" option. ;)

Jamal, Terry and Garner stand out to me.

Im gonna say Garner. He was in RBBC for much of his career and was banged up for much of it as well.

Many of these guys would have looked alot better on good teams or w/o all their injuries. Many were part of rebuilding squads, RBBC etc.

Means might be a consideration if he would have delivered my goods on time.

To be fair, Garner was banged up and/or in RBBC most of his career because he weighed 190 pounds. He could not have been a workhorse. That said, I'd still have him near the top of the list because of his explosiveness and receiving ability.

I voted for Terry Allen before even looking at the stats- purely from a football standpoint, I believe he was the best. He was a leader in Washington, and had a dominant season even after tearing both ACLs along the way. As someone noted, he had great seasons more often than Anderson did. With out the injuries meddleing with his career, he would be in the Hall. Jamal was great the one year, but an ACL knocked him down for good- this did not stop Allen, either time.

:goodposting: Allen was a warrior.

Good call. I voted for Jamal Anderson for the same reason. He had the single best season and probably the single best 2-3 year stretch of any RB on this list.

However he did disappear after one major knee injury.

Allen however was a warrior his entire career. Although he may not have been considered a superstar, there is no question he gets more respect than anyone else on this list from people that know their football.

I agree. He also was on some prtty good teams. He too was a warior so to speak, one of those guys that really wanted to be great. It would be interesting to hear from a coach or scout on this topic. Someone who knows talent beyond stats or measurables. If all of them were in this years rookie draft, which one would go first?

 good thread
