Hey all,

I came back this weekend from Vegas and I was all set to roll into the SP and catch up on things, and I gotta be honest, I'm disappointed. Not with FBG, DD, or JB, everything they are putting out is top notch, but I am a little miffed at some of the threads, some of the repsonses, and just the overall lack of communication going on right now with what everyone saw. Rather than just pick it all apart, or not say anything and go about my business, I figured i would make a suggestion box/thread, and try and get things moving in a positive direction. So here is a list of thoughts and suggestions...

-Homers that watch one game every week for the local team...WE NEED YOU. I see a lot of folks that are just looking at the box score and running with that as the end all be all, folks you're missing the boat. I would like to hear form people that watch the games...the FBG recaps have some of that but I want more opinion and usually the locals have an idea of what is happening with their team. the flipside is that when someone does share what is happening and it differs from your POV, don't be so quick to shut it down or try and 1-UP the poster. I'm not sure why everyone likes to 1-up everyone else, but it doesn't make the thread better.

-Save the "I told you so" remarks for the "I told you so" thread...in fact I would like an "Officail I told you so" thread, someone please start it. This is different than the bragging thread which most of us will never open because we don't care about your FF team.

-Brady is out for the season...who is going actually win the AFC now with Brady gone and arguably the best Defensive player in Shawn Merriman OUT for the season...both teams are likely to not make the SB I would think...who is the dark horse now?

-Is Denver really that good? is Pitt really that good? Were the Jets as pathetic as I thought even though they won?

-Philly...Philly...Philly...Philly...Philly...can we get some real debate as to whether they can keep it going? Are they the spoiler for Dallas this year?

-When you are watching the games...try and see what is going on in the trenches...WHO IS DOING THE PUSHING?! That will tell us a lot about what we can expect form the skill position players.

-Can someone disect the targets report from FBG...who is going to keep it up? Who got robbed? Who is playing over their heads?

Sorry if I sound like the board police, I'm not...but you guys are better than this. And this constant back and forth 1- upping is getting old. And JB, DD, and the rest of the folks in here shouldn't have to constantly be pruning threads. My advice if you have a completely different take or POV(which is great I might add)...start it off with something like..."I understand your POV, but what about this...and then get on the soapbox, pour stats and facts into the thread and move on.

There are a boatload of threads that should be running and aren't, sorry if your FF team took it in the chops but time to suck it up and move on. Sorry that you have the Brady/MJD/Colston trio, our thoughts and prayers are with your FF team, feel better? Good, now let's get rolling!!!

I should add that is anything I posted is floating around the SHark Pool and I missed it, please link it so i can join in, thanks.

Fewer postings complaining about the quality of postings would be a good place to start. :lmao:

Half-kidding there, but if you aren't part of the solution you're part of the problem, MoP. If you'd like to stimulate discussion about something or want to find something out, make your own post.

That would be more productive than a weekend Vegas binge. :goodposting:

:goodposting: The SP was a very integral part of why I took who I took in my redrafts, dyansty leagues, and honestly I think it has a huge impact on most people who post and read in here. Working together, a lot more league championships have been won over the past several years due to this place.

Honestly Tom, I felt it needed to be said, and I didn't single anyone poster out. I know I am not the only one that feels this way. Also, a SP with ntohing but MOP threads posted on page 1 would be a very boring place. I'm not complaining either, but making suggestions. I used the word positive in the OP...funny how people interpret different posts. I hear what you're saying but its week 1, not week 17, this place should be popping and we have more logins and posters than ever before...plus we have newbies. I actually have a fairly new poster that will be in my RB thread this week doing no less than 4 game capsules. I found him in here, loved his posts, and put him to work, haha. That is certianly a positve and the board will benefit from it. I'm not complaing Tom, merely trying to persuade everyone. ;)

MoP you suck, go away

Just kidding of course, welcome back. I agree with what you said for the most part. Except for SD and NE not making the SB... SD still can. But BUF is the team to watch. hehe.

You've got to be kidding. I've been around here since 2003 or so and the analysis here is pretty much ZERO. Even the purported "experts" lack any real game knowledge. I've seen other forums run rings around FBGs. FBGs is a place for statheads. This place puts a large emphasis on stats over actual analysis. It might be difficult to see for those who don't read many other forums than this one. Its also loaded with trolls who play board politics and thump chests and other types of degenerates. Heck the FBG staff revel in being called degenerates as a badge of honor.I'm not really sure what you're expecting but you asking for a different board.Look at Dodds. His expertise is a weekly fantasy rankings. He's not known for breaking down game film. He has his stats and other than that is about poker or whatever for him. Right now on page 1 is a thread he started about an indepth look at the numbers. He's number-crunching again. Stathead. That's not game analysis.

If you think we're trolls or statheads or useless, not much I can do about that. But read what the guy wrote. He's asking for more posts from folks that are watching the games and giving more info than the box score. That's a great suggestion. This board can definitely use that. We try to do a lot of that with the game recaps but we can use more. In fact, do some yourself. It'll make the board much better than complaining about what you think we don't have. TIA.J

I totaly agree with MoP and I have been posting a lot around here lately with the "watching the game" point of view. I sometimes seem to get caught up in the "one up the poster act" and I have been making a conscience effort to just move on and ignore the bait. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a lively discussion and some us are the "A" type personalities.

But the main reason I am here is to get other homer insights for teams I don't catch on a regular basis.

A perfect example is the Miami Homer thread where I chimed in on the Ricky/Ronnie debate. I was trying to point out that regardless of what you think your seeing the coaching staff is commited to Ricky Williams being a major part of that offense. I am then construed as being a biased Ricky owner. Fine...if you don't want insite on the inner workings of the team from a guy who is on top of this team every day as well as the fact I have a few very close friends in the South Florida sports media.....no problem don't take my posts as good advice...form you own opinion. I am going to make an effort to tone down some of my posts. It should not get persnoal to the point of personal attacks (I was not attacked on that thread BTW...but it could have went there).

I also agree...waaaaaaay too many AC threads in the SP those need to be moved ASAP. Too many good threads get kncoked off the first 2 pages because of AC stuff as well as lazy ### posters who can't use the search function...man that drives me nuts.

MOP, any criticism you've made here is constructive, IMO. The SP should be a place to become a better fantasy FB player, not a place where one goes to be proved inferior. I've been the most successful fantasy FB player in my local $ league, but that didn't happen in a vacuum. I have always been a knowledgeable football fan. However, it wasn't until I came here that I learned how to win consistently at fantasy FB. To me, this place is the biggest reason for my success. The quality insight is still here, but there's alot more junk to filter thru to find it nowadays. It takes much longer to find the worthwhile info. Anyway, I hope the purpose of your post finds success.

Dude. We're doing our best over in the Charger in season thread - what more do you want? :cry:But seriously, you've been around here long enough by now to know that the month leading up to the season opener and the month or two after that are the best of times and the worst of times for the shark pool. Way more activity than during the rest of the year, but a very high noise to signal ratio. It always improves after about week 7 or 8 when people who's teams are out of it lose interest (except the hard core who stay just to see who Dodds over ranks next and what rookie RB Switz falls in :goodposting: with next  ).Buck up little camper!

Without a doubt this is the best place for fantasy info. I use other sites but after winning the first FFTOC I endorsed this site as the site with the best and most info. I still feel the same way. But I do agree with MOP that there are quite a few worthless threads either stating what people think they know or threads trying to one up someone else. I kind of pick and choose the threads that might be relevent to fantasy football and forget the others that relate to how good or bad a poster is. I seldom post but do answer a few posts when I think I have something relevent to say. I appreciate all the posters that help me each year in my leagues.

Nature of the beast. Week 1 of the NFL season. Everyone thinks they have a Championship team and wants to hype thier players

Add the fact that there have been too many big name injuries and non-substantial threads are the natural result, happens every year around this time.

Great post. I tried doing just that, posting how impressed I was with the Panthers after week 1. I said I thought this team COULD even return to the SB. Instead of "hey, good analysis" or "how did Jarrett look on those 2 catches" I got "slow down, get real homer, blah blah blah" Luckily for every moron here who does nothing but get in pissing contests, there are 2 or 3 good posters who do get it. :goodposting:

One thing I've notice is the somewhat lax position on obvious ACF type posts. There was a time they didn't fly in the SP at all. Recent example is the Brady injury thread that was started minutes after he went down. As a Moss owner, I was looking for Brady injury news. However it was quickly filling up with "who should I drop for Cassel?" posts. When I'm looking for injury updates I see posts like "Should I drop Steve Slaton for Cassel?"I was a little surpised my post that mentioned the ACF-type posts got deleted, but posts like "Shut up! I have thought the SP has been well maintained this year.I try to report as many threads that need to be moved, deleted etc...Easier than bumping a thread telling someone they made a mistake.

I have not posted all that much here, so maybe I have not really earned the right to complain, but... I've got to get it off my chest anyway.

One thing that I find highly annoying on this board is the posts with only a single smilie or phrase (like "oh no") that say NOTHING. If this really is a SHARK pool, then the inhabitants should speak with some knowledge. I mean, please, can you add at least a little commentary about why you think something is a good post or not. Express an opinion, or don't post.

The worst is when someone quotes a quote of a quote of a quote, and there is like 8 embedded quotes and you have to scroll

and scroll

and scroll

and scroll

just to find out that somebody says... :excited:

:excited:If it's that bad Beej, why don't you just go?
8/10 of people who have been around for five or more years AND joined this past May are statistically more likely to offer proverbial, nay, hyperbolististic analysis of the status of the accumulation of datum of said forum and the likely hood of this information to be historically congruent to data trends of past seasons of similar consequence.Oh.. and grab John Carlson if you can.

I enjoy reading your stuff around here MOP but you're as guilty as anyone else around here(probably me too, no pot kettle thing)

quit thinking "my thread is so different" then posting stuff like this

http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=420900

that could go in any number of other vince young threads

During the games how many people start threads about their comments rather than commenting in the game thread? I mean cmon. There's little useful beneath the pinned game threads for several hours because of this.

BTW that other comment about insulting statheads and yet loving fantasy sports, that makes alot of sense.

MOP...Isn't it always like that in here at this time of year?

But seriously...I could write a serious 2 page explanation explainnig why Philly has an outstanding chance to oust Dallas and rep the NFC this year....but almost nobody will read it! :lmao: Maybe after this Monday they will!

I figured someone would do that (although your quoting me 4x was creative). It was kind of funny and yet annoying at the same time. Very oxymoronic.
:reported:calling other people a moron, is not cool
Uh, that's not at all what I was saying. An oxymoron is different from a moron. An oxymoron is a figure of speech which produces an seemingly self-contradictory effect, as in “cruel kindness” or “to make haste slowly.” Which is appropriate in this situation. He is saying that scrolling over and over again only to see "good posting" is annoying, and yet... that's exactly what he did. I'm not making a personal attack, I'm just pointing out it's an oxymoron.

MOP forgot to note that the Shark Pool should not attempt "humor." Plenty of fine examples why in this thread.

Whether or not you are intending it, you do sound more and more like the forum police. I feel like the SP has completely been overhauled these past two years with regards to garbage posting. I am sorry but being this militant leads to lack of personality. There are always going to be guys like yourself who have the time to post their well written thoughts and there are always going to be guys who do not. The end result is that this community's value has gone up with regards to knowledge transfer each and every year. Sometimes I login to read a long opinion, get a laugh from a stupid post or just look to oogle at phlash's avatar. Either way the end product is outstanding and gets better each year. I do not want to login here to watch tree's grow. I come here to be informed and have fun. Plain and simple. And as long as I am professional while doing it - so what?

I figured someone would do that (although your quoting me 4x was creative). It was kind of funny and yet annoying at the same time. Very oxymoronic.

TIA.J
There have been many times I have been tempted to do comprehensive write ups about the games I watched, especially the Giants and Jets since I watch every game of theirs. However, I then read any number of threads around here and see the consistently toolish behavior of many regular posters and I lose the will to spend my time to help out. I spend most of my FBG time in the ACF now since the tool level there is far, far lower. Of course when someone wants help, they will be nicer. When they just want to flame, they come to the SP. And your answer to just report it seems to be a waste because there really hasn't been a change. Either people aren't reporting or you guys aren't doing anything about it. Not sure which it is, but I have limited time to spend here due to a very busy job so personally, I am not going to spend much time trying to change things and instead will just participate very sporadically.

ministry as always your wisdom is greatly appreciated. one poster i look foward to reading on football guys. you addressed my biggest concern on message boards. "im smarter than you- ha ha " the message boards in my opinion are the key to my ff sucess just get tired of pettiness. everyone keep up the good work the shark pool led me to draft hightower c johnson and eddie royal thank you shark pool!
 The SP was a very integral part of why I took who I took in my redrafts, dyansty leagues, and honestly I think it has a huge impact on most people who post and read in here. Working together, a lot more league championships have been won over the past several years due to this place.
It needed to be said. The trolling and flamebait in these forums has gotten way out of hand and detracts from the quality of information and opinion in the SP.Add to the discussions, point support for or data against the topic, but stop calling people stupid for their opinions. It doesn't help any of us. Anybody ever see that image about arguing on the internet? =)There's that wonderful Report This Post link on every reply. I suggest we use it more instead of escalating a flaming post into an all-out inferno. Takes less time and gets better results than replying and saying "No, you're stupid!!!"

The offense? Yeah. Last year's offense looked unnaturally poor because of the RIDICULOUS rash of injuries to the offensive line. Every one of last year's starters really should have been backups (and currently ARE backups, unless they were cut or retired). Add in Cutler's maturation (and the diabetes diagnosis), and you have an offense primed for a HUGE step forward due to nothing more than player development and regression to the mean on the line. Add in Eddie Royal, the growth of Scheffler and Marshall, and an improved RB situation (it's stabilized, which makes it improved by default), and you're looking at an offense poised to return to the ranks of the elite. The defense? No freaking clue. The defense has an absolute stud at every level (Dumervil in the front 4, Williams in the middle 3, Bailey in the back 4), but so many unknowns around them that this defense could be elite or terrible and I wouldn't be surprised. I expect them to fall right around mediocre, but really that's just a guess.Denver's got a ton of youth right now. Almost half the starters haven't yet completed 3 years in the league. That makes them a volatile team... but they are a tremendously talented one as well. Denver's fall happened to occur about 3 years after the dark drafts of 2000-2005. Its rise is coinciding with the 3-year anniversary of the miracle drafts of 2006-2008. This isn't a coincidence. Seriously, everything Shanahan has touched in the draft for the last 3 years has turned to gold- Cutler is clearly the best QB in his class, Scheffler was criticized as a reach but has definitely lived up to his draft status, and Marshall was a late-round steal. Thomas and Harris are both performing way over their draft positions. Clady and Royal are both living up to the hype and then some. Lots of complimentary players in guys like Kuper, Hillis, etc. The 2006 and 2008 draft will possibly go down as two of the three best in Broncos history. This is a team that will suffer growing pains, but will be getting a lot better in a hurry.

as a Charger fan who follows the AFC West closely, I hate to admit it but the Broncos are back. I'm drunk off the Cutler kool-aid; his physical talent has always been there but I was never sure it would ever click. Detractors will point out that it was just one game, and they have a point, but the Raiders defense was outstanding last year, and Cutler just carved them up.

I'm not sold on Royal as a superstar yet, although it's impossible to not be impressed with how dominant and heady he was Monday night. If he does turn out to be the real deal, Cutler has an MVP or 2 ahead of him in his future.

Did I mention that I like Jay Cutler?

I agree with the premise of the original post, it would be nice if more posters who saw the game or saw an individual play would actually post. I guess when I read much of the stuff on here that I assume that's already what's going on. I don't think you need to be a local to comment on it.....if you're watching the game via NFL package or just because it's the game that's on nationally, if you're watching it I'd love to read your opinion.

I've been very surprised to read a full thread, then someone is making some pretty bold statements about a player, then the admit that they didn't see the game but saw highlights. I have to scratch my head at that. If I haven't watched a game, I know I'm more of a listner and may even ask a question in that thread to those that saw it. For those that don't think there's a BIG difference in watching highlights and watching the game in its entirety, try it.

Don't just watch the snap of the ball....watch Calvin Johnson on a play and see how he gets down field. Does he run all his routes hard? Is he getting doubled often? How does he do with a physical corner? Is he getting pushed out of bounds with regularity?

Do that and more. Focus on the offensive and defensive lines etc.....

The other big thing in the Shark Pool is repeating threads. I know some things are accident, but much of it isn't.

For example, I started an Aaron Rodgers bandwagon thread maybe 3 weeks or so before the season. AFter Aaron Rodgers does well versus Minnesota, we have a thread that says he's going to be a top 5 QB or something like that. Do we really need that thread or can that statement be made and talked about in the Aaron Rodgers bandwagon thread that was created before it.

There are numerous examples and the mods can't be expected to keep up with it. We need to be more responsible as posters to try and keep this place clean. We all try and be excellent, but being excellent sometimes means being assertive and not passive.

Orginally, I am not sure I liked the post by MOP, telling everyone he was disappointed what he saw but maybe it's not a bad idea very early in the season to throw it out there. For those of us who frequent these boards all year long, if we see something we know there's a similar topic on.....maybe post in that thread a link to the original thread without being rude.

If we see a WDIS thread, direct them to the ASST. Coach. With that said, I encourage some of you guys that claim you're pretty good at this hobby to stop by the ASSt. Forums. I know many of us are too good to come out and ask for help, but there are some pretty interesting questions in there, and I know I'm trying to spend a few minutes a day just answering a couple questions if I have an opinion on something.

Here's another point that irks me on these boards. People who reply without reading the whole post, or actually reading what's typed. I've seen a lot recently where people respond accusing someone of saying something that wasn't even close to what was in the original post. Take some time to read and digest, and maybe there'd be less clutter of meaningless replies on this board.

I think there is actually quite a bit of analysis/different perspectives here around the specific players situations, comparisons or player rankings. Yes, maybe there could be some more analysis behind the box scores.

I like stats - 4 out of 3 people don't understand stats near as well as I do
