Someone broke into my car & tried to steal the driver's seat&# (1 Viewer)

Came out this morning and saw the inside light was on. The door was slightly ajar. The seat was in a strange position and not anchored to the floor. Looks like they broke it in the front, underneath where it's connected. Not sure if a part of the seat below, like a pin is missing. They popped the hood too, I guess to steal parts but I don't notice anything missing or broken. The car starts up and sounds ok. Threw the contents of my glovebox everywhere but there wasn't anything in there of value. Basically broke into my car to break the seat. I guess they either couldn't get it out or they got spooked and bailed. Either way, I'm pissed. Great way to start the day. How much do they charge you to fix a seat? Not sure I want to report it to insurance.

Wow that sucks. I've forgotten tot lock the doors and have had my change stolen, etc... But never a broken seat. What exactly were they trying to accomplish there? Who steals a seat??

Some cars have their startup security computer systems under the seat. There are some "hacks" out there that can bypass keylock ignitions. Most likely they were trying to bypass your keylock to get it started and going and were too dumb to figure out how to do it, or got caught while doing it.

I had stuff in the trunk of a little value but they didn't go in there. I don't know how they got in. One of the doors could have been unlocked. I'm not sure.

Sorry that was me and a girl.

We needed a place to have sex without being interrupted by her kids.

1. She was bigger gal, so I had to move the seat around so we could get comfortable.

2. I was looking for a condom and assumed you would keep one in the glove box.

3. I popped the hood of the car so I could hook her nipple clamps up to the car battery.

Huge misunderstanding man.

I don't think i have that. Maybe they thought I did. They popped the hood but it's a tricky latch, maybe they couldn't figure out how to get in there. I'm reading these guys like to take batteries. They could have popped the trunk from the inside but didn't.

It's probably the dentist you pissed off last week exacting his revenge. He installed an X-ray machine under your seat that will take 20 x-rays of your ### every time you drive. Enjoy the ball cancer.

Do I bother reporting this to the cops? Worth the hassle of going down and filing a report? I'm anti-hassle. Nothing was stolen. Can i just call and have them log it?

What kind of car? If it is newer, they could have jacked with airbag sensors and the repair could get quite pricey.

The Ricaros in my Mustang were a $1600 factory option - terrified on what they would cost to be replaced.

I would call them just so they have it noted. If its happening in the area, they'll propbably step up the patrol in that neighborhood.

There's a wire connected to the middle of the seat that looks intact. I've been having issues with drivers side window, needed to bring it in anyway, will have them fix this while there I guess. It does look like a pin is missing. There's one on passenger side seat that is not on drivers side seat.

Called the police station and had them log it. Said the area was already the focus of the week, they'd pass it on to night desk to bump up overnight patrol. Would have to go to the station to file a report and just don't think I'm going to.

Which presidential candidate do you think would do a better job protecting the public against car break-ins?

People often steal cars for specific parts. Maybe they had an order for a seat. Years ago I had a car stolen. When they found it both front seats were gone, passenger side front quarter panel was gone and some part under the hood I am forgetting. Cop told me they see cars stolen for parts a lot.

See what happens when you piss off Dentist and don't purchase their excessive tests and procedures?

Next time you'll wake up to a surprise that doesn't involve your car...

Thanks to the guys who gave serious answers. As for the rest of you I'll be sure to drop a log in your thread if you're ever the victim of a crime. Unbelievable.

New here? No...no you're not. Well, I'm out of explanations as to why you'd expect different responses in the thread

If there is any chance that you are going to file with your insurance, I'd do the report with the police. If the repair is more than your deductible, go with insurance.

Took it in this morning. They broke the bracket in front and cracked a piece in back trying to rip it out. Had to order the parts. Guy said it looked like amateur hour, could have gotten it out if he knew what he was doing. Didn't have to break it. How sad does your life have to be to do #### like this? Infuriating.

I'm just gonna pay it. I was hit last year and although my insurance didn't go up I'm sure this would make it go up.

I just wanted to vent. It's been a rough year, one thing after another, didn't need this. The holidays were already going to be tight. I'm just pissed. It could be worse, i know. It's just a car, just money.

Most thieves are thieves because they're too dumb and/or lazy to do anything else. I had my Jeep broken into twice in college. I made sure to leave absolutely nothing in it. The first time, they slashed the rear window to get in (it had zippers...all they had to do was unzip it.). Stole nothing. Cost me to replace the window. After that, I just started leaving my car unlocked. I had an alarm, and I think every couple months, it would've gone off. A few times I found the door wide open....and one time, they bent the window frame out at a 45 degree angle. Again...It had zippers, and was unlocked. The expensive part was never what they took, because there was nothing to take. It was just the cost of repairing their amateur attempts to break in.

Sorry man. It sucks. Even when they don't take anything.

Thanks. Yeah, just causing damage instead of stealing something pisses me off. Would be less pissed if I did something dumb and left a tablet in the car or something. I've never left anything of value in the car and never thought in a million years someone would try to rip out the seat. Almost afraid they're going to come back with the right tools and steal the thing after I have it fixed.

Buy some fake poo and leave it on the seat. Half-joking, half-serious here.

I'm surprised they didn't crap in the car themselves. Such blatant disregard for someone elses property, why not take a dump in there too? I looked all over to see if they spit or puked.

I would have guessed under post 11 for dentist joke.
Would have done it earlier when I first misread that they pooped on the hood...but once I read it again I decided against it.

Hey guys! Saw some good "online" deals on driver's seats today. Tried to pick one up but I misplaced my tools credit card. Going to try again tomorrow.

In college my roommate had his seat stolen from a VW GTI. He strapped a lawn chair down with tie downs and drove like that for at least 6 months.

I guess I should be thankful they didn't get the seat and only broke the bracket. Could have been worse.

Do you have a nice butt? Somebody might want it to sniff the seat.

You guys are about as good at jokes as the guy was at stealing car seats. Not even one little chuckle. If you have to take a dump at least be a tiny bit clever.

What about a car alarm?

one time i had my car stolen (jacked sort of) while delivering pizza

got it back a month and a half later

it still had the hotbags in it with a pizza tn them that i had not yet delivered, and they did not take my cash from the center console

thieves are strange, they should've eaten the pizza

They might. Drive by the local body shops and see if there is the same model of yours in their lot to be worked on. You never know.
