anyone else been following the Ultimate Depth Chart at all on ESPN?

Those are supposed to be some of the most ingenius and innovative minds in all of football and all they could come up with was a New England/Carolina rematch for the Super Bowl?

That was a completely boring series they did, none of them seemed to put much thought or passion into their picks.

gimme a break, it would have been nice to see one or all of them go against the grain and show a little bit of creativity

Anyone else follow it ?

do you guys agree or disagree with their logic for picking the Super Bowl contestants and winners?

That's exactly what was used to make picks... logic. These guys should not be paid to have "balls" in making their picks.

You sound like you'd be a big fan of Skip Bayless.

Edit: FYI my pick is Panthers over Chiefs... if and only if KC gets Ty Law

I thought they were just over analyzing last years playoffs again before they picked NE and Carolina

I watched the one when they ranked the top run D's and I believe it was Chicago they rated high yet they were pedestrian stopping the run and they talked of their great pass D. Anything with Salisbury on the panel means it is not worth listening to.

With that being said the NFC team will be from the NFC East. I like Dallas to do it (a little homer talk possibly) with the Skins a runner up as I see them takin huge steps as well.

In the AFC I see Rivers taking the Chargers to the top. The D is solid and I think his arm strength and gusto akin to Favre makes him upgrade the Chargers O. I see more numbers from the WRs this year due to arm strength.

Otherwise I like Indy to make that final step now.

Dark Horse in the AFC is Baltimore. I see that offense going places with Mcnair leading them.

Dark Horse in the NFC is Arizona. A top ten D, an explosive offense, and now a workhorse back has shades of St. Louis circa 1999 and Minny circa 1998.

Better than some dumb pick like a 6th seeded wild card team winning 4 games on the road to take it all. Yeah, and maybe throw in a QB making a game-saving tackle. Something like that would REALLY be messed up.

They also only had like 2 different playoff teams this year.

Still going with KC > WAS until Larry Johnson's homeworld calls him back.

ESPN didn't decide it, the ESPN nation did. They had online polls each day to determine which team would advance to the Super Bowl. Blame the chowder heads with internet access.

So why go thru the rankings like they did?I don't get it...if you are going to grade every team in every aspect of the game, why not combine the grades to come up with the winners??

The real problem with this is that nowadays teams come out of nowhere to make the playoffs and make super bowl runs despite no major improvements, and teams go from super bowl caliber to cellar dweller with no major losses, but as soon as an expert picks a Buffalo/Atlanta Super Bowl they are mercilessly heckled into oblivion.

This statement rang truer two years ago. The last four teams to make the SB don't fit that profile at all, and the team with the best record in 2004 won the Super Bowl in 2005 (well, February 2006).

How many time has LaDainian Tomlinson finished as the #1 runner over the last three years?

Yet he's continually drafted #1 overall.

logic

I agree with you completely. They took prety much the same playoff field as this year. Somebody remarked that they should pick based on logic and not on "guts." Well they basically just spat out last year's playoff field with a couple obvious additions and subtractions. They added KC and dropped Cincy in the AFC. In the NFC they added DAL and removed STL I believe. These guys are supposed to anaylze the league and then be insightful. What kind of insight does it take to pick the same playoff teams as last year essentially? It's comical. To listen to them debate who they were going to predict to advance to the SuperBowl was like listening to a couple of old timers sitting on the sofa drinking a cold one discussing the NFL. It was pathetic.

no risk.

I don't believe this is true. They had Sportsnation make picks, but the picks they made IIRC were sometimes different.

Not picking the Colts is going against the grain...

I think that picking anybody but Indy, NE, Pitt, Car or Seattle to win the next Super Bowl is going against the grain. NOTE: Yes, I do think picking Denver to win the next Super Bowl is against the grain, mainly because of their tough division. Same with any NFC East team.

St Louis didn't make the playoffs last year. They did add Dallas and they knocked the Giants out. Which was comical considering NY was the 8th ranked team in their poll and Dallas was 14th. I can't recall if they had NY ahead of Washington too.

I don't see an NFC East team making the SB. I think it's the toughest division in football and all the teams are good enough to make a run, however they're going to take turns beating each other up, with the winner of the division going 10-6, maybe 11-5. That's typically not good enough to get a bye. History has shown that in the NFC you need the bye to make the Bowl.

You are correct sir. I just looked on ESPN's site and what the fans picked and what the "experts" picked came out differently. Sportsnation voted Pittsburgh vs Carolina. My apologies to the chowdah heads :D
