Sunday was a bad day for quarterbacks in the NFL as yet another starter will miss time due to injury.

Lions starting quarterback Dan Orlovsky sprained a ligament in his thumb on his throwing hand and will miss the next few weeks, and perhaps even longer, FOXSports.com has learned.

Orlovsky will have his right hand placed in a cast for the next couple weeks to see how quickly it heels before the Lions decide when he can return to action.

Orlovsky was 28-of-47 for 292 yards in Sunday's 27-23 loss to the NFC North-leading Bears. He threw two touchdowns and two interceptions as the Lions dropped to 0-8. With the Bengals' win on Sunday, Detroit is now the only winless team in the NFL.

In related news, former NFL MVP Daunte Culpepper is expected to take a physical in Detroit on Monday and sign a two-year deal with the team afterwards. It is unclear when he would be ready to step onto the field for Detroit.

Culpepper should be ready almost immediately.

Lions playbook reads like this:

1st and 10: QB drops 5 steps back, runs for life, chucks ball in vicinity of Calvin Johnson.

All other downs: repeat play one.

Orlo was actually playing decent and getting Calvin the ball. Now we gotta watch Peps run, fumble, and throw ints. Trade Calvin now or is it the reincarnation of Peppers to Moss?

Peppers hasnt had a WR of Moss' caliber since he left Minny?

Peppers only 4 years removed from 39tds 11ints and is only 31????

Hmmmmmmmmm (haha planting those seeds of suspicion)

Reality check:

It will take time for him to learn playbook + get on page with wrs + get in football shape

Dont expect much this year, definite sleeper candidate next year.

Fixed.

Why wouldn't Stanton get a chance? He's a 2nd round pick, are the Lions counting their losses with the kid before he even steps on the field?

Late last week, Lions offensive coordinator Jim Colletto admitted that he wouldn't play the second-year quarterback because "he didn't want to embarrass him,"

But he'll have no problem embarassing a veteran QB that hasn't played a game in how long? And just signed with the team 5 days before his first game back?Next week ought to be a great rebound game for Jax.

Un-Freakin-believable! I was watching that game thinking...."Wow, Orlovsky looks pretty decent this week"....had a lead over the Bears. Was feeling good about Calvin going forward. I don't know how much the bad knee was affecting Culpepper in the last 2 years but he looked god awful. I think Moss made him and he had a decent run game then too. I am not optimistic at all over this. :lmao:
