South Jersey Shore Rentals (1 Viewer)

SUPER ELITE UPPER TIER
I know most people have their places on lock by now, but because of a family emergency, we had to put our summer vacation plans on hold. We were supposed to head down to Mexico, but that had to be shelved for another year.

That said, I was wondering if anyone in this area knows of the best way to look for last minute rentals for the Shore. In the past, we've always stayed at one of two friend's houses down there, but this year both of them have their places rented for the summer. So I'm completely new to having to look for a place.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

In the long run, it's probably cheaper to go to Mexico.

Where about's in SJ?

Huge difference in price from one tow to the next.

How long?

www.islandrealtylbi.com

www.agerrealty.com

www.homeaway.com

The first two are pretty focused on Long Beach Island, which is quiet, family-oriented, and has both ocean and bay options.

Sure the SJ shore is expensive, but it's literally 90 minutes or less from most parts of the Philadelphia area, thus the premium.

Do you know what beach you and your family are looking to go to? You probably know this already, but each shore town has its own flavor/age range/family vs. not as much family friendly. Really just what you and your family want. The rental company websites are pretty good to get a gauge on what's left and what pricing you're looking at, I've found them to be pretty accurate/up-to-date.

I can speak to Ocean City, Sea Isle, Avalon, and Wildwood having spent time at one of them at some point in my life, and at least have heard of the others.

Lol true bubbles.

sheik what are you looking for...

bars... kids stuff...rides ....beach all day...etc

My family's been getting a shore house in lavallette since 1986, they go through Schlosser Realty. Don't know much about em but all the families go there together to book their places

My pals and I rent in Sea Isle City. This is my realtor I use. Very good people. Sea Isle is a younger crowd in the bar areas, but can be family friendly from 60th St and further down.

In laws just bought a house there. Great little beach town. Good nightlife, restaurants, bars, etc, nice little "boardwalk" which is actually a long strip of pavement along the beach.

We usually go to Ocean City or Avalon. My GF loves Cape May. Wildwood is always fun to go to, but I have no desire to actually stay there. The three places I listed are a nice distance away from WW so if we get the urge to do the boardwalk, we could just drive up there.

Mexico is out not because of the money, but because of the family emergency. We don't want to be too far away from home.

I had my very first bottle of Mackeson's Stout at the Crab's Claw Inn. Maybe you were there. I haven't seen that stuff on a store shelf in a long time.

Whatever you do, don't go to Ocean City, NJ. They don't sell booze there!
:lmao:

Personally, if I'm taking two young kids out to the boardwalk to play some skee-ball after dinner, I'd rather not have to worry about them weaving through crowds of drunk college kids or slipping in puddles of vomit. But maybe that's just me.

Plus, one of the most understated benefits of OC being dry is that it forces you to load up the fridge and liquor cabinet at your place, which in turn encourages you to fire up the grill and pop open a bottle after a long day at the beach instead of going down the street and blowing $150 on dinner and drinks.

Hey Sheik, have you tried looking on VRBO? Honestly I don't know how "last-minute" friendly they are, but in general they've always had a pretty decent selection of rentals, in OC at least. Plus you avoid feeding the vampire bats that are the Jersey Shore rental agencies. :porked:

What is VRBO?

Buddy of mine had a beach house by Mantoloking. Demolished after Sandy, but rebuilding this summer. Bad timing...

Anyway that's North Jersey ...

You've never heard of VRBO? :o

Vacation Rentals by Owner ... basically exactly what it sounds like, a bunch of owners putting their vacation homes up for daily / weekly / monthly rentals directly instead of forking over 15% or whatever to a rental agent. It's become my go-to site any time we're going someplace without a huge hotel presence for a week or more.

514 homes for rent as of right now in Ocean City alone. Who knows how many will be available on short notice ... but on at least one occasion I've booked a really nice place through here literally days in advance, so good luck.

Love the Claw! My buddy is listed on the wall of the 99-Beer Club. Six times.

HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU MY FRIEND...

Had my first Mackeson's at the house of a friend in LA during college. His dad was one of the area's leading anesthesiologists. Awesome home in the hills. And (at the time) the best weed we'd ever stolen. In the fridge but not too cold were some Macks - it was like drinking candy.

Was one of my fav brews and then, poof, disappeared.

About a month ago, what's sitting on the shelf of my local beer distributor? You got it. Mackeson's Stout.

Apparently they had lost a distributorship / export channel to the U.S. or the brewery closed for a period, something. But they are back. And as tasty as ever.

It's a family vacation. And I know the Jersey Shore very well.

Awesome. Like I said, we've never had to worry about getting a place before because we always had one. So this process is completely new to me.

I used them for a last minute (well, more of a late change of plans type thing) a few years ago... it worked out real well for me. We spent a week In Wildwood Crest at a nice lady's townhouse near the beach.
