I am in a league that has DEF and ST separate..

you get points for return yardage and kicks returned for TDs punts and Kickoffs

you lose points for the same...

so outside of KC, who are the return teams to look for??

and on the other side, who are the coverage teams to look for? touchbacks are the best, as there are no return yards..

any thoughts?

We draft a ST too. There are just too many points to give a DEF. So, we seperate them too. We give 1 point per 20 yds kick return and 1 pt per 10 yds punt return, no negative points All TDs 6 points.I use this:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/statistics?s...son=2&year=2005

To start my projections. Notice I have it sorted by punt yards. Then I add up all last years points to see how they did last year. This is a tool and not to be used to project this years top ST.

It serves as a reminder of who did what and who has the best return guys.

You can do the same to check DEF return leaders to see who gave up the most last year. I match up last years top ST to last years weakest DEF return team, add in personell knowledge and project who will score more.

I also note teams with new coaches as they sometimes stumble out of the blocks.

Quick example Chicago has 3 new coach in their division. Check um out.

Note: I don't know what rough numbers teams have, this is just an extreme example.

Just curious, There it is, but do you also factor in the number of punts/kick offs by teams? I think that could also skew the data as far as teams with good ST coverage units.

Team A may have only had 38 punts and 46 kickoffs however they allowed 19.3 YPR whereas Team B would have 31 punts and 70 kickoffs but they only allowed 16.2 YPR.

Totals would mean that Team A would've given up 1621 yards and Team B would've given up 1636 yards but Team B would be getting penalized for giving more opportunities.

Here are last year's rankings based on 6 points per TD, 1 point per 20 punt return yards, and 1 point per 40 kickoff return yards:

1 Houston

2 NY Giants

3 Buffalo

4 Tennessee

5 Cleveland

mike thanks..guess i should have laid out the scoring..can you post another for the below scheme?1/10th pt average yards punt and kickoff return for - 1/10th pt average yards punt and kickoff return Against + 6 for TD returned for - 6 for TD returned against...

going average takes care more punt or KO returns than the opposing team, should the defense be really good, or crappy..

thanks so much for the list you psoted

Mr. Noneother:

At the moment, I don't have return-stuff-allowed incorporated into my database. I'll be adding it before September, and will be tracking it weekly in a new feature during the upcoming regular season.

Short answer. Yes. Thats why I included the link. However if you check, my scoring is 1 pt for 20 yds per Kickoff. So, 1000 yds is 50 pts.

Not too exciting, but if a team struggles to move the ball and Punts a lot. You better believe I notice it. Same w/a team that receives a lot of punts by design.

The key is TDs, knowing return personel and opportunity.

My example of Chicago is serious, they have 8 games against new head coaches. That does not show up in any statistic unless you are looking for it.

there it is, i took chicago ST this week.. my whole season is in your hands!!good luck
THIS SO DESERVES A PROPER SHOUT!!!!!!!!big man love There it is!!!!!!!one playoff victory... even though I cruashed w/o the 2 TDs!!!!going to the second round.....yippe kayee
