Sports announcers saying stupid things -- post 'em in here (1 Viewer)

Phil Simms make no sense constantly. @philsimmsquotes on twitter. He actually says these things on air.

My favorite yesterday was when he was talking about how great the field conditions in Denver looked. As he's saying that, the camera is going around showing all the divets and dirt on the field. That field was a wreck and there's ol Phil Simms singing it's praises.

I've always had one pet peeve with Simms. He does it constantly.

"On Friday, we asked John Fox about Wes Welker, and what did he tell us.....?"

I give up, Phil. I wasn't in the meeting. What DID he tell you?!
How about the way he say him, heeeeem.
Chris Rose does that on Intentional Talk, but he does it that way on purpose. "Got HEEEEEEEEEEEEM!"
That's a Brian Wilson thing. He would play practical jokes in the SF Giants clubhouse, and when they worked, he popped out and yelled "GOT HEEEEEEEEM!" Since then, this stupidity has taken on a life of its own.

Anybody catch Phil Simms on Thursday night Ravens game? They were talking about the Ray Rice situation and they put up his stats from his career, year by year. The last year stats didn't look so good, had some injuries, but Phil chooses these words:

"We all know that Ray was beat up last year...." (self defense, right?)

Simms cadence is always off. He never puts the right inflection on his words. Which is even worse when they always seem to be the wrong words.

Watching the Falcons/Bucs game right now and reminded of pet peeve. It is annoying when an announcer says something happened during the original play call and then when the replay shows that what they said didn't actually happen, they still insist it did happen as they originally stated as if we cannot see with our own eyes.

I am specifically referring to the high pass that was thrown by the Tampa Bay QB right before he threw the Pick 6. It was referred to as a very catch-able pass and in the replay shows that it wasn't a very catch able pass.

"There is a change in strategy now -- Glennon is warming up." -Simms

[As McCown walks to the locker room injured on CBS's cameras.]

Speaking of punting, can we just eliminate the punting and kickoffs already? How many times do we have to watch a run get called back due to a blocking in the back penalty. Or better yet, let's turn the blocking in the back penalty into an automatic point for the other team.

So sick of those flags.

"He's off the charts. He's everything you could ever want. He opens the door for elderly ladies."

some college football ####### announcer

Not an announcer purse hay but I was listening to Dan Patrick on the wireless the other day I think he was talking to Rich Eisen about all the NFL hubbub.

Eisen used the term "optics".

Mark Jones: "This game (Oregon at Washington State) is living up to all the hype!"

:oldunsure:

The Ducks were favored by 24 points.

This thread would be shorter if it just had stuff that Simms said that made sense.

NEW YORK (AP) -- CBS lead analyst Phil Simms plans to try to avoid saying ''Redskins'' during Washington's nationally televised game against the New York Giants. The network airs the matchup Thursday night as part of its new NFL package. Simms first told The Associated Press last month that he would call the team ''Washington'' during the broadcast.

Simms' broadcast partner, play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz, said it's ''not my job to take a stance.''
Wow, Jim Nance trying not to be controversial. That's a first.

"They play so much man coverage, the Wash Reee… the Washington team does." - He's breaking down slowly.

I am utterly amazed at how the NFL and CBS can keep thinking it is a good idea to put Phil Simms out for these telecasts. He had this gem tonight when Paul was laying on the ground (might be little paraphrased at this point):

"When a guy's hands are up...... it is possible he might be out".

I mean this guy is just an absolute dummy. it is just insane that nobody at these multimillion dollar companies thinks it is a problem to keep rolling these guys out here.

To be fair, his defense and running game won a superbowl... he just happened to be the guy handing the ball off

I dont like the guy at all, but this post is nonsense.

Simms set a record by completing 22 of 25 passes, including 10 in a row in the second half. He passed for 268 yards and three touchdowns.

10 passes in a row doesn't mean you can speak in coherent, complete sentences.

The guy on the radio broadcast said Paul was in the rigor mortis position.

Yeesh, can we be a little more dramatic

I don't know who just said it, but listening to the Yankees game from the room over now, color commentator working with Michael Kay right now:

"Just because a guy wins the triple crown shouldn't automatically make him MVP."

Ray Lewis, MNF postgame: "What the Patriots what-int able to do was not stop Kansas City in no form."

That is verbatim, right from the DVR.

Brad Nessler: "You'll know in a second if they pick up this first down by the reaction of the crowd."

OR, you could just, you know.... watch the play.

some moron last week made a reference to "wilt chamberlain walking onto the court at madison square garden" when a player came back from injury...wish I could remember which game it was from.
