Sports card grading? (1 Viewer)

I collected cards in the 1970s - 1990s and now want to get a few graded. What is the best way/company to get cards graded in 2022?

Any information is appreciated.

PSA, SGC for vintage cards and Beckett for newer cards, the big question is why you want them graded. Unless they grade out at an 8 or higher it's typically not worth it to get them graded.

Thanks. I have a few Lebron  and Jeter rookies, isn’t it good to get them graded so the value possibly increases?

According to this site, the Lebron card can increase greatly if graded 9+. https://www.sportscardspro.com/game/basketball-cards-2003-topps/lebron-james-221

Is the issue that so few cards will grade that high?

Appreciate any info.

Depending on the card,  a 9+ is generally tough to come by.  The cards really have to be in perfect shape to even get an 8 or above.  I'd watch some youtube videos or look at other PSA submissions to get a handle on the grading and decide if your cards are up to par.  You could also take them into a local dealer and get their advice or post some photos here.    I decided against it after considering the cost and considerable wait time (a year or so for standard grading).

A year? Wow

Yeah, it got crazy during Covid.  Not sure about the times lately but imagine it's still quite a wait.  You can always expedite it but the cost involved normally isn't worth it.

edit: just looked into it and seems like they're at about 2-3 months for normal submission.  I'll defer to someone else who is currently submitting their cards though.

The grading timeline and cost is crazy, not sure why they can’t do cheaper/faster.  I’m personally not grading cards because of it, seems like a lost business opportunity.

PSA tends to control the "population reports" by giving out poor grades to help keep certain card values up.

I like SGC, good process and sells for like 90% of a BGS, it's easy to do, and the timeline is quick.
