Sports Memorabilia Collection? (1 Viewer)

So I have started / decided to collect autographed replica helmets (started with Odell Beckham and have a Russell Wilson in the mail). I'll eventually end up with one from each team. 8 display cases will hold 32 helmets - sorted by division eventually.

After searching for the best display options (and after building a decent looking wooden box to try as a prototype) I saw this cabinet at Ikea and researched it online. A lot of people use them for displaying any kind of collection (action figures, diecast cars ect..)

I went and picked up two of these and some LED strip lighting for a decent price (65 for the cabinet, 20 for lighting and picked up a cord concealer at home depot for all the wires).

Here is a picture:

Do any of you have collections? What are they of and how do you display them?

Kyle

I can sell you two helmets to help with your collection.

1 = Frank Winters and Mark Chumura on a mini Packers helmet.

2 = Mark Tauscher on a Wisconsin Badgers helmet.

I paid $400 for each of them a few years back. You can have them for $400 total. 50% savings for you.

Just looking for replicas which are the size of the beckham helmet on the top shelf.

will also be specific to the player, so will likely go after an aaron rodgers or brett favre for the packers.

thanks for the offer though!

I have 6-7 framed signed jerseys hanging in my basement. A bat rack with 5 signed bats and a bunch of signed balls. I also have a few signed pics in my office.

I would recommend just buying the helmets. There is a good chance some of them are going to be fake, and who cares about an autograph if you didn't personally get it signed?

$400 for each? Really? Hard to believe they would sell for that much. We're not talking Favre or Rodgers here.

I started doing this but when financial times hit hard, I had to stop. Other than eBay, where is a good place to buy mini-helmets with or without signatures?

I'm kinda like BSS, I have tons of signed autographed stuff from almost every decade of football. I have cards, collector plates, collector whiskey flask, collector portraits of Walter Payton, Manning, Emmit Smith, Joe Montana, ect. After years of collecting and probably and spending conservatively 10,000 dollars on my stuff..... I am stuck with it. No one will give you what you have paid for it. Most of my stuff is autographed and has COA's. But the moment I post it on Ebay or anywhere else, all i get is a bunch of tight wad, know nothing about the memorabilia business hacks, who will only give me 1/10 of what I know my stuff is worth. Take my word for it, collect the stuff you want and don't worry about how much it will be worth in 5 years. I can tell right now how much it's worth.......1/10 of what you paid for it.

I hear what your saying -

For me its getting a collection, displaying it and building a talking piece and room. I know i'm not going to make money off of it - and im not collecting to resell. Where and how do you display it, Defenze?

:goodposting:

As a card collector for the past 25+ years I can't tell you how much this is true. I have two big rooms of cards, sports action figures and memorabilia--some are worth a lot, some worth nothing. I have my main card room set up like a card store with display cases and the walls have the hooks like you would see in a store with all my figures displayed. I can't even tell you how much I have spent (and probably don't even want to think about it), but find something that you like and go for it. Important: don't even look at a price guides once you own it--you will just be disappointed when the card that lists on Beckett at $125.00 is actually available on EBAY for $15.00.

If you are into mini-helmets look at Leaf. They are usually pretty affordable. What is kind of cool about them is you can buy them out of the box (so you know what you are getting) or you can just buy a boxed helmet and are surprised with what you open (sort of like a pack of cards). They also do jerseys just like that.

And, you can have both of them for $400. Two helmets for the cost of one.

I used to collect, but it's been at least 15 years since I bought my last item. I have approx 20 mini helmets that are unsigned and without boxes. If there are certain team(s) your looking for let me know. These are the older version mini helmets where the facemask looks like a normal helmet. Part of the reason I stopped collecting is they move to the thicker facemask and it didn't match the rest of my collection.

The Jags helmet has the prototype logo (tells you how long ago I got it) Also, the buccaneers helmet is the creamsicle color.

most of my signed mini helmets are from going onto NFL.com and signing up for the credit card, once you hit the limit (80 bucks) to get the gift, I paid it off, cancelled it and got the free mini.

I have no intention of selling anything, I had my basement finished and I wanted as much schwag as possible on my walls/behind my bar etc.

I have alot of beer mirrors and other stuff as well
