I suppose the reason for this thread is to discuss the prospects going forward for the St. Louis offense. Not living in the area and being too broke to get all of the games I've bot been able to actually see many of the offensive plays, reducing my analysis to stats and highlights, which we all know is not ideal. I'll give my take, but I'd really love to hear some counter-analysis from homers or those who've seen the plays. Also, anyone with a good grasp on Linehan's tendencies would be helpful.
Bulger - His completion percentage is pretty bad, especially for a guy who is considered one of the league's most accurate passers. His performance is also disconcerting when you consider taht he has a great WR corps and a very strong RB. Thus far I am writing off his performance to not being comfortable with the new offense. What I don't know is, can we expect a significant improvement, and if so then when?
Jackson - His stats look awesome, at least from a yardage standpoint and he's not losing significant carries to Davis. Davis does not appear to be vulturing goal line carries. He does not seem bothered by the foot. It would seem that Jackson would be seen as a current top 5 RB if he had gotten into the endzone. I would think his performance will actually improve should Bulger find his rhythm.
Holt - Not looking great, but this is obviously due to the Bulger situation. One thing I'm not privy to, is Holt actually getting seperation? He's one of the best route runners out there, but perhaps he's not comfortable with the plays yet.
Bruce - I keep thinking his game is going to drop off and he keeps hanging on like the professional that he is. He may not be lighting up the world, but his yardage is good and he looks to be a decent WR3 and perhaps a marginal WR2 in very deep leagues. I would think that this is his floor and that his numbers might actually jump 15-20% if the overall offense improves.
StL Defense - This unit seems improved. Personally I don't trust them to start for one of my teams, I do think that they are having an effect on the offense. I originally thought that a good 20-25% of Bulger and Holt's value would come from lots of second half passing because they were behind (due to poor defense). This situation is not developing as I had thought it would, which is good for the NFL Rams but bad for fantasy (I'm sure that they feel very bad about this
). Still, does the defense maintain this start, or do you see them fading?
Going forward I think we're seeing the floor for Jackson and Bruce. They could really shine if Bulger and Holt get it together. I am also thinking that this is the floor for Bulger and Holt. What is their ceiling, and more importantly, will they put it together this year? How soon? Do the preseason projections for this offense still hold?
