St Louis Rams reportedly have bought Mark Sanchez... (1 Viewer)

Three things:

1) If it's true and they don't want him, a $1000 investment (gotta be first class right?) to get other teams to trade up is wise.

2) If it's true and they do want him, are the Rams really worried about the last-minute fare hike that they needed to pull the trigger a day early?

3) Rams ownership doesn't at least timeshare their own jet?

This is brilliant as a smoke screen. They are reportedly 50-50 between Smith and Monroe and the Seahawks are reportedly interested in Sanchez. If they can get the Seahawks to trade up for Sanchez, they get the remaining OT at a much lower cost, plus a pick.

I don't know if it is a smokescreen, or if it will work, but I give them full credit for being clever in this case.

Edited to add, they probably needed to buy a ticket from New York to St Louis anyway. I wonder if they can change the name on the ticket with a small change fee.

Pro Football Talk:

Rams Could Be In Hot Water Over Plane Fare

In response to the story that the Rams have bought a plane ticket for USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, a league source tells us that the Rams might eventually be making an even larger donation in the form of cash or future draft picks.

“If the Rams purchased a ticket for Sanchez they are breaking rules,” a league source told us tonight. “They can do no such thing until they are on the clock. I would think the Commish would get a little testy over that.”

It’s possible that the Rams didn’t buy a ticket, and that they floated the story to Steve Wyche of NFL.com in order to advance a ruse aimed at getting Redskins owner Daniel Snyder to offer St. Louis a boatload of picks or players to move up to No. 2.

But if they went the extra step and actually purchased the ticket — even if they aren’t really interested in Sanchez — they could be in trouble.

We still think the Rams don’t want Sanchez, primarily because they have bigger needs. And they have Marc Bulger.

Though we wouldn’t be completely surprised by a decision from the Rams to draft Sanchez and trade Bulger, the Rams don’t need to take a bonus acceleration to help get to the salary floor; they currently have only $10 million in cap space, which puts them above the 2009 spending minimum.

bernie miklazs is well connected, & says the pick will probably be jason smith (surprise, surprise)...

he predicted chris long last year, & claims to be more confident about this prediction...

Chill out. They're desperately trying to trade down.
Sanchez might be the Golden Ticket for some low picker to get a few extra picks. I've been hoping that the news about Seattle's interest in Sanchez was for the same purpose. I'd love the Rams to take Sanchez though and save one of those big boys for Seattle.

Why, if the league has already approved St. Louis negotiating a contract once Stafford signed his, would the Rams get in trouble for buying a plane ticket? Seems they could claim it's part of their negotiation. I don't understand why the league would care.

No possible way, none whatsoever, Seattle trades up for Sanchez. I think Seattle's "interest" is the same ploy as the Rams' interest and that's to hook someone like the Skins or Broncos to jump up for Sanchez.

Totally agree. Sanchez is the most over hyped player I've seen in awhile in comparison to what he started out as. I cannot believe anyone would take this guy top 10 but all the chatter HAS to be related to scarcity but teams like the skins (who are crazy to think sanchez is gonna be ready to compete now) or even the Broncos. Both have more solid QBs than what Sanchez would offer for the next 2-3 years. I just dont understand this but I could be TOTALLY WRONG.. though i hate to say Trent Dilfer doesnt sell me on this guy being a "cant miss" player. He started 16 games in his college career and didnt play well on the road.Like I stated before.. Sanchez hit the lotto it appears if he goes in the top 10. Yea, he's a good talker and nice guy it seems but that doesnt win games or read coverages. Good luck to any team that bites and trades up to get him.

Ruskell is just the sort of man dumb enough to fall for it. You emember the Hutchinson gaffe dont you? How about giving up a first for Branch? Im real nervous right now.Im hoping for one of these:Smith MonroeCurryCrabTrade down and take Wells/MorenoKnowing Ruskell we probably end up with Sanchez

I do hope the Rams are able to move down, but if they don't, I'm finally sold on the Rams taking OT Jason Smith at #2. He's an athletic and gifted athlete for a LT and he's got a very high motor. I heard him on one of St. Louis' local sports stations yesterday and he came off to me as a motivated guy who could really endear himself to St. Louis fans.

If he is a flop in the NFL, it won't be because of a lack of effort. I like the guy and I hope he's the Rams choice at #2 over Monroe and Curry.

If the Rams didn't have the possibility of getting a Lauranitis with their 2nd rounder, I might still be hyping Curry.
