Staff vs the Message Board (1 Viewer)

I love to go Stud TE's. It is the one position that has the biggest difference between the #1 and the #12. I plan on buying a combo of Gates, Shockey and/or Witten. Be prepared to see the prices go high on these guys... maybe $20 for each if bidding gets that high.

My other concerns are WR's. Watch me walk out with Steve Smith and Chad Johnson. Remember, price does not matter to me. $30 for each is a steal. I love auctions.

I this file is too large or the download is too complicated, e-mail me atjdoggydogg@hotmail.com

and I will e-mail a smaller MP3 file to you.

Do we have a board yet to discuss things? We know the Mods/Staff have secret boards so do we have ours yet? The auction team needs to discuss things.
I am setting up a Google Board tonight for the message board. If y'all can PM or e-mail me at jdoggydogg@hotmail.com

I can invite you to the private forum.

Never fear guys, I'm heading up to Chicago in a couple of hours to spy on Rudnicki and pick up the Staff auction strategy. I'll report back Sunday night.

With all of us employing this plan, Gates might hit $60

Would it be possible to know why a person got selected?. That way those of us who were not would know what to work on for next year.
We selected people based on these factors:

1. FF skill displayed

2. Writing ability

3. Message Board presence/knowledge

4. Strength of application
Keep building up your resume on all these factors, and I'm sure you'll be in the mix of things soon enough.

I have to say...it's a huge disadvantage for Dodds to compete in the auction format with his projections posted on the homepage.
Excellent point. How does this change your strategy David?
I'll give you Dodds atrategy.Bid up the stud RBs early to burn up messageboard cap space. You guys need to hold firm on the values here and stick DD with one of these over priced studs as it will kill his overall strategy. Bid quick and then stop bidding. He'll be watching bid times to decide when to bail. He prefers to build his teams with several RB2s at discounts when cap space for the other teams is gone and load up on WRs. Manning will probably go for something stupid like $35 and DD will try to get a combo of Green, Delhomme, and McNair for a total of $10.
:goodposting:
I agree but isn't this auction strategy 101? Pretty much what I try to do and it usually works. Or is it? ;)
Maybe auction strategy 101, but at least 2/3 of the staff/messageboarders two years ago couldn't seem to figure it out. I remember going into the season with 4 starting RBs and something like 5 WR1s (on their respective NFL team).

Thanks for the nod.

How is this FFTOC going to work? Everyone is going to make his picks offline and then just send me a list of all the rosters for commentary? Am I basically just to survey each team and determine who made good buys and bad? there's not a ton to talk about in terms of strategy, as it isn't a "draft" in the purest sense of the word.

Good point. I would think most of the commentary will be "hindsight" discussion, unless the group is given a deadline to set their lineups in advance, but I doubt they go that route. Other discussion topics could include - Tracking who has who left to use, using your big dogs early, etc.

....why Diesel is 200 points ahead of the nearest staff member, etc. :D Seriously though, I would think that the commentary for this type of format would be tracking effectively each team is using its selections at each position, who is burning studs early, who is using the fragile guys early, etc

Wouldn't that potentially help the Staffers? I mean, ultimately it would help everyone, but there has to be an assumption here that the reviewers are pro message board guys (or are they supposed to be neutral). By looking at these angles and reporting on them, you would essentially be doing the leg work that those who are participating should be doing to get a leg up on everyone else. You essentially help the lazy guys who would not do this leg work otherwise, but now they would still have access to pertinent information that may be very useful as the contest progresses. Does that make sense? (I say lazy, but I meant relatively speaking. There are probably no lazy guys in this bunch!)

The commentary for the FFTOC will be right at the halfway point (week 8). It will assign grades based on pts already put up, bench strength still available, etc.The discussion points for the participants will be a running log, but will not be published until the mid-point as well.

This I think will be a happy compromise allowing teams to have a strategy without exposing it early. And giving readers insight that could possibly help their own FFTOC teams over the final weeks.

ie.

Team 6

Week 1 - I like to start veterans over 30 years old early (especially with injury histories). For this reason I got Fred Taylor and Curtis Martin in the lineup this week. They both have better games matchups after week 7, but I am not sure I can count on them to last that long. At QB, Byron Leftwich has an exceptional matchup that allows me to preserve my studs until a time that I know they are in a groove. With Braylon Edwards still out, I opted to get Joe J in the lineup this week too (injury history, older). At TE I thought the matchup of LJ Smith would provide the most points.

Commentary Team 6 - The concepts of using older players early was solid, but this team suffered with bad performances. Overall, they have used more studs than normal, but do not have good utilization numbers. This team has a huge uphill battle if they are going to end up as one of the top teams.

Points XXXX (6th)

Utilization Ratio XXX (11th)

Studs left XXXX (12th)

Overall Grade D

The reviewers for all events need to be neutral. They need to grade all the teams. There will be two reviewers for each event (one staff and one message board).

I will have detailed criteria here as we settle on dates, etc.

For the Survivor, the reviewer will look at these things for every team:

- By position, a grade based on starting and depth talent.

- Overall starting and depth grade

- Bye week coverage

- Major strengths

- Major weaknesses

- Prediction of Finish

- Value Picks

- Reaches

- What could they have done differently to have a better squad.

The auction will also look at these things, but with an emphasis on price paid too.

The drafters (auction and Survivor) will have two components to fill out:

1. A pre-draft plan that outlines what they plan to do. These will be held by your team Captain until after the draft. This is probably the most important piece for people following these things.

2. The second piece will look at your team much like the reviewer will as well as ask some specific things to gain insight on why you did certain things. If you deviated from your starting plan, you will be asked to explain the difference, etc.

3. You will also be asked to rank all the teams in your division based on where you believe the final standings will end up.

Next steps....

1. Let's lock down the dates of the first two events (survivor and auction). That way I can get detailed directions on what we are looking for in each of these areas to the right people (as I know they can attend these dates).

Glad to see everyone agrees with our selections here.

I am going to be on vacation the week of June 26th through June 30th. I would prefer to move this out to sometime after July 5th. That Thursday would be ideal. If we are not able to change it from the above week I will need to know the exact date to see if I can make it work While I am at sea island and if I will have internet access. Alas, if neither is possible I will have to hand my spot to bagger.

What's up with the goggle board? I applied for permission last nite and still no approval.

Forgot to add that besides being one of the worst drafters I've evah competed against, you weren't even bright enough to keep your nomination to 250 words or less. You DQ'ed yourself based upon your own inability to read. :lmao: Q: How bad is DonnyT at FF?

A: He didn't even get consideration for the Staff team.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Didnt even notice that. 478 words Donny? Really?

I like it - I look forward to listening to it some on headphones at work instead of quietly at home while the kids are falling asleep.

Okay, nobody balked at their assignments and nobody seemed to volunteer to shift around, so we'll go with what I posted earlier:

Auction: Capt Hook, bostonfred, ConstruxBoy, Psychology Kev, EBF, Radballs

Survivor: Legacy, abrecher, BassNBrew, Duckboy, Fullback Fro, LHUCKS

FFTOC: jdoggydogg, diesel7982, Doctor Detroit, jurb26, Spike, Tick

To the Survivors and Auctioneers, please PM me a list of the nights you'll be unavailable after 9 PM ET beginning on Wed Jun 21 and ending on July 14. I know that's a huge window, but I want to get as much info as I can right now instead of having to ask again if I don't find a fit. Do this even if you've sent your availability to me before, please. Please title the PM "Survivor Availability" or "Auction Availability" - my PM box is getting confusing, and I'm not very bright.

FFTOC, we're in no hurry. There will be discussion, and hopefully some research projects assigned, but we can relax for now.

I am looking to grow some balls before I respond....
DD...Please don't ban him until we get done brutalizing him. See Yudkin and his Anarchy league for some ball enhancement.

Doesnt make any sense to me either Clayton. I quite literally don't know who Culcasi, Grant, Pasquino, Overton, and Henderson are, and while I like Bloom and Lammey, Ive never thought of them as being the strong fantasy types. And I thought Anderson was just a Blogger; I remember working with him when we started up the Blogger a couple years ago. Didnt even realize he was staff.Maybe you're too important to commit your time elsewhere?

I never get picked for these things. I know my entry wasn't good this time, but I was absolutely snubbed during the haiku contest one.

I went to the board and signed up, but as that was just 30 minutes ago, I'm not too worried.Man, Donny is certainly a wordsmith, isn't he? I'm guessing he didn't get in because his "application" was all in screaming caps?

Its going to be fun. Im incredibly excited about a 16 week FFTOC format. Predicting week to week fantasy performance has been my game for the last 10 years, and I like to think Ive become one of the best in the industry at it. Can't wait to compete against some real talent like yourself and the other staff.EDIT: I now remember who Quincy Wilson was. Wow that was a long time ago. Can't remember what side of that debate I was on, but given I couldnt remember him I have an idea ;)

Something so small and insignificant would never make me want to find out :D Just kidding though. Even though I dont know who you are, Im sure you're more than capable of competing for 2nd place. FBG hired you for a reason :)
