Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread: Kings win 2nd Cup in 3 seasons (5 Viewers)

Also, on TSN's first intermission, Martin Biron references Corsi and Bob McKenzie quotes extraskater.com... advanced stats are going mainstream in hockey.

Uh oh. Bro Hymn in Anaheim.
lol. Was coming in to ask if that is what I heard
It's been going on for a while. Do NOT talk about Rancid and Ruby Soho in Boston in these threads; you'll get killed.

happened to me last year.

eta* But did you catch the Face To Face?

eta2* They also do Bro Hymn at Springfield Falcons (AHL) games. We all used to get a kick out of it, ironically at first, then almost genuinely. Swear I went from absolutely hating Pennywise to otherwise liking that damn song.

I just find the act itself sort of puzzling. As if the players are going to suddenly stop scrapping and say "Oh, hello person banging on the glass.... how is your day going?"

Bruins clearly couldn't use Kessel or Seguin. :topcat:

We're both homers (well, me sort of), but do you want Loui Eriksson or Seguin on your third line? And wasn't the Kessel flip for Seguin?

It might not be; I'm not the best hockey GM guy. I can watch and pick up in a minute or five, but don't follow it like some of you guys do.

Kessel and Seguin are great goal-scorers, no question about that. There's also no question that Julien's system puts just as much emphasis on play at the other end of the ice and doing the little things all over, including off the ice.

Here's a good read on Zdeno Chara from earlier this year, which addressed the situation with both.

And funny that whenever the Seguin trade is brought up, it's always in comparison with Eriksson. People forget that there were other players in that deal, and that Reilly Smith had a great season (20-31-51, +28) skating alongside Bergeron and Marchand.

WEEI seems to remind us of that every day, and I still forget. And I watch all the time, so...

YMMV, if I'm being critical. Great point, if I'm being generous.

I'm going with YMMV.

Let's beat the damn Wings before msudaisy and Dr. D. show up to give us crap.

Milbury just blasted Price. That means Aaron should have won his bet in the Olympics, clearly.

No sarc. Mibury's an...well, he's special.

It's all good. Just human nature that everyone loves players once they are gone, no matter what team or sport. My only point is that the Bruins still seem to be doing pretty well without them.

That's quite a good article link, BTW. I can't help but think that Julien had a ton to do with the Canadian nationals and their system.

I'm still stuck on Olympic hockey. Dang. That loss hurts.

Obviously the Bruins are still a very very good team, but let's not pretend Seguin isn't an absolute stud who's far superior to Eriksson+Reilly Smith.

He is, but I'm not sure it ever was going to work for him in Boston. As strange as that sounds for a guy who is so young and was in town for only three seasons. Obviously he's in a much better system to play his style of game in Dallas.

A puck possession goal scoring game is pretty universal, his stats in Dallas are quite likely better than they'd be in Boston, but I think he'd be just fine no matter what team in the league he played for. Still think trading a 21 year old stud because he likes to party is beyond idiotic; and although Boston is still succeeding brilliantly without him at the moment, I think they're gonna regret that trade for the next decade +.

Seguin 37-47 84 pts

Smith 20-31 51 pts

Eriksson 10-27 37 pts

total 30-58 88 pts

Obviously, it would have been great if Seguin got his head out his ### and was a better teammate when he was here but sometimes (and this goes in any sport) players need to be traded to reach their full potential. It sucks that the B's couldn;t have realized that but they don't seem to be any worse for wear.
