Or was holding the lightsaber just giving her visions of what happened because it was Luke's? I was confused because it also looked like she saw her own flashback of being left in Jakku.

I think Rey and Kylo are siblings, just not twins. Kylo probably went bad and killed Luke's other students before she began training. The visions were akin to Luke's visions from Empire Strikes Back.

Quick thoughts:

- Felt like a reboot and sequel, at the same time. Still don't know how I feel about that.

- We haven't had much back-story on it, but I already think Kylo's turn to the dark side is more believable than Anakin's reasons that we saw 3 movies explaining.

- Saw this with my wife and taking my boys (12 & 7) on Saturday. My 7 year-old is going to lose his #### over this movie...until Han dies. I seriously think he's going to need counseling after.

- Gwendoline Christie and Lupita Nyongo were barely even cameo parts.

- Smoak seemed too cartoony. Maybe the other movies will explain more (is he a Wizard of Oz type?)

- I managed to avoid spoilers and was convinced, because Hamill has been off the interview circuit, no action figures, etc., that he was the big bad behind Kylo

- Fisher is 14 years younger than Ford and looks like she could be his mom. Really paying for that 70-80's party lifestyle.

- Is that Admiral Ackbar, I assume? But was that Nien Nunb and Sebulba flying ships for the Resistance, or just same alien races of those characters (like mini Greedo in Ep 1?)

It was not Ackbar, wrong color, same race.

Can't say for certain on the other two but I doubt it. No idea how long either of their races live for but it seems unlikely they'd still be young enough to be "warriors" still.

He's squid-like, maybe they change color like squids can.

By the way, Solo's death really hit women and children hard. That was quite a shocking moment for most. Yeah when he went walking out on the bridge you knew it was a bad idea, but that was great cinematography. That was the biggest gut-punch so far in all the Star Wars movies.

Could have had Han say to Kylo "Son, I love you." Kylo say "I know." and then run him through with the saber.

Another clue that Rey is Luke's daughter: after being stranded, she grows up near a village where the only known puzzle piece to find Luke is being hidden? Come on. The old guy decided it was time to give the data drive to the Resistance because things had gotten so bad but maybe it was supposed to be meant for Rey...I'll have to catch the context on my second watch but didn't he seem almost guilty to be giving the info to the Resistance pilot even though he clearly thinks its the right thing to do?

Either way, its not a coincidence that Rey, a puzzle piece to Luke's location, and the Falcon were all on the same backwater planet, and within miles of each other at that.

I don't know what to think of Ren regarding exactly how strong he is. I think he's really green in some areas (i.e. lightsaber dueling) but really powerful in other (he suspended a freaking laser blast!).

I think the best explanation is that he's extremely strong with the force and has focused on some areas while neglecting (or just not very good at other). Given that he stopped that laser blast he obviously has a ton of potential but still needs training in other areas.

I don't know that there is a plan to stop making them. I think the idea is to keep them going. Not necessarily the main storylin

Yes, Ren is kind of a weakling. I need to re-watch, but he doesn't even seem like he has that much power in the First Order yet. His light saber is erratic/half-built, and he is completely out of control in his feelings.

I think the growth of Ren will be significant in the 2nd movie and probably in the third as well. In the OT, Darth Vader was at the peak of his powers in the first, and slowly got weaker as the series went on (although not discernably in the first two), Ren will likely be at his weakest now and become a total force by the third movie.

4) If Rey were Leah's child it wouldn't make as much sense for her to let Rey go with Chewey (i.e. Leah would go herself). Knowing it was Luke's daughter however make perfect sense.

5) Han offering her a job on the MF. He did the same to Luke.

Everything IMO points to Luke but it could just be a big bait and switch.

1-3 & 5. aren't strong arguments imho.

4. Leia is a General, she can't go running off with her responsibilities.

I kind of liked that they made him a whiney pipsqueak.

Remember, Anakin was the same way before turning to the dark side. Always arguing with the older Jedi about his assignments, resentful because they refused to recognize how powerful he was, etc.

It's that angst, that fear/anger/hatred/frustration that turns these guys to the dark side.

Agree that 2 & 5 normally wouldn't mean that much but SW is all about symbolism and continuity. General or not I would think Leia could find time to make a trip to find her long lost brother.

I think #1 and #5 are pretty strong indications (esp #1). Why else would there be such a connection with Luke's lighsaber?

Regardless, as I mentioned, even though I think they are guiding us along this path I wouldn't be surprised if it were a bait and switch.

I also think that the old guy at the beginning was Sifo Dias. The Jedi who left the order and contracted to make the clones. This was him rectifying that.

He was said to be a historian, right? Ren stated they had most of the map to the first jedi temple (not a map "to Luke" but a map to where he was rumored to have searched for and gone to) from when the Empire took over the Jedi Archives. Maybe Sifo Dias deleted this part of the map just like he did Kamino . . . .

These two things would also mean that the prequels are not just totally useless.

I really like the idea of him being Yoda-sized. That would be hilarious although half the fanbase would probably riot for some reason. If you wonder why the movie was a bit safe, it's because many of the fans are such huge superdorks and if you take major chances, you run the risk of nerd riots.

Yes, this. Showing his ability to stop a laser blast in mid-air, hold it there while he did other business, then release it at his leisure was Abrams' way to show this guy has some powerful force skills. That's a stark contrast to all of the Jedi who got gunned down under Order 66 in ROTS. Force grabbing his general, pulling him across the room into his grip was another way Abrams showed this. So was his force suspension of Rey. So was his mind manipulation of the pilot. He is powerful...

...and reckless. And immature. He's not polished *at all* in his mastery of the dark side, yet so desperately wants to be. If the sith were Corleones, he'd be their Fredo ("I can handle things! I'm smart! Not like everybody says... like dumb... I'm smart and I want respect!"). His general has obvious contempt for him as he thinks Ren isn't fit for leadership, but keeps his mouth shut since Ren is batfeces crazy and Snoke obviously has plans for Ren.

That Ren isn't a master at dueling may simply be that he hasn't undergone a lot of lightsaber training, which we know is part of Jedi training. That he couldn't overcome Rey's force grab of Luke's lightsaber I think speaks more to Rey's untapped power than Ren's weakness in the force. This is another reason I think Rey is Luke's daughter...she may end up the most powerful Jedi ever.

My theory on how Kylo was turned to the dark side: Snope sent him dark visions/ dreams (like Vader had before his turn). His visions were of his grandfather, Vader, espousing on Kylo's destiny to rule the universe and assert order as Vader failed to do. enough of that on an impressionable, likely unbalanced kid...

Seemed to me that at least Han knew who Rey is, at the table with Maz she asks him "so Han who is the girl?" And they switch the scene and you don't hear his answer. I think someone else was asked as well with no answer. So I think they know, we just haven't been told.

Thing is, I have to believe Han knew who she was as not long after meeting up with her, he says he's thinking about offering her a job. Why do that so quickly unless he knows who she is?

She fixed the Falcon and knew the controls better than Han. Why wouldn't he offer her a job?

Please explain how Han and Leia's son turns to the Dark Side. I'll wait...

Wait for what? He was seduced by the dark side just like his grandfather. If you're asking this question here then you have to ask the same question with Vader. It's kind of a well established and major plot line that an individual can be turned to the dark side. If you don't buy into this there's really no sense watching any of the Star Wars movies.

Vader was ripped away from his mother by the Jedi, who left her to remain a slave. She was later tortured to death in front of his eyes. He had a great reason to hate the Jedi.

What is Rylo's excuse?

Anakin was not ripped away. While he was said leaving his mother he was more than happy to be off that planet and no longer be a slave. The Jedi treated him well and his best friend was Obi Wan.We don't know the backstory on Kylo yet.

What was he, 9? It wasn't until later that he realized the Jedi were ####ing ###holes.

You know when he thought they were ####ing ###holes? After Sidious got in his head which is exactly the point.He had no issues (he wasn't ripped) going with them when he was younger as you claimed. He was turned by Sidious and then, and only then, did he have a problem with the Jedi. Is this really that hard to understand?

Is it that hard to understand that Sidious was right and that Anakin was brainwashed by a cult who didn't give a damn about his mother? This same cult thought nothing of using human clones as slaves to fight in their army.
