Given that the sequel to Independence Day has already been made, I don't really get what you mean. The success of TFA is why we get sequels to movies like Independence Day. Sad.
Well it only took 20 years for a sequel to ID4. I don't think that's the best example. The success of TFA is why we get sequels to movies like Independence Day. Sad.

And we get trolls who say they dislike a movie, not once, but hundreds of times throughout a particular thread. Why do they love talking about stuff they dislike? Not unlike the people who do this, it's so weird. The success of TFA is why we get sequels to movies like Independence Day. Sad.

Is it trolling to come here and say I've seen it multiple times and loved it? Might offend people who were disappointed. This is what I meant to post. Never was in to straight fantasy which makes me loving game of thrones surprising.Lotr was boring to me. I can't say if it was bad or not because I slept through half of the first one and never watched any of the others again.

It amazed many that they could turn the 300 page hobbit into three movies. That stuff aside, helms deep is an amazing cinematic display. The best action in any of these films. There's just no magic in those films for me. Probably because I could never finish the books cause if you think the movies are just about walking, just try to read the books. Oh and if you can get giant birds to fly you out to halfway home, maybe use them to fly there instead.
The reason TFA is successful is the same reason sequels are made for almost any high grossing film, but TFA itself has nothing to do with other sequels. Godfather and the original trilogy helped create the practice. Plus that the desire to make money exceeds new ideas. The success of TFA is why we get sequels to movies like Independence Day. Sad.
The very rough rule of thumb in Hollywood is 50% of the gross revenue is profit.I'm thinking it might since I don't believe it has even opened in China yet.. amazing to think Disney might get back it's investment in one movieAlso much better than Freddie Got Fingered and the Ernest film saga.Easily one of the best theatrical experiences I've ever had. Saw it at a local LFX/Atmos screening. I may go back to see it in 3D - how was it for anybody that saw it in that format?
In terms of direction, story, inspired casting (new leads, including the villain, were outstanding, phenomenal), acting, character development, production design, CGI, blending of old and new elements, resonance with the original story (without overdoing it or being too redundant), Jar Jar Binksless-ness, this checked all the boxes.
Based on near universal stellar reviews, my expectations were extremely high. This exceeded them. I can't think of a single thing I didn't like about it. However long it was (?), absolutely no sensation of time (masterful pacing), a transporting experience.

Much better than 8 Heads In A Duffel Bag.
Force Awakens has only been out like two weeks, and is already closing in on $1.5 billion, halfway to the unprecedented $3 billion mark.

* Could it get to $4 billion? Dunno, but a positive indicator that it will shatter the old records is a lot of people noting multi-viewings (in some cases, 3-4 X already!!!). That is obviously one of the keys needed to gun down Avatar like so many previous hapless death stars - also, a high percentage of the overall box office sales enjoying premium ticket prices commanded by 3D and IMAX-type screenings.

Hunger Games did it also - just trying to milk one last film out of a closed-ended trilogy. The reason TFA is successful is the same reason sequels are made for almost any high grossing film, but TFA itself has nothing to do with other sequels. Sequels don't really bother me but I friggin' hate that many series end with the last film broken into two movies. Harry Potter did it will but most do not.
Enjoy the books much more than the show. Especially this last seasonI'm sure the nudity and violence helps. This is what I meant to post. I was talking about overall profit.. Current run in the theater, DVD sales, merchandise, etc.. People confuse the published movie revenue with movie profits as they are not equivalent.
They're getting most of their immediate investment back through merchandising. Merchandise sales are expected to hit $5 billion in the next 12 months. They don't get all of the profits, but it's a real nice chunk of change to take off the purchase price. It's already looking like Lucas sold low.Yes I know, that was my point. If you can't dominate the galaxy with a fleet of Super Star Destroyers then it's time to start looking for a new career. So if you're trying to dominate the galaxy and you have technology to build a death star why wouldn't you? Gotta have something, simple military domination doesn't seem to work. Occupying a galaxy so there isn't perpetual civil war seems pretty difficult in the Star Wars universe.
Death Stars are incredibly expensive. In the old EU it was argued that the financial burden of building the Death Stars contributed as much or more to the downfall of the empire as the death of the emperorSo if you're trying to dominate the galaxy and you have technology to build a death star why wouldn't you? we won't know until 8 or 9 but there has been plenty of speculation on this topic through out this thread and online that she had already received some training before being left on the planet and having her memory suppressed after Luke lost Kylo to the dark side.Seriously, like, did Rey see the first movie? The way she did the Jedi mind trick was so lame... she just decided to try that? Cmon.
She should've tried it on the junker guy that was jipping her on the salvaged parts.we won't know until 8 or 9 but there has been plenty of speculation on this topic through out this thread and online that she had already received some training before being left on the planet and having her memory suppressed after Luke lost Kylo to the dark side.Seriously, like, did Rey see the first movie? Weren't those flashbacks to when she was like 4 years old? How much training could she have gotten back when she was but a wee "youngling"?we won't know until 8 or 9 but there has been plenty of speculation on this topic through out this thread and online that she had already received some training before being left on the planet and having her memory suppressed after Luke lost Kylo to the dark side.Seriously, like, did Rey see the first movie? yes, it was the first we saw of it and it came after she had the "awakening" from touching Luke's lightsaber. That was the first time she overtly used the force right?we won't know until 8 or 9 but there has been plenty of speculation on this topic through out this thread and online that she had already received some training before being left on the planet and having her memory suppressed after Luke lost Kylo to the dark side.Seriously, like, did Rey see the first movie? See, that's total crap to me. It wasn't even in a moment of immediate danger where she might accidentally use the force instinctively. huh? Right before kylo ren tried to extract information from her and he couldn't do it. Instead she read his mind and knew he was scared of not being as strong as darth Vader.
