Starting my D against my QB (1 Viewer)

Of course, my Ds are rotten and I will cut one (I'm carrying three right now-Minnesota is on bye & Buff vs. Detroit) but I'm starting Miami D against Pennington.

In theory, if one does well, the other does badly. But it's like I'm playing not to lose rather than playing to win.

Kind of like letting your wife put redbug medication on your best friend.

If your quarterback turns the ball over, then your defense regains the points. If your QB lights it up and doesn't turn it over, your defense gets lit up.

Or, your QB could throw for 300 2 3 while being sacked 7 times in a 34-14 loss. That would not be so bad.

In general though, this is definitely worth doing if you're a heavy favorite. If you expect a close game, you might want to switch it up.

I started Kitna and Minnesota against each other a week ago. Huard would have been better (Big league where, yes I'm hurting for QBs), but I got more than expected from the combination.

Just start the players at each position you think have the best chance to score well and then let the chips fall.

QBs and Defenses are going to have the same game whether you put them in or not. You're still best off playing your best option at each position. If it happens that your D goes up against another guy, so be it. Play your best matchups.
