Starting NFL QBs in 2007 (1 Viewer)

Jeff Pasquino

Footballguy
So one of the common complaints in leagues where you start 2 QBs is that there aren't enough starting QBs.

I've seen the last 2 seasons that at least 50 QBs started one NFL game, but in an effort to do better than that I'm going to track this.

Feel free to care about it or not.

I think this kind of analysis is only useful if you show how active QBs run week to week and produce a model that shows that 12 teams could realistically carry the right QBs on their roster such that each team could start 2 every week of the season.

Hi code,I agree with you, but let's collect the data first now, ok? That's what this is for.-JP

Great list. Thanks Jeff.

12 team, 2 QB league right here so far everyone has started a full lineup although it gets tricky and you have to be open to trades. 1QB league guys have trouble adjusting to the notion that QBs actually have equal value to RBs.

QB moves of note this week....

Cleo Lemon and Vinny Testatverde join the party as starters.

Sage Rosenfels and Tim Rattay got in on the act and made appearances. Kerry Collins returned.

Apparently more intrigue to follow with Leftwich and Arizona.

By my count, one new starter on the season (Vinny) and 2 extra appearances (Sage, Rattay).

This is certain to change after this week. We could be on a record pace.

Here are the teams that have had only one unique starter this year....

Cincinnati - Carson Palmer

Dallas - Tony Romo

Denver - Jay Cutler

Detroit - Jon Kitna

Green Bay - Brett Favre

Indianapolis - Peyton Manning

Troy Smith will make 61 starters when he starts this week vs. Seattle.

Quarterbacking in this league is a mess.Guess thats why you always take a chance on one in the top of the draft.
Honestly don't know what the record is, but we could have over 64 QB starters this season, >2 per team on average.Plus only 12 teams are "stable" with 1 guy.
one team for sure - Detroit should be looking at Orlovsky or Osullivan instead of trotting Kitna out there too. But they have morons running the show

Correct. Russell may also start.I'm curious if there's a scenario where Cleveland's last game is meaningless and Quinn gets a game.....

Interesting that 8 of the 12 will make the playoffs, with the Saints possibly sneaking in for 9.

Looks like I was right - probably a record on Sunday with Russell, Batch and Weinke.
Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports that potentially 64 different starting quarterbacks will be employed by NFL teams during the 2007 season. The number is the most in a non-strike season since the NFL implemented a 16-game schedule in 1978.
