Starting RB in Hou? (1 Viewer)

Gado looked better last week. Kubiak is a Shanny disiple so it could change week to week.
From everything said this week Lundy looks to be the starter with Gado as the 2nd back. But the assessment about this being a totally screwing situation, is pretty accurate. Unless you are in league with a ton of starting spots or have serious issues I would stay far away.

Does anyone not see the difference between the two?

Lundy is smallish 3rd down type of running back. That type is especially good when a team is losing. He's not the type of RB that wears a team down while protecting the lead. Houston's offense isnt good at that even with a big back. They really suck at it with a small back like Lundy or DD.

Gado isnt particuliarly good or bad at anything. However he has more ability to pound away at a defense than Lundy does.

Why did Barlow get so many carries last week?

Why did Gado get so many carries last week?

We see this ALL THE TIME on different teams year after year. Gado simply got the call last week in the second half because Houston was winning and trying to protect their lead against a good team. Lundy was the guy in the first half. Lundy didnt lose his job last week. Neither did Washington. The Texans and Jets just understood that the bigger back was the more effective option in each of those game situations.

This wasn't the first game the Texans have won all year, yet Gado got almost twice the carries he had in any other game. Just putting the pieces together...Lundy ineffective, Gado comes in and is effective, Gado fumbles and is pulled back out, Lundy still ineffective, Gado back in.Certainly looked like they were playing the hot hand, not just switching running styles.

Nice theory, but not accuarate. Lundy got his job back by being the "hot hand" a few weks back for Ron Dayne in the 2nd half of a game. Gado was in a similair situtation against the Jags this week, but there is no indication that a job change is about to happen. Over the pass several weeks, at various points Kubiak has stated that he will ride the "hot hand" in a particular game whether it be Lundy, Gado or Dayne. BTW, if you think Lundy is a third down back you have not watch him play. He looks very much like a rookie in pass protection and his hands have been inconsistent. If my memory of the game is correct, Lundy was taken out on more obvious passing down even when was "primary" ball carrier.

Well, David Dodds has Gado projected to get 13 carries, Lundy 8 this week.

Any chance he could come in here and explain the logic behind this?

Take the following however you will.

Open locker room quotes

November 16, 2006

HoustonTexans.com

Head coach Gary Kubiak and players spoke to the media after practice and during open locker room on Thursday.

(on RB Wali Lundy)

“He’s just growing up. I think a little bit in a lot of ways after being back now for four or five weeks. He got beat up again. When you play Jacksonville they’ll beat on backs pretty good. He’s not making mistakes he’s doing the right things. (We’re) trying to freshen him up. Samkon (Gado) playing well the other day helps take a little load off of him. I just expect him to continue to get better because I think he’s at the point now where it’s not a grind for him mentally to get ready to play. I think that’s easy and he knows what he’s doing. Now it’s just physically getting his body ready week in and week out.”

I just pulled off a trade giving Lundy and Gabriel for Boldin. I'm hoping that Lundy keeps the job so I still have credibility with the other teams for future trades :)
