Starting WR over backup RBs (1 Viewer)

How many of you draft your 2WR over a back-up (not flex but bench) RB?

Early mid-rounds say an Ocho Cinco as your WR2 over a Thomas Jones RB3.

(reference players only... not literally asking OCHO or TJ).

I've been consistently getting 2 WRs before my 3rd RB in mocks...usually either if a Boldin/Bowe slips to me late 3rd or I go RB in the 3rd and follow up with TO or Braylon in the 4th.

I like the value at RB in the 5th and 6th enough to risk it.

Depends on how many teams picking I guess, but I got screwed at WR last year, so I've made that a priority this year. I'd go for a quality WR2. Lot's of RB's later with good value.... J. Lewis, Ray Rice, J. Stewart, Ward, Felix Jones, maybe Addai.

I always draft whoever is a better value, regardless of need. My opinion is that, if I really think this RB3 is going to be better than this WR2 this year, then I draft the RB3 and after a couple of weeks I trade him for that WR2 plus a little extra. It helps that all of my leagues are long-running affairs, so I've established a reputation as a fair and willing trader and have developed strong trading relationships with at least 2-3 people in each of them. In a no-trade league (either a league with rules against trading, or a league where no one trades), it's important to address your starters before acquiring too much quality depth. Of course, I usually consider my RB3 to be the equivalent of a starter, because how often do two RBs make it through an entire season without getting injured? So once again, it's a question of best player available.

Without trying to sound too critical...this was a horrible question!

League lineups and parameters may have a huge impact on the answer for one. For another, I don't personally know of many leagues where guys are drafting bench players while they stil only have 1 WR rostered.

In a league that starts 2 RBs and 3 WRs I prefer to have two wideouts before I take a backup RB. If my league only started 2 wideouts like we did pre-1995 I think my analysis would change.

While I agree with it being a silly question, given the variety of leagues and scoring, RB/RB/RB is still a strategy a lot of people still believe in, which translates into a bench player being drafted with 0WRs rostered. It's done, and it makes sense for some leagues.

This.I don't agree with this practice, but it still happens in a HOST of leagues. In regard to the orignal post.....in the proper scoring format/starting lineup I may take my third WR before I take my first RB.

why do most leagues only start 2 RBs? My league starts 3 and it makes things a lot more interesting..draftwise and getting much deeper into the RB player pool.

because there are a lot fewer starting RBs than WRs. but we can start 3 RBs too and you think the guy who hoards RBs and/or starts 3 dominates the league? think again. go ahead, draft RBs who will be lucky to see 5 carries a game while I settle for go-to WRs. good luck w/that

The answer for me is it depends

If my #1 WR is a guy ranked in the top 3 of WR's and the 3rd RB is a top 24 RB then probably

If my #1 WR is a guy ranked 10-12 then probably not
