The undefeated Patriots have been putting up the numbers all season on offense, but the Steelers’ defense remains confident heading into Sunday’s game at New England.
No one is more confident than safety Anthony Smith.
“We got our swagger back on defense and we’re playing great ball,” Smith said Wednesday. “And they’re playing great on the offensive side, too. I think we got a real good chance of winning the game and we will win the game.”
Smith was asked if that amounted to a guarantee.
“Yeah, we’re gonna win the game,” Smith said.
Smith also characterized the Cincinnati Bengals’ receivers as superior to New England’s trio of Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Donte Stallworth.
“They got good receivers, but I think we faced great receivers last week that we shut down,” Smith said. “I don’t think it gets much better than Cincinnati’s core of receivers. We’ve already seen the best. They got the best receiving corps in the game with (T.J.) Houshmandzadeh, Chad and (Chris) Henry.”
As for the physical nature of Monday night’s New England-Baltimore game, “They said Baltimore was their most physical game, but I think we’re more physical than Baltimore,” Smith said.
