Steelers in 2006 or Patriots in 2007 (1 Viewer)

Pat Patriot

Footballguy
The Steelers went on the road as a wildcard team and won at Cincy, at Indy and at Denver to get to the SB. Very impressive run.

The Patriots have beaten the Jets at home, at Chargers (unbeaten at home), and will most likely win at Indy (also unbeaten at home).

If the Pats complete this run to get to the SB, which is a more impressive run?

I don't know. The game with Indy has yet to occur. If you really felt confident that the Pats would win you'd wait until after the fact.

Sorry PP, as a Patriots fan, I think I would have to say the Steelers. Many didn't think the Steelers would get past Cincy (although the Palmer injury probably played into this win). Everyone felt that the Colts were the team to win it all last year, and Denver was tough (took out the Patriots). Also, all three wins by the Steelers was on the road. The Jets were good, but they were not of the caliber of those three team last year. The San Diego win is definitely bigger than the three matchups I mention for the Steelers from last year. Many felt that this Colts team would not do as well in the playoffs (due to the yardage the defense was giving up regular season), so I am not so sure a win by the Pats would make this a more impressive run by the Pats over the Steelers.

"Patriots - it's not close"???? You are on drugs.

Against the Jets the Pats were at home, easy favorites against a surprising but clearly overachiing team. What happened in that game was generally expected by almost everyone.

The win against the Chargers was similar to the Steelers win against the Colts - unexpectedly taking down the dominant team in the league on their own turf after overcoming a huge mistake by your team leader late in the game and waiting for the other team to miss a field goal at the end of the game.

The win over the Colts - oh wait a minute - the Pats haven't done that yet - don't get ahead of yourselves folks, they haven't done it yet...

If the Patriots win, I would have to say the Patriots. I realize that the Steelers were a lower seed, but take a look at the rosters. I don't know how the Patriots win with that roster.

Let's see. the Pats are 12-4 in the regular season without a real challenge to the division title all season for 2007, played a home playoff game against a happy to be here Jets team, beat an undefeated at home SD on the road (who's home schedule wasn't really tough at all) and now plays at Indy.

Steelers 2006 - struggled to a 9-7 mark and needed help to make the playoffs. Went on the road to some impressive venues 3 weeks in a row (Cincy, Indy, Denver) and then went ahead and won the stinking super Bowl against a better Seattle team.

No question without a doubt the Steelers had the toughest road.

The world doesn't really revolve around the Boston area. :football:

Steffy, the Steelers were 11-5 last year.

And the Steelers are the obvious answer here. The won on the road against the 1, 2, and 3 seeds, and won each game in fairly convincing fashion (the Colts score was close only because of the horrible overturned non-INT call).

We can discuss this if the Patriots win the Super Bowl. Otherwise it's a pretty pointless question.
Even if the Pats win the next two regardless of the fashion the Steelers run was better. The Pats had an easy home game while all 3 Steeler wins were on the road as a #6 seed. The Pats didnt even outplay the Chargers.

Steelers!

Beating the Jets and a self destructing Chargers team is somewhat impressive, but they don't even have a sniff of the Super Bowl as of yet.

The Steelers beating the Bengals after busting Palmer's knee taints it a little, so it's not much different than the Pats beating the Jets at home. Beating Indy and Denver on the road was great for the Steelers, but if the Pats can beat the best two AFC teams who were undefeated home teams it will be more impressive.

Seeing that fact is what prompted me to start this thread. 2 undefeated teams at home. I'm not 100% confident that the Pats will win, thats why I started the thread now. If the Pats lose it would be a pretty moot point, wouldnt it.Was Denver undefeated at home last year? I know Indy lost to SD.

First learn how to use the quote function pops. Secondly, the fact that I may or may not be on drugs has little to do with the Pats or Steelers. The Steelers were handed a their Super Bowl on a silver platter last season. The 2004 Steelers would have soundly beaten the 2005 version. The Pats may or may not beat the Colts, I don't know. It's all speculation. Be sure to return here after the game for gloating or chiding, whichever the case may be.

LOLWin the conference first beofre starting stupid threads...
first off, what a dumb thread to start before they even win the Superbowlbut even if they did, I hate the Steelers, but what they did last year is something we will rarely see happen in the NFL.going on the road to beat the #3, #1, and #2 seeds. Then going against the #1 seed in the NFC and beating them too. Any time you take out the top 3 teams in your conference on the road and the highest seeded team from the other conference in the Superbowl, that's a remarkable season.

This topic shouldn't have even come up until monday if the Patriots win tomorrow, because we have no idea if the Patriots will even win, or if they do, HOW they win.

But, for the point of discussion, I'll asume the Patriots win their next 2 and win the Super Bowl...

I'll still say it's the Steelers. Now, I'm biased because I'm a Pittsburgh fan, but I think most people will agree with me. The 2005 Steelers beat the 1, 2, 3 seeds in the AFC and then went on to beat the #1 NFC seed in the Super Bowl, and all of those games were on the road or at a neutral site, so they had no home games. They dominated the #1 and #2 AFC seeds and it was only close against the Colts because of 2 major flukes (Polamalu INT reversal and Bettis fumble). When considering the Steelers run last year, you also have to look at how they won their final 4 regular season games after being 7-5. When they were 7-5, not a single person on Earth thought they had a chance to win the Super Bowl. Even when they entered the playoffs at 11-5, as the #6 seed, there was still basically no one who thought they actually could win the Super Bowl.

This is not to diss the Patriots this season, they've also had a hell of a run. But really at no point this season were they in danger of missing the playoffs, and they're the #3 seed which has been done before I believe in terms of winning the Super Bowl. If they win it all this year, they'll certainly have had one of the best runs in history, but the 2005 Steelers has to be considered the best.

:goodposting: at this thread before the game. But even so, I don't know that we'll ever have a more amazing playoff run than what we saw from PIT last year. Really even starting with the last third of the regular season. Amazing stuff there.J

Tough crowd. Ever hear of boredom on a Saturday? Saw that Indy was undefeated at home, knew that the Pats had given the Chargers their first home loss and figured I would tweak all of those that love Pats fans. Especially you Joe. We know how fair and balanced you are about all things Patriot.

What kind of reaction did you expect? You start a thread that screams of arrogance and you expect people to just dismiss it? I'm guessing you knew exactly what type of reaction you would get and are happy about it.

For the record, the Steelers not only went on the road against the #1, #2, and #3 seeds but they dominated those games. The Pats did not dominate the Chargers. Say what you want but they're lucky to be alive still.

I think the word "impressive" is key. That's not the word to use to describe the Steelers run. The Bengals lost Carson Palmer, and the refs changed the outcome of that Super Bowl - the Seahawks manhandled the Steelers in that game. You came away from Super Bowl XL questioning the Steeler pass rush after seeing how Porter and company got dominated by the Seattle OL (which turned out to be a valid concern as we have seen in 06).

If it's your opinion that the refs changed the outcome, then fine, but don't treat it as a fact because it's not. When judging them you have to look at what they acomplished, and not "what ifs." Otherwise, we could get into a debate over if the 2001 Raiders would have had the most impressive run, since most people believe the refs changed the outcome of the Tuck Rule game.

There is a pretty real chance that the 85 Pats will end up having a better run than this years Pats.

That said, solid fishing trip here.

:goodposting: They won 3 on the road as well. No chance at finishing it off though since they were meeting Chicago in the Bowl.

Agreed. I mean, it's a topic trying to compare a #3 seed that wins 2 playoff games (which happens a lot) to a #6 seed that in one playoff run, beats two #1 seeds, a #2 seed, and a #3 seed.

The 2007 Pats have beaten the Jets :goodposting: , Chargers with Rivers and his zero experience, Colts and Manning's choke factor, and a crummy NFC opponent to be named later. Seriously, were the girl scouts and home for the blind unavailable?

Don't diss the Pats run THAT much. They've still been quite impressive thus far, beating a tough division rival and beating the Chargers. The win against San Diego wasn't the most impressive thing, but that game was being played as "who will make the most positive plays in a game filled with errors" and the Patriots were that team. But still, even if they win their next 2 in dominating fashion, about 90% of people (including NFL experts) will still view the 2005 Steelers as more impressive, and rightfully so.

Dammit. I saw this thread and was going to post "In before BGP says the 2006 Steelers didn't really win" but I see I'm too late.
