Steelers Passing Numbers for Week 1 (1 Viewer)

Big Ben threw the ball a STAGGERING 14 times.

14 pass attempts people.

Gary Coleman threw it 4 times (I'm assuming in garbage time).

That's 18 total pass attempts in an entire game.

13 of BB's attempts were completed.

Analysis:

There's a couple of possibilities.

1. The Steelers were able to run on the Texans so much they didn't even bother passing.

2. The Steelers are moving away from the passing game they got into last year and focusing more on the run (would explain drafting Mendenhall)

3. The Texans just suck on defense.

4. The Steelers knew they were suspect against the run and it's too early to determine anything from this game.

If 1 is true, this hurts the Texans OFFENSE. Teams will run on them and manage the clock and theoritically willl be in low scoring affairs.

If 2 is true, then Mendenhall is a MUST HAVE for Parker owners. He'll get garbage time carries and help split the load.

If 3 is true, this HELPS the Texans passing game (assuming they'll be behind alot)

#1

Ben went out near the end of the 3rd (I think it was then) when the game was well in hand. It won't be #2 because they really don't throw that much as it is. It just seems like they do. Ben had about 100 fewer attempts than the other top qbs last year.

Steelers are good but they wont be blowing opponents out of the building every week

combination of 3 and 4. The Pittsburgh has a relatively easy schedule up until mid year, then they have to play NE, SD, IND, NYG, DAL and JAX. So what you see yesterday may be the norm for a few weeks. Then we'll have to reevaluate.

The Texans were brutal yesterday. They couldn't stop the run at all, so the Steelers didn't have to pass. I wouldn't put too much stock in yesterday's game, it was a blowout. Final score was not indicative of the Steelers' dominance.

The Steelers could do whatever they wanted against the Texans. They had the lead from the beginning of the game and ran at will and their defense totally stuffed the Houston offense so there was no reason to pass.

 Ben still had 2 TD passes, we wil see Ben toss it around more this week.

Waaaay too early to be making any determinations, especially after Sunday's game. It was a blowout. Do you really expect the Steelers to go out to a 35-3 lead every week?

Teams will run on my Texans until that dumbfugg Richard Smith creates a defensive scheme that actually works. If your RB is going against the Houston defense, consider him a solid start at minimum and a must-start for any of top-fifteen backs. Mario Williams is a freak, but he can't do it alone.

Ben got hit in the knee either late 2nd or early 3rd quarter. They actually had the backup warming up & looked like Ben might have been done for the day as a precaution. Ben did go back in but with the game easily in hand I believe he may have only thrown the ball 2 times in the 3rd. Both were little roll out passes. I was watching close to make sure the knee looked fine. Imo that may have had something to do with the cut back on the passing in the 2nd half.
