PITTSBURGH Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger returned to the practice field today for the first time since an emergency appendectomy two weeks ago.
At his weekly press conference yesterday, head coach Bill Cowher said that Roethlisberger has to practice to play this week and that a decision on his starting quarterback for the Monday night game in Jacksonville may not come until game day.
"I feel good, getting better every day," Roethlisberger said. "My stomach feels pretty good. Obviously anytime you push on a wound where someone cut into your body it's going to hurt a little bit. For the most part it feels real good."
Roethlisberger has four days to convince Cowher that he's ready to take on the Jaguars.
"I don't make the decision if I play or not," Roethlisberger said. "That's coach's call."
Roethlisberger said that he doesn't have any discomfort in the area of his incision.
