Steelers vs. Cardinals (1 Viewer)

Mendenhall looked better on that drive, against the 2nd team. Is it him, or is the offensive line just unable to open up any running lanes?

Another great kick by Daniel- 50 yards. I'm loving it. I really think this will make a decisive difference in a few games this year.

If this was the regular season, I'd have invented 32 new profanities on that PI call. But it's not, so I'm having another beer.

Quick thoughts from the first half:

- Sweed looks like he could play a significant role for the Steelers this season. He made a couple nice catches where he had to go up and get the ball. He provides an element of height and range that the other Steelers WRs lack. I don't know if he's ever going to be a starter for this team, but he looks like he's ready to take the WR3 spot and maybe be a nice value in deep best ball redraft leagues.

- Hightower looked okay. He runs like a man on fire. Decent power with a quick first step. He's not the world's greatest running back, but he'll be serviceable if Wells can't stay healthy. I still think Beanie is going to win this job if he can get his act together.

- Mendenhall looked good. The stat line won't show it because he didn't have many lanes to work with, but he looked quicker and more decisive than he did last year. If he keeps running like this, he could be a big part of this offense even if Parker is healthy.

- Leinart had some good throws and some bad throws. It seems like he's half a beat slow delivering the ball. His passes lack zip and tend to sail a little bit. It wasn't a terrible performance though. He looked decent.

- It looked like Ben Patrick was the starting TE for Arizona. He might be someone to monitor in deep leagues. I wouldn't get too excited yet though. Even if he wins the job, he'll clearly be the fourth or fifth option in the passing game. If tonight was any indication, Breaston will continue to be a big part of Arizona's passing attack.

 I enjoyed your analysis. Breaston is a guy I definitely plan targeting later on in my draft if he's still around.

It may be the uniform, but Dixon looks a little thicker than he was as a Duck. He always looked like a gawky scarecrow there; his legs looked like sticks.

Sadly, Dixon isn't looking very good. I really like the kid, but he's now showing a good deep arm (which I thought he had) and he's missing some passes.

Wallace is certainly fast.

I think Mike Wallace is going to be a good one. If Sweed gets a little more consistent (and I think he's on his way), I'd be perfectly happy with Holmes, Sweed, and Wallace as our wideouts for the forseeable future.

Dixon looking much more comfortable late. Looking sharp with good passes.

Seriously, I know its 3rd stringers, but Redman looks a lot more solid than Vincent or Carey Davis. Had an excellent goal line run as well.

Check that, TWO excellent goal line runs. He's a bowling ball.

I wouldn't be disappointed if he replaced Davis.

:goodposting: Back to Back Baby :towelwave:
Brady looks real good, sorry..
We'll see you at the AFC Championship Game....in Heinz Field.
Really? I'd rather them visit Foxboro. The Steelers owe them.
Haha.. its too ealry for this. Seriously, good luck Steelers. may the best team advance to the superbowl. since when to the steelers own the pats?
We'll be nice and chalk that up to too many preseason beers.

General impressions:

Big Ben will continue to be a much better NFL QB than fantasy QB. Seriously I can't remember a QB with as much ability to shed DLINEMEN and would be tacklers, keep his composure and makes plays out of almost nothing. I really hope the Oline improves enough that he won't have to make those types of plays nearly as much as he did last year. But regardless I'm awful glad he is the Steelers QB.

Sweed had an impressive night. Made several tough catches and seemed to really use his big body and frame well. I think he is exactly the type of WR that Pitt needs to expand their offense. Still I'd like to see him be more consistent making the "routine" catches as well.

Mendenhall looked like an average RB playing behind an average Oline. I didn't see the explosivness out of him I would have like for a starting RB. Against the 2nd team he looked good. Jury is still out on Mendenhall.

Warner may be the best QB in the NFL at beating the blitz. He gets the ball out of his hand so fast and makes decisions as quick as anyone in the league.

Hightower had a tough night but that was to be expected vs. the stingy Steelers D. Still he ran hard and it is obvious he feels as though he is playing for his position right now.

My observations:

1. It is REALLY nice to see Sepulveda back. I swear that you could put Ernster/Bergers best two punts of last season together and they wouldn't have equaled one of Sepulveda's.

2. I know it is only the first preseason game but Dixon stills looks too raw for him to take the #2 QB job away from Batch.

3. Carey Davis is not very good. With this O-line we're going to need a FB that can open up some running lanes and I don't think Davis is up to the task. Tank did a nice job on the 2nd TD run.

4. The starting O-line did okay with pass protection but continues to struggle in run blocking. Mendenhall looked okay but there really wasn't much space to run. Vincent had a little more success but Redman looked very good. I realize he was playing the scrubs but he had a very nice game.

5. Sweed looked pretty good and perhaps playing with a chip on his shoulder. He shoulda had the catch that he dropped though. I thought Wallace looked very good as well. Sean McDonald made some nice catches but his bobbling of a couple passes right in his hands could be a cause of concern.

6. Burnett made a nice play jumping the route on his interception. I think we might have found our #4 CB.

7. I liked Ziggy's comment after the game: He said he would do a dance when he got his first sack. Now that he has one he said he is done with dancing.

8. I think Leinart easily wins the #2 QB job. St. Pierre looked horrible (and really never has impressed me in his time with the Steelers). I think Palko looked much better than St. Pierre and it would nice to see him get the #3 spot. With Fitzgerald in his corner I think he might have a shot.

9. That PI call on Madison was putrid. I thought it was a clean play but when I saw the flag I thought for sure it was on WR Sean Morrey. Certainly nothing to get upset about but I don't understand why officials have such a hard time with the pass interference rule.

10. Did I mention how nice it was to have Dan Sepulveda back?
