Chargers inside linebacker Stephen Cooper was suspended for four games by the NFL on Tuesday for testing positive for a banned stimulant.

This makes things interesting, as either Derek Smith or Anthony Waters will probably start the first four games. If they play well enough, I could see them keeping the job after Cooper comes back, and Wilhelm ending up in a backup role. (Just like Cromartie stayed in the lineup after Jammer came back last year, with Florence ending up in the backup role.)

I just moved Cooper for Stewart Bradley and a 7th round Rookie. I don't even care if I get "great" value. I replaced the years (Contract 3) and hopefully got the Philly MLB for years to come. We'll see.

Absolutely no way Wilhelm hits the bench.. If coop didn't get suspended without a doubt those two were opening first day next to each other on the inside... now i say its going to be wilhelm/smith... waters looks promising but smith has the experience. But everybody in SD is very high on wilhelm, just like coop... they were grooming these 2 for a while.

Smith was very poor in SF the last few years. If he beats out Waters--whom I have in a few leauges--I'm cutting bait.Yes, Smith is that bad, imo

I'd be very surprised. I guess anything is possible, but OT, DT, CB, RB, and S are all much bigger needs. At ILB, they have Cooper, Wilhelm, Waters, Smith, Siler, and Dobbins. That's plenty.

He'll miss the first four games, and then going forward probably do the same thing he did last year.
