Steroid/HGH apologies (1 Viewer)

Why is it so hard to say...

"I took steroids/HGH as the Mitchell report claimed. I'm sorry that I cheated the game by taking a substance that gave me an advantage over my peers, but it was a lapse in judgment for which I have no excuse"

If somebody said that, I don't think anyone would give them crap, and it is a legit apology, not this wishy washy statements made by BRob and Pettite..

Because the lawyers are writing the apologies...it comes with the territory...

I agree with you, I either want the player to come out and say I took steroids, I did nothing wrong, it's part of the game, or issue a legit apology.

I think you will hear MOST of the accused say they used HGH - "for rehab". HGH was not banned in baseball when they supposedly bought/used, though it was illegal to acquire it without a prescription. But unlike steroids, it is a "soft" abuse.

Everyone's easy out is to just say "I was physically compromised and my love for the game and playing drove me to take HGH to try and get back sooner".

You are expecting a lot.

These guys are pissed they are named at all, considering they look around and see plenty of their peers, who are not clean either, skating through this. So they give a half hearted apology, blaming it on trying to recover from injury. Nobody will admit that they are cheats because they know how many others just like them, will never admit to it.

You are going to get the bare minimum from everyone, I'm sure that's what the players union wants anyway.

I concur, but is anybody mollified by these half hearted apologies? If they are going to give these stupid half apologies, I'd rather they just not address the issue at all rather than give a weak-### non apology. They could even say, "While use was common at the time that does not excuse my actions."The "taking HGH because you were injured", is a silly excuse.I'd almost prefer that they say "It wasn't illegal, I did it to overcome an injury, and if you don't like it, too bad" (i know this won't happen, but it would sure be nice if it did)

Actually several players have said just that; but if anything I'm even more insulted by their ridiculous claims.

So we're to believe that:

Brian Roberts used steroids "one time" and then saw the error of his ways?

Andy Petitte used HGH "twice for injuries" and never skated the system again?

Fernando Vina used HGH just a few times in 2003 to "get back on the field" but never did anything else in his career?

What's so baffling to me is just how stupid these players must think we all are. That somehow they each got caught with their hand in the cookie jar just that ONE TIME and are merely innocent victims of a MLB machine looking for scapegoats?

How crazy is it to think the Jose Canseco looks like he was 100% right from the very start.

Which is why they didn't seek the advice of a board-certified, medical expert (i.e., an MD), but instead, they all went to one of their clubhouse lackeys to help with their rehab. You'd have to have an IQ nowhere above 70 with a stiff breeze at your back to believe this crap.

...And their agents too. However, to quote HL Mencken, "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the stupidity of the American people"
