Stevan Ridley - Dynasty stash? Breakout 2011? (1 Viewer)

Time to start paying attention to this guy? I know this board has been talking about him for awhile, but with his performance last night the non-sharks might be jumping aboard the Ridley Express

Definitely a guy worth stashing late, but you can say the same for Vereen. With Belicheck's situational use of RBs though, one would really have to break out - or wait for the others to get hurt again - to get the lion's share of carries.

Very very slim chance for breakout this year.

its good to see him do well, but I gotta think unless he completely overwhelms he is behind BJGE, Woodhead, Vereen.

Some other dude on NE ran for two TD's also. If anything the success of Ridley and others just proves that the NE run game is strong and there will be value for whoever gets the bulk of carries, probably BJGE again.

Or JAX has no run defense. Or depth on the DL.

I was referring not just to Ridley and last night but BJGE, Woodhead, last year. They have a good offense and RB's benefit.

Yesterday was weird for Ridley.

First all the starters for NE sat- no Brady, Welker, Ocho, BJGE- so the fact that he played indicates that he is 2nd string at best right now.

On the other hand he caught 7 balls on 8 targets and led the team in both. If you are looking for a player that could be the guy in NE someone who can both run between the tackles and catch out of the backfield has a good shot. BJGE is decent but doesn't catch and Woodhead doesn't look to be an every down back (at least the Patriots don't use him as one) so Ridley could catch their eye as an all purpose back and end up with a bunch of touches.

Ridley almost scored there as well. They pulled him at the 2 and inserted Medlin otherwise it would have been 4 TDs

Just watched the Pats vs. Jags preseason game and came away disgusted with the 2011 draft. Mallet looks way better than Gabbert. Blaine's accuracy with intermediate throws looks very suspect to me.

Ridley looks amazing. He looks leaps and bounds better than Woodhead and Morris. Faulk wasn't dressed and is coming off an ACL tear. Not sure if Vereen even played. Only guy keeping Ridley from being a fantasy steal this season is Law Firm. This situation looks like a poor man's version of what's going on in New Orleans right now, except that Ridley is way under the radar comparatively.

Draft skills not roles.

Ridley was 1st team All-SEC last year. A league that included Ingram, Richardson, Dyer, Lattimore, etc. He is big, fast, and has good hands.

To write him off because he is buried on the depth chart behind a couple of MEDIOCRE RBs is extremely short-sighted.

I have been aquiring this guy all off season long. Dynasty buy. The Patriots didn't reach for Ridley. They drafted him exactly where the draft committee predicted he would go. And they didn't draft a backup; they drafted him to fill a niche role. He will do that.

Honestly, he doesn't impress. Sure, i'd love 3 tds, and he may work out in that system. But, first live look at him did nothing for me. Looks very avg at best.

After last night's performance, I think you have to take into account the complete lack of ability of JAX to stop anything with their 2nd/3rd string D. Ridley could have easily had 5 TDs last night if BB wanted him to. Probably Vareen could have had 3-4 TDs playing hurt based on what I saw in last night. I think the amazing showing by the 2 NE QBs was what gave them the opportunity to walk in so many scores.
