Steve Johnson - BUF (1 Viewer)

I rank Stevie in the top 15 but I'm higher on him than most owners. It was his breakout 3rd season in the league and I see his production continuing no matter who the Bills have at quarterback. He's a reception machine with breakaway speed and hits on the long ball as well.

Stevie catches a lot of passes because he's great at running routes and getting separation. He, however, does not have breakaway speed. He's almost the complete opposite of Lee Evans... he'll get his 100+ yard games through 6 or 7 catches whereas Evans will be boom or bust needing at least one bomb from JP Losman.

I would go top 25, i think he is talented, I'm just so afraid of Bills players both in fantasy and real life. There just not reliable enough. Take it from me I even like the Bills

Keep in mind Buffalo is running a Chan Gailey offense. Multiple formation, often empty backfield, often shotgun with a lot of "run and shoot" type of passing plays. That usually bodes well for the no.1 WR. It's certainly not a given though. According to pro football reference, on all of the pro teams where Gailey has been either an offensive coordinator or a head coach, his teams have all managed to produce a WR that reached the 1000 yd milestone except for the '89 broncos and the '99 + '00 dolphins (but let's face it, jay fiedler sucked). I think it's unwise to look backward and say that we should avoid the Bills WR's because they've burned us in the past. Gailey's offense can score really well with a smart QB at the helm, and I think Fitzpatrick is at least capable in that regard. Johnson is a hard worker, a smart route runner, and he's got great hands. He's in an offense that will feed him the ball deep and he has a decent (if not deceptively good) QB. I'd put my chips on him having nice mid WR 1 numbers similar to a Greg Jennings for at least another couple years (when Gailey gets fired, lol).

Not if the big man has anything to do with it.
The big man? Sorry I don't get the reference
Could be wrong but thats a reference to SJ's post Pitt OT drop twittering about the man upstairs causing him to drop the gw td?I like Steve Johnson going forward, esp with Fitz as the QB. Throw in a rookie and its anyones guess who gets the chemistry with him. He has the skills but teams wont be surprised now. I think he sees more double coverage then Evans. I like him as a #2 WR with WR1 potential.

Johnson is a very good route runner, but he dropped an unbelievable number of passes on the year.

Nice writeup.

He dropped 8 passes last year. Tied for 7th highest (with 7 other players). While I agree that number is a little too high, keep in mind that Wes Welker, Reggie Wayne, Terrel Owens, Brandon Marshall, Miles Austin and Pierre Garcon all had MORE drops than Johnson last year. Would you have a problem rolling with any of those names on your team? (Except T.O., that dudes goose is officially cooked in FF). I think having arguably the most famous drop of 2010 has soured his image with people.

If I remember correctly, that whole game was terrible for Stevie. I think 3 or 4 of his drops were in that game alone. I'm not sure how that compares to other receivers with a lot of drops, but his season was more like one really bad game and about a drop every 4 games the rest of the season rather then consistent drops all the time.

Just his public reaction to that one drop alone gives me optimism that he takes his game seriously and it won't likely be a regular occurence with him going forward. I really like this guy as a sneaky wr1/2 especially in dynasty, where he can probably be had for relatively cheap compared to a lot of other names, mostly because of the uniform he wears

Stevie dropped 5 passes in the Pitt game. I don't know how many he dropped in the other games, but I think it was more than 3, because i remember griping about his dropped passes before the Pitt game. I guess Dropped Passes is a subjective stat.I agree with your evaluation of him as good value. The only thing that will knock down his value is if the Bills bring in a veteran WR and move Stevie to WR3, or if they draft and start a rookie QB.

Thats a new one I hadnt heard. Why would they move their best WR to 3? Evans is done and showed nothing while Stevie is a young up and coming talent? Would they bring in a veteran and not let go of Evans?I agree on the rookie QB. Stevie and Fitz had great chemistry.

I don't think Johnson is anything special but I do think with Gailey running the offense he will put up good numbers as long as he is the possesion guy for them.

I don't know if you guys were watching last season but Johnson broke out. Prediction: he's the new T.O. and will be a top 10 or possibly top 5 receiver.

After holding him for 3 years with pretty much no return on investment, I was EXTREMELY pleased with his breakout last year.

I just worry that if Evans does go away, he may turn into another Peerless Price - Great season as the #2, but disappears as a #1.

Admittedly, I did not see any Bills games other than that snow game against CLE, so I am just going off the numbers, and did not know how legit he actually looked, and if the opponents started matching him against the #1 CB later in the year.

Lee Evans being a "talented no.1 on a bad team" is one of the shark pool's biggest fallacies over the last 4 years.

Last night I was offered Johnson for Emmanuel Sanders/Jerome Simpson/2012 1st and 2nd.

I think that is a bit too much to give.

Oh I was certainly watching. How is he just a possession Guy?
He possesses the ball ....in the end zone.....frequently.

Shhhh...don't say that Cincy WR's name again on these boards please. And yes, that is quite a bit to give. But mostly because of 'the unnamed one'

Actually, for both unnamed ones. Shhh...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk2uodq13Dgi know it's the highlights job to make a player look good, but this is just given you a little better idea of what you got.

Rotoworld saying Johnson tied for the league lead in drops with 13 (Brandon Marshall, Welker and Garcon also had 13). Stevie dropped 5 passes in the Pitt game. My source for dropped pass statshttp://hosted.stats.com/fb/leaders.asp?type=Receiving&range=NFL&rank=232And I agree, dropped pass stats are probably way more subjective than people think.

Ok, I feel better now...he made some well-respected CBs look silly in those clips, including Rashan Mathis at the :50 mark. :)

Wow, and people say he doesn't have breakaway speed? He looks pretty quick on the field.

Compare him to Lee Evans? Evans runs straight, Johnson is all over the field cutting people down.
