Steve Smith (Car) - Thoughts for the rest of the year? (1 Viewer)

I made what I thought was a good trade in Turner for Steve Smith because I have 6RB's and only 2 WR's.

Kicking myself for the trade, but it is what it is and I must move forward.

Anyway, he had 3 catches for 70yds last week vs. the Vikes.

His schedule is relatively favorable and I'm just curious what folks think of him for the year.

Code:
Please leave out the "ouch, that's gotta hurt" etc's. It already stings enough.

I think he'll be fine.. It was his 1st game & the Vikes played an absolutely flawless defensive game. Delhomme had no time to throw the ball. As long as you can handle losing Turner which you stated you have depth. I think Smith will be more than fine this year...

I think you'll be better off in the long term. Carolina has played 3 tough defenses, while Atlanta has been playing cupcakes. That changes this week, with Turner facing Carolina and then Carolina playing the cupcakes Atlanta already played. Turner is at the hight of his value, and Smith has nowhere to go but up.

He's only played one game - if he played in the first two and his numbers were poor, I'd be concerned.

All that said, the running game looks to be as good as it's been in several years, so that could limit the times Delhomme needs to chuck the ball. To be sure, Smith performed at a top-level in the past when the DEF and running game were strong, but they also seem to have more weapons in the passing game now than in years past to take some looks away.

I think as long as Delhomme is healthy, Smith will be a WR1. It was a tough game vs. Minny, but he's too talented to be held down long, I think.

I've been trying to pry Smith away from his current owner for the last 3 weeks but he won't budge. With that schedule I would be shocked if Smith isn't BIG this year.

All the asssholes are coming out of the woodwork for this one.

I didn't watch the Panthers game, just the highlights and the stat sheet. Looks to me like Jake was under a lot of pressure and Smith's catches tapered off in the second half. If Jake has time in the pocket then Smith should put up plenty of points.

I think 4-70-0 is his floor with Delhomme and their schedule. With the kind of pressure Delhomme was seeing, this was an excellent game for Smith. They ran into an 0-2 buzzsaw with a talented defensive front (which may be starting to hit its stride by the way).

I think you can expect stat lines like the beginning of last year before the debacle:

@St Louis 7-118-1

Houston 8-153-3

This team can run the ball a bit better than last year but they will take their shots. They always have even when they could run before. The guy will tear it up.

he's a stud, the problem last week was the Panthers O line was dominated by the Vikings D line. It won't happen every week, that's for sure.

Steve Smith is always a tricky guy. You know he is an awesome receiver, but his stats often do not reflect how great he really is. He plays in a slightly conservative offense, and he has had problems with his QB staying healthy, so it has been difficult for him to put up Godly WR stats on a yearly basis. He is always capable of a monster game, though.

I read something from Fox this week saying that Smith was dialed up for a few plays in the 2nd half that just didn't succeed because Jake was under too much pressure. I got the impression that he was open but Jake just couldn't get him the ball in time. Gotta give credit to the D sometimes.

So, I think top 5 is probable right?

Despite Delhome injury, S Smith is set to be a elite fantsy WR again.
