Edited to reflect John Claytons words better:The News
The early word out of Carolina is that Steve Smith's hamstring remains a problem. Smith evidently went for a second opinion, and his teammates now sense Smith may have to miss Sunday's game against the Bucs as well. Smith needs to practice by Thursday or Friday to show the coaches the hamstring injury is behind him. ESPN's John Clayton reports that might be too much to ask this week.
Our View
Things continue to get worse for the Panthers. Not only have they fallen two games behind Atlanta in the division, but they may have to travel to play a desperate Tampa team this week without their best playmaker. Fantasy owners who dropped an early pick on Smith are now regretting that decision. We are also concerned that once Smith returns, this injury could come back again at some point. Smith is a big play receiver, but his injury history shows a definite downside to his game as well. Smith has missed 17 of his last 33 starts due to injury.
The key will be how (if) he practices today and Monday.JPanthers' Smith still hobbled: The early word out of Carolina is that Steve Smith's hamstring remains a problem.
