Steve Smith may miss week 3 (1 Viewer)

The News

The early word out of Carolina is that Steve Smith's hamstring remains a problem. Smith evidently went for a second opinion, and his teammates now sense Smith may have to miss Sunday's game against the Bucs as well. Smith needs to practice by Thursday or Friday to show the coaches the hamstring injury is behind him. ESPN's John Clayton reports that might be too much to ask this week.

Our View

Things continue to get worse for the Panthers. Not only have they fallen two games behind Atlanta in the division, but they may have to travel to play a desperate Tampa team this week without their best playmaker. Fantasy owners who dropped an early pick on Smith are now regretting that decision. We are also concerned that once Smith returns, this injury could come back again at some point. Smith is a big play receiver, but his injury history shows a definite downside to his game as well. Smith has missed 17 of his last 33 starts due to injury.
Edited to reflect John Claytons words better:

The key will be how (if) he practices today and Monday.J

That is pathetic. I have a feeling that "missed" number is going to grow significantly this season.

How many games will Smith miss this year from now on?

At least 3?

Well, thats a little misleading. He missed the entire 2004 season with a different leg injury due to surgery. This one doesnt sounds nearly as serious. But I'm fully prepared for him tomiss another 2-4 weeks. As long as I can stay at .500 in my league while he's out, I'm okay. Right now I'm 1-1.

Not really. He missed 15 games in 2004, because he broke his leg in the first game, and he was put on IR. He missed no games last year.

Amazing how much crap TO took for his hammy while Steve continues to sit on the bench.
Might have a bit more to do with Tour de France outfit and TO fresh off of blowing things up in Philly, oh and the "there is 10 years of game film on me if he wants to see me" quote.

Do you think it has anything to do with the fact that TO brought attention to himself by dressing up in Tour De France gear? Oh yeah, maybe was that he was running routes and looked good working out by himself after practice. Maybe it was that everyday he had to open his mouth and stir the pot to make people wonder.I don't know, that could the reason....errrr....reasons why!

When you see Steve Smith wearing a Discovery Channel biker suit...then come compare TO to SS.
Did that whole thing really make people angry? It was a joke, mostly poking fun at himself for spending more time on the bike than on the field. I thought it was funny.

When someone's an ##### for the last few years, and every move he makes is a selfish one, you lose the right to try to be funny.

Hey Shooter,Nothing to do with the post here, but I never realized how much you and Jack Del Rio look alike until this past Monday night. Mind blowing...

It is what it is said:

That's because Smith's injury is legit.

Panthers :: WR

Rumor, WR S. Smith Wants More Money?

Ira Kaufman, Tampa Tribune - [Full Article]

WR Steve Smith skipped the four preseason games with a strained left hamstring. Now he has missed the first two consequential games of 2006 with a strained right hamstring. Rumors are filtering out of Charlotte that Smith is healthy enough to play but is disgruntled with his contract situation. "Steve is a great football player, he proved that to everybody last year," HC John Fox said. "He's a guy we prefer to have out there, but the reality is he's not. When he's ready, he'll be in. Right now, he's not ready."

(From the FBG Blogger)
If I were Carolina, I'd do everything possible to get him gruntled again.

Hey Guys,

Please be really careful with stuff like this. I updated to reflect what Clayton said. He's saying he MAY miss and it MIGHT be too much for him to practice this week.

We'll know more today and tomorrow.

J

Just heard on the radio that Smith is practicing in full pads today

Edit to add - no link, just heard it on the Bill Radzinski (sp) show.
