Oak's D has done a decent job of shuting down WR1s on teams... some of it is that teams just aren't threatened that Oak is going to score much. But for FF is anyone Benching Smith today.

Nah. You just have to temper expectations, that's all. Giants will run the crap out of the ball today, so passing numbers will be down as a result.

I actually like the Giants to come out and try to get on top very quickly. I believe that the Giants ideal scenario is to be up big at halftime so Eli can sit the 2nd half.

I agree, so I am starting Cassell against a weak Cowboy secondary, and sitting both Eli and Hasslebeck.Swamp

I like this thought. That plus if you look at how the GMen attacked the Chiefs last week through the air early I think they could find some success. Though Smith is the Giants best statistical receiver, is he "the #1"?

It doesnt matter what he is(1,2,3,4) The guy is one of the best route runners in the league. If there is a hole Eli will want to find him. Start him knowing that they will probably only be throwing for the first half.

Not to sound harsh but have you watched any of the Giants games this year? He is far & away the #1 WR this year on that team.. He is looking incredible & Eli looks to him all of the time..

He has something like 44 targets IIRC, 12 more than Manningham, 37 more than any other WR on the roster. Randy Moss I think has one more target and leads the league. What would you require before you stamp him as "the #1"?

jesus. you just said you are starting matt cassell over eli manning and matt hasselbeck?

Nnamdi Asomugha stays on the right side of the formation and the Giants' receivers move around constantly, so don't worry about the shutdown corner zeroing out Mario Manningham or Steve Smith. However, Manningham typically spend the most time on the left side of the offense, has slowed considerably since his Week 2 explosion (three-catch, 49-yard average with no TDs), and is already losing snaps to Hakeem Nicks. Bench Mario, but keep Smith rolling. He'll play often in the slot, where the Raiders can be exposed, particularly if SS Tyvon Branch (hip) isn't at full speed. :football:

uncertainty about eli will probably end up pushing me in that direction but it feels strange benching the #1 wr in ff

I want to start him, but can`t pull out Calvin or Wayne for him. Does Eli play all game, and if he doesn`t what does that do to his value?
