Steve Smith needs microfracture surgery
The New York Daily News' Ralph Vacchiano reports that Steve Smith will need microfracture surgery and a mosaicplasty on his left knee.
It's apparently not as bad as it sounds, though. Vacchiano referred to the prognosis as "good", saying the rehab will be lengthy, but the injury is to a non-weight bearing area of the knee. Smith will be on crutches for six weeks after the procedure. Despite the "good" prognosis, this certainly isn't a best-case scenario. Smith will be a free agent after the season, so it will be interesting to see how his contract status will be affected. Dec. 16 - 12:37 pm et
