Delcraps is not looking at Steve Smith enough anyway, I welcome a change and someone with some guts to throw the ball to Steve Smith, not a very, very, slow Keyshawn. I am so fed up with the play calling of the panthers. They think their backs are LJ or LT, they try to run every game, and that is their problem. Throw the ball to Stevie Franchise!!!

5 receptions per game for someone as athletic and explosive as Smith is absolutely ridiculous.

I notice they dont throw any more of those quick outs to him anymore. I'd probably throw that to him atleast 10 times a game. Even if the CB was up close

The only logical conclusion is that Steve Smiths numbers will decrease, at least this week. Weinke hasn't played in an actual game in how long? That doesn't mean he sucks, it just means the coach will likely rely more heavily on the running game than usual. Thus, a decline in Steve Smiths numbers should be expected.

He played in a game last year. It was against Detroit, and it was the last drive of the game when Jake got a concussion. Weinke finished the drive with a touchdown. That's not much playing, but Weinke knows the Panthers system inside and out so the game plan shouldn't change much. I hope the play calling does change some, because it has been terrible in the 4th quarter. The conservative approach in the 4th quarter sure hasn't shown good results. I guess the Panthers will just have to lose the rest of the season for the OC to figure that out.

Huh, not sure what you mean.... maybe you mean to individual WRs, since the league median is ~222yd/game.Despite the implosion of the NYG, I believe only one WR who topped 100 yards against them was Marvin in week 1. TO came close. I don't see "shutdown" ...laughing, but I think respectability at a minimum.They "held" Tony Romo to 250 yds, 0 TDs and 2 picks... they're banged up, and are adjusting somewhat. Held TO under 100 and no score... but we'll see TO and Smith couldn't be more opposite in WR-styles.

He is expected back next week, and actually hasn't been ruled out for this week, although the chances are slim he plays. He says he is feeling better, and Fox said Jake is one of the guys who doesn't need to practice to play, but they won't play him if it is hindering him at all. It's one of those wait and see things.

Yep, good catch.... looked up a few games, recalled the rest from memory. Funny as TO, Galloway, Wayne, and a slew of other WRs.... yet Moose and Grossman top'd 100. Go figur'.

The "only logical conclusion?" Give me a break. It's the NFL, guy... any given Sunday.Smith's number have already been falling off over the last 5 weeks with Delhomme. Smith used to be a given to get 10+ targets a week. That's not the case as of late. Only his TDs have bailed out fantasy owners during this period. Weinke knows the system and it's very, very reasonable to think that the gameplan with a new QB could be 1) run the ball 2) rely on your playmakers. I'm not saying that Smith will go off for 200 yards and 2 TDs, but IMO no one should be expecting less than 5/75 and that's been his average over the last 5 weeks with Delhomme.
