Steve Smith's replacement (1 Viewer)

The other SS thread does not address who his replacement is.

Odds are, both Colbert and Carter are FA's in most leagues. So, who would step in if SS's hammys can't hold up?

I've never seen Carter and don't know anything about him.

Which WR is worth the gamble?

Nobody can replace Steve Smith. He's quick and strong and can make a 2 yard hitch into a 17 yard gain. Colbert, Carter and Keyshawn for that matter won't be able to duplicate that. IMO, that's what makes SS the player he is. He finds yards where others can't. He breaks tackles with his low center of gravity and powerful legs. Carolina just doesn't have another guy like that on their WR corps. If SS breaks down or can't be the SS we know him to be, the Panthers will look to other offensive plays, although I have seen Drew Carter run the 2-yd hitch, but nobody does it like Steve.

I think that on general terms, Colbert backs up Keyshawn and Carter backs up Smith. I don't really think that in the first week of the season, with no game history to look at, you should start Drew Carter this week. If you have Smith and don't play him, just start your next best WR. But I would expect Carter to get more points than Colbert.

Agreed on this point.I'm looking for the person that could be Smith's long term replacement. Two hammy strains are enough to raise flags with me. If you happen to have depth on your roster, who is the person to snag?

trust me guys, drew carter is the guy who will start in smith's place IF he misses time. He's the speed guy and is listed behind Smith on the depth chart. But Smith is tough, and i think he will play, and play well this weekend.

Agreed on the toughness of Smith, but two hammy "tweaks" is clearly cause for concern. Thanks for the feedback.

ETA - that is not sarcasm...thanks for providing input on this subject.

I think the key question is not who his backup is but which WR will get the most production if SS goes down and I believe that would be Keyshawn Johnson similar to how Muhammad was the man prior to SS and early in SS's career.

Keyshawns stock will increase rapidly in Smith's absence. Delhomme loves to lock in on one target. Muhammad is nowhere near Smith's talent, but look what he did the year SMith broke his leg.
