Stolen Bases (1 Viewer)

Polecat

Pierre started out the season on the bench, now he's started seven straight and he's stealing everytime he gets on. Is this going to last, or is there too much competition for playing time and he goes back to the bench?

Bourn started out hot on the basepaths, then his average and base-stealing went south together. Will he come back and start running again?

I've gotta pick one. Thoughts?

I like Pierre. He won't kill your average, and should help out enough with runs.

From Buster Olney's blog:

Juan Pierre has always been an old-school free-swinger, someone who hacks first and asks questions later. But in the first five weeks of his season, there has been a dramatic change in Pierre.

"He's picking through pitches," said one talent evaluator. "I think with the competition going on" -- with four Dodgers outfielders competing for three spots -- "he had to re-think a little bit the way he was playing. In the time I've seen him, you can really see him trying to get on base, in a way that's different from in the past. There's a deliberate thought process going on there. His at-bats look different."

That's because they are different, so far. Entering Wednesday's game, Pierre is averaging 3.67 pitches per plate appearances, more than a quarter of a pitch better than the 3.40 pitches per plate appearance he averaged last year, and he is hitting .316, with a .388 on-base percentage. He's never had an on-base percentage of greater than .378.

Give me Bourn - he doesn't have to split playing time with 2 better younger players and another one with a bloated contract. Pierre's value skyrockets if he is traded to another team, but his own contract is 250% overvalued so he's not going anywhere unless Colletti admits he captains a failboat and pays 1/2 the remaining salary.

Cant go wrong with either IMO as both will steal about the same. Bourn should trump Pierre in runs due to more playing time and Pierre should trump Bourne in BA.

I don't know what you'd be getting rid of to get one of these two, but SB's aren't essential in a H2H. Unlike roto, you can get away with punting a category in H2H.

As for which one

Bourn - more power, more runs, more PT, job security

Pierre - better OBP/BA

Depends what your team needs.

In H2H with ten categories, you are a fool to punt a category. That means you have to take six of nine to win and that's ridiculous.

I'm interested in all of you saying that Bourn has more power. That is not really saying much, as I have more power than Pierre. Bourn had 16 homers in 1,552 pa in the minors. He really doesn't have much power. I know he already has 3 this year....but by the same token he has 5 rbi's total.

Bourn's 277 OBP & 565 OPS are category killers.

As Knightro mentioned above, Pierre is surrounded by younger, better players whereas Bourn will not likely lose many AB's.

But, it's quite possible that Bourn is sent down to 8th in the lineup, and this could really put a hamper on his run/SB production. This has been a horrible start for Bourn, and I hope he works his way out of it.

If your team is that good at the other cats you can get away with it, I'm in a 10 team H2H in which my opponents drafted speed earlier than I have them valued and I had seen in other drafts and mocks. I'm in 1st place right now with Upton, McLouth, Hart, and Markakis as my only SB threats (I can only start two of the OF's at a time because I also have Holiday). You can win in a H2H while being very weak or even not competitive in a given cat.
