Stomach punch losses (1 Viewer)

Has any NFL team ever handed its fans as many gut punches as the Buffalo Bills? I should be used to it by now, but they find ever more inventive ways to lose games. Loving the Bills really sucks right now.

Bengals down?
They're up there, but I still think that Buffalo not only has more, but has more gut wrenching ones as well. Montana to Jones was bad, but I think Wide Right was worse. The Bills also have the Music City Miracle, several last second early season losses to the Jags in the last few years, te MNF game against the Cowboys, Losman's fumble against the Jets last year and now this. Those are just the ones off the top of my head.

I'm biased as a Bills fan, but I think you're right. Gut punch losses is probably the only category that the Bills will ever be #1 in the NFL in.

My posts from the game thread:

-Real Bills fans know better than to celebrate before the clock hits 00:00 Fear the gut punch.

-I was fully prepared for this, predicted it, and still feel sick to my stomach. FML

-For the record, I don't think it was Bills fans that were calling this game with 5:00 left. We know better.

-My buddies and I have a good humor about it, but when you stop to think about it, the Bills really do have an amazing number of truly awful losses, and they are almost always in big games. It's enough to make a man superstitious.

The silver lining is that your team has been in positions noone expected them to be in, and made things very interesting.

You Bills Fans make me laugh. Try being a Lions Fan. They are now 1-24 in their last 25, including a 17 game losing streak. And it's going to get worse.

I had a nice back-and-forth text conversation with a friend after the Jackson TD."A lot of time left.""It's not over""We were at the dallas game"yep...

Yea i feel bad for you guys man...my brother is a die hard bills fan and when jackson scored he told me and my buddy that he gave the bills an 85% chance to blow the game. Me and my friend were telling him he was nuts and sure enough the blew it. That's 3 MNF games in the last 3yrs. I don't think anyone gets as many bad breaks as you guys do. By the way, I ####### hate the patriots and i hope the jets kick the #### out of them next week.

Wow I feel for the Bills fans you guys out played them tonight. Just hope TO does not go crazy and you will be fine if you keep playing like that.

loss <> stomach punch lossand i'll concede that the lions are a much worse franchise than the bills.

MNF 3 years running now. 2 years ago they blow it vs.Cowboys, last year the Cle K hit like a 56 yarder? to go ahead and then Lindell misses a 46 yarder to end the game. Now McKelvin decides make his case for football follies. Brutal.

Yeah, I'm watching the game (not a bills fan) and thinking how are they gonna blow it?

When McKelvin steps 1 yard out of the end zone I'm thinking this is it. 20 something yards later he confirms it.

How in the world does he think it's a good idea to fight for an extra yard at the end?

Is he really that stupid? wow.

I have nothing but sympathy for Buffalo fans. Nobody deserves this. Just wow.

Yea it's sick...i think it was a 58 yarder. Even though i'm a dolphins fan, I find myself rooting for the bills vs all the other afc east rivals bc they can't catch a break. It's probably bc my brother is a bills fan and i feel bad for him but it's still tough to watch.

Dempsey's 63 yarder hurt pretty bad. No offense to anyone intended here, but even a guy with half a foot has a shot at making a long field goal when the rushers are laughing to hard to bother trying to block it.

Bears Dave Williams running back a kickoff in OT - fastest OT ever.

Monty Clark praying before Eddie Murray's FG miss.

Starting and ending the season by getting embarrassed by the Redskins (one for the thumb season).

Lomas bragging that its not a question of will we win, but by how much...it wasn't as close as the 58-37 score would indicate.

Plenty of others. Not all were a stomach punch. In fact, after awhile they stop hurting at all, because you just don't care anymore.

No texting stories 'cause I turned my phone off immediately after the fumble. Figured we maybe had a 50% shot at it after 24-13, so to me it's not nearly as bad as Dallas or even Denver 2yrs ago. Guess I'm either numb to it or just don't care as much as long as a loser like Jauron is heading up the team.

I think we have the Bills beat (certainly if you count all the teams in the city of Cleveland), but dear lord tonight was awful. Feel really bad for you guys. What a way to lose a game...

I'm a life long Bills fan from Buffalo, and I almost expected the collapse. What's even stranger is that it didn't really crush me like so many other Buffalo heartbreaks. Acquired immunity?

I do not believe in the team with the present coach and front office. Its almost as if the worst it gets...the closer we are to getting a real coach and a real front office. Then I wake up and realize that Ralph is still the owner. He will not pay a HC as much as Snyder pays his Coordinators.

Could be worse. You could be a Cardinals fan (I'm not, btw). That Bears loss a couple years ago was as brutal as anything you've endured. And imagine your first (and let's admit it-- only for a while) Super Bowl appearance ending with the defense collapsing as you give up your hard-fought lead.

I was at Tampa Stadium the night Norwood missed that kick. It wasn't a gimme. In the other losses you were blasted by a better team. But the Cards had a real chance to win-- just stop one team one time. Couldn't do it, and now back to mediocrity with nothing to show for it. I think the Bills actually did earn some long-term respect by making four Super Bowls. The Cardinals will be seen as a fluke-- a decent team in a crappy division who got hot for a while in the playoffs.

The Lions are pretty bad as well. There are worse things than being a Bills fan. This is just a tough night, but it hasn't cost you a playoff spot or anything. The "gain" from this kind of win isn't as high as you think. It just hurts not to have it now. 0-1 isn't a big issue.

Al Davis syndrome. At least Ralph isn't coaching his coaches in front of players, and taking meetings with players only to call coaches to the carpet for what the players said.

Titans/Oilers

Had Denver beat in Mile-high until Elway converts consecutive 4th downs

Beating Buffalo 35-3 and lose

Viniatieri kicks a 44 yarder in subzero temperatures where the ball was hardly moving

1 yard short in the SB after giving up a bomb late in the game

Domnated Ravens and lost in 2000 (Ravens completed 5 passes in the whole game)

Dominated Ravens and lost in 2008

Right after it was 24-13, all I was thinking about was not that the Bills were going to win - but how are they going to find a way to lose this game. They did. However - as bad as this was - there have been worse losses recently. Houston losing to the Colts at Houston was way worse than this one (the Sage Rosenfels helicopter game). The Bengals loss I think was even worse this weekend than this one. They just weren't on MNF.

Huge difference from beating the Pats Away to losing like that and losing your MLB in the process - With the AFC east schedules this year 0-1 is a big issue considering you won the game already - Next week will show a lot.I felt it in my stomach a bit for the Bills and as a Jets fan I've had my share so, I'm quite familiar with the feeling.

Well, if there's a "path" to the Bills getting to the playoffs, I don't think beating the Patriots at home had to be part of it. The gain was a win (obviously) and buckets of confidence. But there's no reason the Bills can't beat the teams they're supposed to beat, pay back the Patriots at home and still reach the post-season. I'm not saying they'll do that, but losing on the road to the Patriots hurts because they should have won-- not because they needed the game.
