What led to Harrison's spike was Ellis Hobbs, for some unknown reason, talking #### to Harrison after breaking up a pass earlier. Harrison was open 24/7 and Hobbs should call in sick for film review this week.

T Brown's unsportsmanlike penalty was pretty bush. He tossed the ball back to the sideline official after a short catch and I have no idea where they got that as unsportsmanlike.

The TD catch by Harrison was simply spectacular.

Harrison does tend to get fired up if a defender starts mouthing off to him. This has happened agaisnt Denver a few years back(pre-Champ bailey--maybe Foxworth?), against Ike Taylor of the Steelers (88 also got an unsportsmanlike against him---GRABBED HIS FACEMASK), the artist formerly known as Will "Peterson" of the NY Giants and now, Hobbs. You can almost see it developing. If Marvin looks back at the defense after any catch and either says something or motions to them, you KNOW something is going down, that he has "disrespected". Then, just sit back and watch the fireworks.....usually a TD of some spectacular sort. :bye:

If Harrison is spiking the ball that tells you how much trash is being talked and also how important the game was. I was laughing when I saw him do that. Hobbs was getting beat all night long and still was yapping.

That Hobbs chose to start yapping at Harrison was all the more stupid as Harrison had several plays where he was w - i - d - e open for several of his catches and Hobbs (and Samuel) were giving Harrison and Wayne 10 yards of cushion.I'm not sure if it was shown on TV, but after 5-7 yard quick inside slant where Hobbs broke up the pass, Harrison turned back to Hobbs and they were seperated. No punches thown or shoving, but obviously Hobbs fired Harrison up pretty good.

marvin's call was MAYBE warranted, though i didn't think spiking was worth a flag...but brown's was absolutely f'n disgraceful. no reason for that flag. brown's one of the most unassuming, classy players in the league, never talks #####. regardless, i think both dungy and belichick have beefs with the shaky officiating last night.

I agree on Brown's call. I have NO IDEA what the ref saw, other than that there was a Colt near/beside the sideline ref and they might have thought that he was throwing the ball at the Colt.

I recall Marvin acting up in other games against NE. I think they really get under his skin. Well, that, and the fact NE always seems to advance further than IND in the playoffs...

If getting under his skin causes a couple TDs and 100+ yds, yap away you bonehead defenders. :)

The spike sucked because of the penalty but I think - at least I hope - that was unintentional. If not, then it was uncharacteristically stupid of him.

:goodposting: I've never seen a call quite like that 4th down spot before. No measurement? Criminal. Pats lucked out there...And the illegal contact penalties on the Pats were very shaky. The call on Mike Vrabel in particular was completely ridiculous.

Al and John booth completely biffed this one, and apparently you did too- The call on the field was Illegal hands to the face (and you could clearly see Clark's helmet dislodged by Vrabel's strike from the rear view provided), and not Illegal contact.per the NFL:

3-8-NE31 (13:44) (Shotgun) P.Manning pass incomplete deep right to M.Harrison (E.Hobbs).

PENALTY on NE-M.Vrabel, Illegal Use of Hands, 5 yards, enforced at NE 31 - No Play.

One of his top 5 catches in my memory! Just sick!!!!
It was no Nat Moore "Helicopter" catch in '84/'85 against the Jets.It was a terrific throw and spectacular catch, all kidding aside. Wayne does not make that catch.
How many in history make that catch? Seriously? How many have had the agility, eye-hand coordination, concentration, and footwork, to make that catch? Not many. I'm not saying he is the only one, but not many more could do that!

It is a rule that if you toss the ball after the play, it cannot hit an opposing player, intentional or not. That way, the ref is not left trying to figure out intent. The ref actually apologized to Brown later on in the game.

At least that's what I heard on the radio today.

So, Terrell Owens gets lambasted for costing his team 15 yards after a TD but Marvin Harrison is applauded.

Who is applauding Harrison for spiking the ball? The ball inadvertantly hit a Patriot player. He got flagged. End of story.TO knowingly goes out of his way to do a selfish act. He gets penalized. Both cost their teams. TO did his selfishly, Marvin's accidentally hit another player. Both silly, but different!

You spike the ball in betwen the feet of two defenders, where else is the ball going to go? Harrison is made out to be a warrior who took out years of frustration with one spiked ball while Terrell Owens is just, well, TO.I'm just sayin'...

TO's was clearly premeditated. Harrison's was not. That's what it comes down to, IMO.

The only reason it was at their feet is because they were still stunned he made that catch.I'm just sayin... :P

As I clicked on this I was envisioning a late-game last-ditch drive in which the Colts needed to spike the ball but Peyton was not getting up to the line fast enough so Harrison got under center and spiked the ball to stop the clock.

Needless to say this thread becomes very, very boring when one comes in with expectations like mine.
