Storms in Dallas & Chicago? (1 Viewer)

The weather page for my FF site says heavy thunderstorms and winds very strong.

May have to re think my line-up if its THAT BAD.

Anyone nearby to give a recent report?

TKS in advance.

In DFW, storms blew through overnight, but currently nothing. Another round could still happen by game time.

Chicago: Currently seeing s few showers west of chicago diminishing. Should see some sunshine, but more development of storms is likely around 2-3pm. Winds will be rather strong out of the South at 10-20 mph, with a few gusts to 25-30 mph possible. Right now winds are out of the southwest at around 10 mph sustained, with overcast skies and a temperature of 70 degrees.

Dallas: A cold front combined with a developing area of low pressure will produce scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, becoming more numerous by evening. By the start of the game, showers and thunderstorms, some strong to severe, will be in the area. Front will stall out overnight, with more rain and storms possible.

This is who I work for, if you're wondering...

DFW? Don't know what this means...? Could you explain.

Can they close the roof in Dallas?

DFW stands for Dallas-Fort Worth (it's also the three-letter acronym for the airport here). I do not believe the roof is retractable.

It did rain last night but it looks clear at the moment.

No - they can't close the roof in Dallas. There are strong storms forecasted for late afternoon and into the evening. The problem is that the DFW metroplex is so sprawling that when the local weathermen "forecast" they are covering such a huge area. So it could pour in downtown Dallas and little could happen at Texas Stadium in Irving (or vice versa).Best guess based on the forecasts I am seeing and the way it looks and feels outside right now - there's going to be some serious rain.

Yes, this wont be your typical Dallas summer time thunderstorm situation where is storming hard in Ft. Worth, and sunny and 95 in Dallas. This is all associated with a cold front, so the focus pf precipitation will be over a large area, which will include all of the DFW Metroplex...

I'm in Dallas (Lake Highlands area). It rained early this morning but the sun is out now. I doubt we will get more rain but if we do, it will blow over quickly.

Wow, I thought everyone who lived in the DFW area, as well as anyone know uses a football forum, would know that they say that Texas Stadium has an open roof so God can watch the Cowboys play. I guess not.

I don't foresee wind as too much of a factor as the design of Texas Stadium is such that there's what I would call a partial roof. The hole in it is basically the size of the field, so there is some coverage for the seats. So the open roof is smaller than other completely roofless stadiums. I would think that would mean there's less opportunity for wind to have an effect.

I live ten miles north of the stadium. Right now it's nice and partly cloudy.

Bottom line, I wouldn't worry too much about the DFW weather.

If it rains in DFW, does that help the offense? I know it does in snow? How does this affect the QBs and RBs?

looks like a beautiful day here in Chicago
Yes, beautiful now, but forcast is 40% for strong storms at 3:00pm up to 70% at 6:00pm Looks like the game will start out nice, and the storms could be here by the end of the game.http://www.weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/...Link_undeclared

Are you sure about that? It says the forecast was last updated "Sunday, Sep 17, 10:14 AM Central Daylight Time", but there is no 10 or 11 am forecast.Regardless, there won't be any players on the field at 6pm EDT or 6pm CDT.

how concerned should i be about starting roy williams in 20 mph wind? how much can that hurt a QB pass?
I'm about 10 minutes away from Soldier Field and there's no wind here right now. Things might be worse down there, but I doubt it's going to be that bad.

actually what will probably happen is through the course of the game, the winds will get stronger as the cold front gets a bit closer and storms start to develop. I don't have any observations from near Soldier field, but Midway airport is reporting a 12 knot wind (14 mph or so) and O'hair is reporting 15 knot winds (17-18 mph)...I'm just the messenger
