Strategy from the 5th Pick? (1 Viewer)

I remember a couple of these from last year... so I thought I'd start one up.

Normally, I love the 5 spot because it allows me to dictate positional runs and jump all over players that slip past 1/2 round past their ADP. But honestly, I think the 5th pick sucks this year. More specifically, in a 10-team league I feel like there is a significant talent dropoff in the 3rd/4th rounds this year (at picks 25/36) and that makes the 5th pick something of a no-man's land.

In the 1st I like going with one of /Gore/Addai/Westbrook(if PPR) and coming back with either a top WR or a Mcgahee/MJD/Portis. I tend to lean towards a RB here because the 3rd round presents decent value at WR whereas the only RBs available are like T. Jones/Edge/Cadillac and maybe Benson if you're really lucky.

In the 4th I like grabbing the best available RB/WR, and try to grab either DWill/AP somewhere in the middle rounds.

Any thoughts? Any specific strategies that you guys have had from the 5 hole?

In PPR, I like RB/WR/WR/RB/RB .... if I was to stay rigid. I try to be flexible. But, the 2nd round WRs like TO, Harrison, Wayne, Fitz, etc should outproduce the 2nd round Rbs by a good margin. In addition, the 3rd round WRs should be good as well. In the 4th and 5th, I would look to the tier of RBs like Jacobs, Lynch, and maybe Peterson drops. Much depends on the starting requirements.

I would suggest using the Draft Dominator and run several mock drafts to see who might be available and which choices you will have to make. You can look at the team's strengths and weaknesses each way.

short answer - just take the best available player. youre thinking to hard. follow your cheat sheet and pay attention to who your opponents have already taken. works for me anyway.

it happens every year in every draft, there's always players that drop to you , you have to decide though what your team needs . I generally play it safe early making sure I'm covering all my starting positions , trying to maximize my points from these players and then a few "Homerun" picks later.Depends where you pick too, I've never picked first or last but would imagine that I would have to make some riskier picks based on the number of players gone between picks.

Would you really pick TO over a guy like Mcgahee if he was there?
In some PPR leagues, definitely yes. Much depends on starting lineups. A team of:GoreTOHarrisonPetersonJacobs GallowayFred TaylorThis team could be very good in PPR leagues.
