Finished S2 of You and really liked it. Thought it was better than S1. Also funny in different ways. Really interesting at times.

Finished S3 of Outlander and was really disappointed. Liked S1/2 quite a bit (a few episodes were some of the most disturbing TV I’ve watched) despite being skeptical I’d like it because of the source material (romance novels). S3 seemed to lose most of what I enjoyed about 1/2. Thought it was mostly boring overall and incredibly boring for a few episodes (how many variations of “Sassenich, I dinna ken how I could live without you” and associated sentiments can one stand?) I think Claire is stunning but the constant bed scenes and declarations of love became annoying (and I guess what I initially expected when beginning the series and was pleasantly surprised at its absence).

And instead of the queen, we've tapped into Lost in Space s2...even though S1 rubbed me the wrong way (Parker Posey plot device). So obviously don't listen to me.

Eta. 1st ep got to an interesting place to entice me to ep2 at least.
I enjoyed the second season. If I was to pick nits, my random quibble would be that cheating to get the one kid on the “mission” is super-bad, but  everyone is TOTALLY FINE with consigning the bulk of humanity to death because they suck at standardized tests. Although, I suppose if you were one of the in-crowd, maybe that is to be expected.

Enjoyed this as well.  Didn't think it was Golden Globe caliber, but don't have a problem with the nomination.

Murphy has been underappreciated by the critics for quite some time IMHO.
I don't know about that. he had the Nutty Professor/Klumps movies that were pretty well regarded. he did some VO work in - Shrek, Mulan - that did well too. However, there were a string of films that were pretty forgettable. He was in "Dreamgirls"  and that did well but since 2000 it was uneven output from him. This was a good reminder of how immensely talented he is.

Blew through this (The Detectorists) in like 3 days. The subtle Simon and Garfunkel musical queues were hilarious. The theme song was perhaps a little overused, but then I binged it all pretty quickly, so it was going to be heard a lot anyway.

Definitely left wanting more, but I thought it wrapped up nicely.

For some reason I couldn’t find it on Netflix, and had to watch it through Cinema, which was missing the Christmas special from season 2- found that online though and watched on a iPad.
Was looking to start this with the wife tonight. Gonzo.

just finished The Witcher......that type of show is right up my alley.

The time jumping in the last two episodes kinda threw me off. totally confused the wife...

Almost like it needs another watch.

Yennefer = hot A.F.

I'll second that.  Took a while to get into it...my wife and I almost stopped watching after the first episode, which we both found just so-so.  The show gets better and better.  The 2nd to last episode is just unbelievable - so many complicated things tied together so well.  It's everything that I hoped and expected the end of Game of Thrones to be, in the sense that it answered all of my questions and then went beyond that.
I'll have to stick with it. I've only watched the first few and I didn't have the desire to finish it.

"Living With Myself" binge today. I like Paul Rudd, like most of the world, so this was not a challenge. It was really interesting conceptually with really fine writing. It was clever, funny, and interesting. The problem with the series is that it changed course in the final episode. It lost its nerve and didn't go as dark as it should. It would have been a really novel noir film but went completely different direction.

Really?  I never watched it because it looked dumb given the character is an animated talking horse. Will Check it out.
It certainly has its dumb/goofy elements, but it has some incredible writing and the whole path of the series does a great dive into human psychology and so many sly pop-culture references and sight gags that it's hard to keep up.

Didn't really enjoy Don't xxxx with Cats.

The overly dramatic music over nearly every single scene got irritating fast. And do I need to see constant closeups of Facebook pings? dumb

Almost at the end of season 2 of The Expanse - this show is really good so far. It's costing me reasonable bed times.
Oh, you've got some good stuff to look forward to.

I just finished season 4 and so, so looking forward to season 5 (I read the books so I know it will be a KICK ### season). Lots of good stuff to come!!!!!

I started a thread on See, the Jason Mimosa post-apoc show on apple tv, but don't know that it needs one.

Anybody watching?
Wrapped it up.

For how much money was likely spent on this, aside from great location shots- it's a mess. The blind conceit ends up being just...dumb.

Can't recommend it. Maybe fans of The 100 might enjoy some of it...it almost hit some moments, but I don't think could get past a flawed concept.

I am jealous. Wish I could erase my memory and rewatch this whole series. Not sure if it is the best show I have ever watched, but it is up there. So good

How closely do they follow the books?

I thought one of the pods said even S1 blurs this as there are characters like UN lady (not going to try to spell it) being in it, but not showing up until book 2.

I have books 1-3 at home, and I think I am getting the next 3 as a gift soon and the plan was to read them after getting through S4.

Everybody involved with don’t #### with cats should be checked into a mental institution.
Kind of agree. I've only watched the first episode but all three main people are a bit crazy. The guy trying to track him down obviously lives alone and is downright scary.

I thought Books 1 and 2 were pretty close tp season 1 and 2, they even kept some of the dialogue, at least with the crew of Rocinante. The character of Drummer is a mix of several one offs and Ashford has been extensively reworked. Avarasarala is beefed up and there is a bit about an election in S4 that I don't remember from the books. They've also beefed up Bobbie Draper and moved her a lot closer to the action after S2 (the bit about her seeing the ocean I don't remember). How many spoilers can I drop here. I'd say for an adaptatin they are very close to the books, but obviously not everything is verbatim. The books are very, very good.

When s4 dropped I binged seasons 1-3. So good....

ETA: I should say "re-binged"

I got through 3-4 episodes of season 1 of The Expanse and just didn't get the love. What am I missing?

Great earlier Sword and Scales podcast episode about the gay psycho killer guy.

It was a while ago, but I think I also had to slog through the fitst half of season 1. I remember enjoying it, but not loving it. They really started hitting their stride in season 2

One of the greatest shows ever. Do yourself a favor and get through at least 3-4 more episodes. It's elite tier TV. And subsequent seasons don't falter.

fwiw, I don't think either are elite upper tier, but I've liked both a lot. Although this latest season of peaky blinders went off the rails for me- completely overwrought in a csi Miami David Caruso kinda way. Still looked great.

I tried Peaky Blinders a few years ago and couldn't get past episode 1.  What am I missing?
I'm not a fan of the series much at all. I enjoy Cillian Murphy in pretty much anything else but this was a waste. The premise, I suppose, is novel but it's just pretty cookie cutter otherwise. I watched S1 and started S2 before giving up the ghost here.

Yeah I might need to try again with this suggestion.  I got 3 episodes in and was so frustrated I couldn’t understand anything I gave up.  Don’t want to have to read my TV, but man everyone seems to love this show.

This was my frustration too.  I guess I will try with subtitles.

Started the Apple show, For All Mankind- alternative reality space race. So far, completely enjoyable- liking it quite a bit.
