Just started The Queen's Gambit

One episode in and completely hooked. Looks like a fantastic show. Made me go look at reviews and RT has it at 100%.

7 episodes and I have a feeling I'll blow through it this weekend.

Take a gander if looking to start something. Looks exceptional.

Funny, we just watched the first one tonight too. Yeah...I'm a sucker for child prodgy stories and this first episode was well done. Definitely in.

Finished this last night and really enjoyed it.

A few episodes into Ratched.

Not terrible, but not very good either.

Trying my best to not let it affect my viewing, but it's hard to understand how this is in anyway based off of the character Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest.

Another vote for Ted Lasso. This show seems right on time for 2020. A breath of fresh air really, with it's main theme of optimism, while still having an undercurrent of angst and heartbreak. Couldn't stop watching it.

And the owner of the team does something for me. I would like to do things with her.

We're a few more into it...definitely enjoyable. Will be interesting to see how she transitions from naive prodigy to where she is in the opening scene of the series.

Wife had us watch this a couple weeks ago. Settings and stuff were good but the dialogue and plot were a mess. It was somewhat entertaining but more like American Horror Story Asylum2 than a Nurse Ratched origin. The puppet torture/porn scene was completely ridiculous. Luckily I have about 2 years before she has us watch season 2.

Just remembered I late nighted To the Lake, a Russian pandemic show. It's ok. Decent and recommended for fans of that apocalyptic genre, with some nice shot sequences (looks like they had fun with some of visuals and editing) that help it elevate a little. I also enjoyed the rustic ruskie winter and casting...nice slice of life I haven't seen before. Nudity and sex within. No zombies, but fits into TWD universe in terms of the breakdown of society in response to the situation.

Puppet torture porn scene?  Any ide which episode?  Cant say I recall seeing something like that yet.

Watched the first episode of How to with John Wilson on HBO. Sepinwall had a good review of it. A bit bizarre and awkward — documentary style that mostly plays off some social awkwardness by Wilson, and mixing script with B-roll footage type stuff. But it was laugh out loud funny at times.

I'm a cable guy. My Netflix and prime used to be on my xbox. Now it's all on my x1 box.

I don't have a roku, fire stick, smart tv, I need an xbox app or x1 app
Hopefully soon?

I would recommend grabbing a Firestick at some point.  Easy to use, was just $30 on Prime Day, and then can bring with you if you travel, etc.

When you stay in a hotel or visit someone, you can just carry the firestick and plug it into the TV.  Sure, you can watch on your phone or tablet or whatever, but it gives you the chance to watch on a TV pretty easily.

can you download..... anything... to a firestick?

Finished haunting of bly.  Good but seems like they tried to pack too much backstory into it. Dont overthink it. Just have a nice little ghost story with more scares.

Horrible. I remember the first one being laugh out loud funny. This one not so much.
I heard a reviewer say "It's maybe not as FUNNY as the first one, but it's MORE IMPORTANT" which = "political".  I'd probably still laugh out loud, but I don't need a friggin message.  I'm not interested in art.  I'm interested in movies, dorks.

I finished this last week , i agree it was ok and your description.
was hoping for more when i picked it .

After finishing that series , i started La Revolution
La Révolution is a 2020 French-language supernatural drama series produced for Netflix starring Doudou Masta, Julien Sarazin and Ian Turiak.

The last few minutes of Bly Manor were so beautiful it kind of made up for how mediocre the rest of the show was. Nice ending though.

Count me as another enjoying The Queen's Gambit.  Watched the first 3 episodes with the wife and daughter last night and we all really like it so far.

Same here.  Watched the first two episodes last night.

Edit:  I tried to keep it vague, but I'd rather not spoil anything.

:hifive:  Going to start it tonight

Was watching Barbarians and it's just dreck, turrible. Might skip tot the end to watch the battle but the build up has been #### so far.

Thanks, I'm a chess player, and more specifically a queens gambit player. So I'll be looking for some accuracy on the chess move but I assume the story has way more to do with things other than chess?
I know how to play chess, but I'm no expert.  And yes, they talk a lot about openings, strategies, etc. that are over my head.  I'm assuming it's all legit though.  And yes, it's a drama that covers a lot more than just chess.  The other big part of the story so far is drug/alcohol addiction.

Watching arrested development .  Never saw season 4 or 5 ...and don't remember everything from season 1-3 so decided to start over

We loved Hill House, but wow, was Bly boring. It was slow paced and really devoid of many scares.  Peter's accent was really hard to understand--my wife kept saying, "What did he say?" I was really hoping they would have incorporated the doll house more into the story. I really agree with your point of them just trying too hard with the backstories.

Hill House was fantastic.  It kinda makes me not want to watch Bly Manor.  Nowhere to go but down.
I enjoyed Bly. It's nowhere near the level of Hill, but I found it enjoyable and worth the watch. Pacing and/or backstories didn't bother me. Some good acting and art direction.

Oh snap.  Nurse Ratched  and her lady are sitting in a puppet theater.  I have to pause for a while but will be sure to provide a full report upon viewing.
