Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (22 Viewers)

I am enjoying DareDevil for the most part. I think Foggy is annoying and I don't like the way he constantly refers to Hells Kitchen. I never read the comics.

Made it half an episode of Derek and I love Gervais.
When the first episode ended I looked at my wife and said I wasn't sure if I liked that. She was out.

After watching the 2nd, I got hooked. Not sure why. Not arguing that the 2nd was that much better or different, but I was able to get more engaged in the show.
Had it not been for the actor that played Kev, I would have been out on Derek.

Two more new Netflix shows next month. One looks just awful (or at least for a different demographic). Two women (Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin) have their husbands leave them for each other. Ugh.

The other looks moderately interesting, Between. New approach in that they are not hosting all new episodes at once.

Question on Daredevil - this is in the same "universe" as the Avengers and such, correct? The events taking place in the show are suppose to be after what happened in the Avengers movie? To fully get the plot, is there anything that should be known or understood from any other shows or movies beforehand?
Daredevil and the Avengers are both part of the Marvel Universe but that's about the end of the crossover.

I don't know of any interactions with Daredevil and the Avengers in the comics, Daredevil is kind of on his own from what I know.

There is a documentary about the Kink.com studios that's unreal/fascinating. The upside-down scene where she's counting them off is :jawdrop:

Also quite a bit of gay stuff, just FYI.

A few episodes into Daredevil and here are my observations.

1. The guy that plays Fuzzy or whatever is absolutely terrible in every way.

2. Vincent Donofrio plays "socially retrarded guy" better than most anyone.

3. Don't ever put a bra on Rosario Dawson. EVER.

Otherwise it's just meh...I'll give it a few more episodes.

Spartacus is awful. Can't believe I gave it two entire episodes, utter dreck.
Still tongue or forever have it silenced.
Nothing about it is good. The acting is terrible. The dialogue is a joke. The fight scenes have been done better in movies...movies with the same exact storyline, but better. The blood spatter is laughable and whoever pitched that idea is almost as dumb as the guy who approved it. The green screen backgrounds are terrible and obvious.

Just started watching "The 100". Ep1 and 2 were OK, but Ep3 season 1 got me hooked.

Not only did Jasper recover, we found out it was Clarke's mom that ratted on her dad and then little Charlotte, damn that girl is nuts!

Hated to see Wells go, he was a good guy
I agree the dialouge is clunky and teen angsty sometimes but the other parts are really good

I  this terrible wonderful show.

the early parts are very embarrassingly teen angsty, which rides below the surface throughout the series so far. it's been a fun watch so far as a fan of post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, bsg type stuff. plus, for some reason in the future all women have to wear t-shirts with plunging neck-lines.

I gave up after the 2nd episode so it's good to hear that the show picks up.

Will watch.

I like Daredevil. It's not amazing, but it's pretty good so far. My issue to this point (9 episodes) is that I don't buy Kingpin as being this powerful guy. He seems almost weak with all the angst and stuff, despite the couple of scenes where he is physical.

Lots of hot chicks.

100% agree.

Still good though.

It gets really good. The teenage love stuff fades a bit.

Dollhouse didn't grab me.
You really got to give it time. The end of the series is amazing.
wife watched all the way through, IIRC. I caught episodes here or there. I'll give it another look if/when I've got time.

just signed up for the free month of HBO and started Silicon Valley.
Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge (H-U-G-E) fan of Firefly and I am not trying to insult or diminish it.

Dollhouse is definitely worth it for Wheedon fans but it really is another show of his that showed more potential than it actually delivered, kind of like Firefly. And like Firefly it leaves you wondering more about what could have been rather than thinking about what it actually was.

to be fair, it persists. and there a bunch of "oh come on" moments and plot-lines that on their own would paint this is a completely idiotic show. but it works in spite of those and the gossip-girlish teen crap. the warts don't distract from a fun ride for me, and it's definitely in the new genre of never know who's going to get knocked off that has been current the last couple of years.

Yeah, the 100 is pretty enjoyable but also makes me roll my eyes more than any show, other than the absolutely horrible 2 Broke Girls that I have no idea why I've kept watching.

I'm enjoying "Episodes" and "Departures" on Netflix right now as well.

I watched the first few Episodes and thought it wasn't just not good, but pretty terrible and completely unfunny. It got better?

It's only the first season on netflix but by the end of season 2 The 100 was a can't miss for me.

Does anybody remember the chant that Kane's mom chanted in her religious class? I can't seem to find it anywhere and it seemed touching to me. And it's too bad she didn't survive. She was a nice foil for Marcus

Oh and one more thing. I really dislike Henry Ian Cusick's accent. Should have kept his normal accent

Blue is the Warmest Color - decent foreign movie but too long. However, there is a must-see scenes in this film at around 1:15 into the movie:  :P

Love HBO's dramas, but besides Curb Your Enthusiasm, none of their comedies have pulled me in. Really dislike Silicon valley for whatever reason. Think Veep is ok.

No Eastbound and Down likes?

If you like Eastbound check out Trailer Park Boys. Always passed it over as B-level trash, which it is. But it's hilarious like Eastbound. Very underrated.

No-No: A Dockumentary

http://www.nonoadockumentary.com/

The story of Doc Ellis. After watching the first 30 minutes of this, I turned it off thinking it was rather dull, and figured one day I'd get back to finishing it.

The next day I watched the rest of it and really glad I did.

That first half hour really dragged...even though some of it was an important part of his story, but then the story gets to the no hitter and other stories after that including the day he hit three Reds batters consecutively and the game he hit Reggie Jackson was a funny story....."I was as high as a Georgia Pine".

It's a good watch and worth your time if you can get through the first third.
