Has anyone checked out American Odyssey yet? I watched the 1st episode, not bad, will watch more, but I can see it getting old and played out.
Also check out The Fall. Very very good and Gillian Anderson is smoking hot in it.My wife and I have recently watched Broadchurch, then we moved over to Happy Valley after reading the reviews on here. We were not anticipating it being that good but were pleasantly surprised. Wish they were going to continue the series but I read somewhere that it is over, at least for now. We decided to try Luther after a recommendation from here. Only two episodes in, but again, it looks like a winner. My wife and I were remarking how good the acting is in these shows (for instance the crazy chick in Luther, Alice Morgan, played by Ruth Wilson) and the stories are riveting (perhaps a little out there but not beyond the realm of believing).
We were talking last night and comparing these BBC shows to our American Network crime drama shows - Hawaii 5 - 0, Scorpion, even the CSI's, etc etc - hands down, for at least these three BBC shows, the acting and the content is so superior to our American shows. I imagine the BBC has some ho hum shows as well but we are very impressed thus far!
We have also enjoyed Rectify and The Red Road put out by Sundance I think, but not nearly as much as the BBC shows.
So, thanks for the tips on these shows!
Is this on Netflix? Can't find it.Speaking of 6 eps, Catastrophe season 2 is out. Really entertaining, but the season is way too short.
Amazon Prine only, but the comedy is best in years imo.Is this on Netflix? Can't find it.
that was something that NBC was pimping over the last year. as a rule, i try to avoid old guard media miniseries. Think about their recent attempts like "The Slap" and "Shades of Blue".Has anyone checked out American Odyssey yet? Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 2 is up. Looking forward to diving in over the course of the next week.
Love that flick. Clive is totally money in it. :mancrush:Inside Man
Spike Lee's outstanding heist thriller. Haven't seen this in years, so I forgot how good it was. Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, Willem Dafoe, and Christopher Plummer are perfectly cast. Highly recommended.
Owen is always great. Saw him years ago in Croupier and assumed he'd be a bigger star than he is now.Love that flick. Clive is totally money in it. :mancrush:
Strange he didn't get the Bond role. That said, he's a pretty big star.Owen is always great. Saw him years ago in Croupier and assumed he'd be a bigger star than he is now.
Flick shows Spikes' bona fides.Inside Man

It is because writers think that they are writing to people that have a first grade education. Spell it out for them so they don't miss anything.Beef Ravioli said:We were talking last night and comparing these BBC shows to our American Network crime drama shows - Hawaii 5 - 0, Scorpion, even the CSI's, etc etc - hands down, for at least these three BBC shows, the acting and the content is so superior to our American shows. He woudl have made a great Bond. Owen is a star, but I always thought he had the charisma to be an uber star.Strange he didn't get the Bond role. That said, he's a pretty big star.
It's not as unsatisfying as you might expect. That said, it's a show that was in a "meh" zone for a stretch of both seasons.Been watching Happy Valley... after starting really strong with some nice acting and writing, it's in a "meh" zone for me (around episode 6) and feels like it's heading to something dopey between the kid, lead and his "dad". I'll ride it out, but have low hopes.

I watched the first episode this week. The flow and tone was odd. Masterson had all the best lines, but it's not enough for me to keep watching.Anyone check out "The Ranch?" No? Good, don't bother. This is quite possible the worst sitcom I've ever seen with this amount of "star quality." Aston Kutcher and Danny Masterson also from That 70s Show, Sam Elliot with zero comedic timing, Horrible horrible show but does the perfect job of putting me to sleep at night.
I love that show. And I am having a hard time coming up with a TV show that's ever had better photography.I'm enjoying Master of None quite a bit. I can relate to a lot of his scenarios.
seriously? "ever"?I love that show. And I am having a hard time coming up with a TV show that's ever had better photography.

It's not that this is the funniest show I've ever seen. It's that most comedies are written for 16 year olds and this one isn't.the returned, the killing, got, the americans, etc, etc.
I like the show just fine- doesn't turn my crank too much, but it's good. but I don't remember watching it and thinking "wow- this looks great... never seen a show that looks as good as this". I don't remember even thinking "wow- looks great".
writing is decent, and more adult for sure. It's not that this is the funniest show I've ever seen. It's that most comedies are written for 16 year olds and this one isn't.
I'm prone to hyperbole. It's just that photography is an afterthought in most comedies.writing is decent, and more adult for sure.
writing <> photography.
if you had qualified it for comedies...I'm prone to hyperbole. It's just that photography is an afterthought in most comedies.
Fricken hilarious. ...wife and I both loved it.jdoggydogg said:Brickleberry

I thought that Eastbound and Down had its moments. I think Jody Hill and David Gordon Green have good aesthetics.El Floppo said:if you had qualified it for comedies...

hoop dreams is one of the best docs ever made... astonishing film making and an incredible story.Iverson
I thought it was great. I had never heard the full story behind the bowling alley trial, or the "practice" press conference. I don't think they went out of there way to paint him in a horrible light or in a better light than he deserved. Just told the story and let the viewer come to their own conclusions. It was really good!
Hoop Dreams
I had never seen it and it came up as a recommendation following "Iverson". It was good, but hard to watch because I just kept waiting for one of the two kids to struggle, fail and then be dismissed by those who were willing to use them for their potential success. Sad to read online that years later Agee's father had been shot and killed, and Gates brother had also been murdered. Curious what others thought of the St. Joseph's Coach Pingatore. Seemed like a bit of a ##### to me,....and not necessarily a tough love good kind of #####.
It's long, but I couldn't turn it off.

Love that show.Just about to wrap up viewing S1 of Peaky Blinders. Only 1 episode left.
I'm at the point where I've thought it was okay, but if something BIG doesn't happen soon, I'm going to give up on it.
1. Bojack HorsemanI have a week left before I go back to work. Without reading through all the pages can you guys give me maybe a top 5 list of shows to watch?
