"Berlin Babylon" was good enough to keep me interested in watching more. "Altered Carbon", however, was not. I've been jones'ing for a good sci-fi series though and may give "The Expanse" another try. It's hard for sci-fi shows to be good because they have to tread a thin line in explaining, constructing their universe without grinding the narrative to a halt. It doesn't need to be airtight but "Altered Carbon" was just a mess. Nevermind the acting was pretty horrid.
I finished both. BB maintains a really high level of everything throughout- acting, character and story development, production standards -with only a couple of eye rolly moments. Is ended up being a really good show... One of the better ones in recent years.

AC, cool to look at (even if it's all aped from Blade Runner) and I found the concept interesting (and don't remember seeing before). But the writing, casting and acting just didn't keep up- all three were cringingly weakand enough to make me recommend avoiding unless you're a die-hard sci fi fan, or can't figure out that nudity exists elsewhere in the website.

Finally taking the time to rewatch "The Office" series.  (US)

I loved it when it was on, but thought when it ended, it ended at the right time and there was no need to go back and spend any time watching episodes in syndication.

So glad we're doing it.  So many Laugh out Loud moments through out each episode.  Sometimes the painfully awkward Michael Scott moments get to be a bit over the top, but overall, it's such a winner.  Great cast! Great writing!

For me personally, The Office > Seinfeld.

I can't watch this shot because of him. Everyone else on the show is hysterical to me but the oblivious humor is like finger nails on a chalk board. Same reason I can't watch Parks and Recreation. Amy Pohler is just female Michael Scott. And Modern Family is the same way with the blond woman's husband.

Sat through 5 episodes of this crown garbage.

Boring as a roknrole thread.

Fvking spent 20 minutes of dialogue explaining to the husband why they weren't going to keep his last name.

And lithgow trying to pull off the brit accent... :bye:
Yeah I gave up at around 4 or 5 episodes too. Way too boring. No clue how people can sit through such boring subject matter just for cinematography.
Well, cinematography plus score, acting, dialogue, character development, etc.

On the other hand, there's this sweet show called Two and a Half Men you dudes should check out.

I hate to say it but the nudity may be "too much" in that show. It's a little distracting and unnecessary at times. Ok, we get it it's a decadent society.

I'm on the fence 4 episodes in. I want to like it and it seems like it could be really good at times, but it gets bogged down at times and the acting is pretty atrocious - and when it's two of the main characters that are the most blatant offenders it makes it very tough to sit through. Some of the concepts are interesting but the execution - outside of the visuals - is poor.

Just wait
Finished it up over the weekend. Yea, it was good. When does Season 2 come out?

Was planning on doing another Marvel series but started Altered Carbon. Previously finished Daredevil. When I am done with Altered Carbon which Marvel should I tackle?

Wathed Goodfellas for the 20th time streaming on Netflix. Still great. One of the rarest things: a perfect movie.
Still don't get how this film got the shaft at the Oscars. Dances with Wolves was a good movie, but Goodfellas is one of the best movies of all time. Kostner over Scorcese for best director is just stupid.

Altered Carbon is hot trash.  3 episodes in and I'm not sure yet why I should care about any of these people.  Particularly the lead.  What's his stake in all of this?  i don't get it.

The cop is a smoke show though.  The whole series should be about her.

We rewatched it not long ago and although I don't think it's better than Seinfeld, it holds up really well and is still hilarious. While I thought it went probably a season or two too long, on rewatch, the last seasons weren't as bad as I remembered them. Just a great show.

The only real derivative is the transfer to other bodies and virtual constructs.  Not much intersection beyond that.  I will say that I am disappointed overall with the TV show, they really monkey'd around with the story from the book.  Keeping the same overall theme but changing some characters dynamically.
And that was a huge problem for me

Michael Scott was the best part of the show and it lost a bit when he left but I can agree with Amy Poehler. Never found her funny. Phil on Modern Family was good early on but he, and frankly almost all of the rest as well, have become caricatures of themselves. I actually wish the show would get cancelled but I don't think I'll watch it after this season either way.

I thought everyone else on the show was great, but not him. Jim, Dwight, Toby, the alcoholic, everyone. I could take MS in small doses and sometimes he would crack me up (his favorite pizza restaurant in NYC) but for the most part, ugh. And I appreciate his comedic acting skills to pull that off, but I just can't do it.

I personally really enjoyed Jessica Jones( Season 2 coming out next month :excited: )..
I have Punisher and JJ Ranked as 1 and 1a out of the Marvel shows I've watched on Netflix..

I really need to stop watching the new things they pop out each month and get around to watching Daredevil based on what others have posted here.

Daredevil was solid and really set up Punisher well. I really enjoyed Daredevil (and I very much disliked the comic when I was a kid).

Funny because I felt the same way. When they were on the Network during the run, I remember saying/thinking the last two seasons were almost a chore and I was just watching out of loyalty and to see the resolution. During the rewatch on Netflix I kind of liked some of the new characters they introduced and laughed a bit more.

I never saw The Office when it was on broadcast tv (at the time a high school basketball coach and dad = no tv time). Found it a few years ago on Netflix and binged the whole series in about two months. Started over immediately and got through it again in about a year or so. I am about a third of the way through for the third time but at a much slower pace. I laugh out loud all the time and my wife hates it!

I think that is who Michael Scott is....he makes you cringe with embarrassment with what he says, does and believes.

My least favorite character is Pam. I don’t think she’s a very good actress. Probably biased in that opinion from some other things I have seen her in.

My 16 year old is on his fourth time through the Office.  He will watch nothing but the Office (except sports) straight through. Then he'll ask for recommendations on a new show.  I'll give him a couple, then the next time I see him watching TV, he's started the Office over again.  I think it has ruined him for TV as he just can't seem to enjoy anything as much as the Office.

I agree with the last couple of posts.  The seasons after Michael left aren't nearly as bad as they were reviewed to be when on live.  I can see how they weren't as good as peak Office, but they definitely have their moments and are not unwatchable as people like to claim.

The first half of Season 1 is definitely better than the second half, but I really enjoyed Luke Cage.

I'm with you on Pam. I mean I like her but at a level of maybe a 5. The rest of those guys, non MS, are at a 9 or a 10. She's just sort of meh to me.

Took me a long time to get into the show because of MS character.

Just binged Everything Sucks and I really liked this one

the first ep was a little rough, but it got tons better....

definitely a Freaks and Geeks vibe to it...

Finally watched the last two episodes of Stranger Things season two. Ending was fine but I'm still finding myself pretty disinterested. :sadbanana:
The Who,e season felt like a 10 episode epilogue to Season One for me....it had moments, but kind of let down

Been watching this show on Netflix (originally Showtime) called Episodes.  It stars Joey from Friends playing himself. Surprisingly funny.  I thought it was a new show since it says 2017, but there's already several seasons.
I just finished Episodes a few weeks ago...I really enjoyed this one...

I’m two episodes in and these are my thoughts...

The first half was excellent and the second half was kind of mediocre

For me, the episodes after Jim and Pam get together are not nearly as good as the previous eps.

Still prefer Seinfeld, bu the American The Office is great and definitely on my top 10 all time sitcom list.

The Academy's history of blunders is ridiculous.

I noticed "The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale" while browsing.  I assumed it was a talk show or something, and thought to myself "he's not gonna be any good at that, they should bring back The Soup instead."  Mrs. Funke and I used to LOVE The Soup.

So I started watching out of curiosity, and lo and behold ... it's totally The Soup.  Same premise and shtick and all. They hadn't really found their groove in the first episode, but I assume they will after a couple episodes.  I don't know why they haven't been marketing the return of The Soup or at least making it obvious that's what the show is.  But if you were a fan, good news!

I don't think she has much range. But I loved her in The Office and I thought she nailed that role.

This might be unpopular, but with US The Office, I just didn’t like Jim all that much.

Kind of a meh character

i also thought they should have permanently made Ryan a boss, rather than not knowing what the hell they were doing with him for like 7 seasons

The bosses post-Michael were pretty weak at times. So that's not a bad idea.

this is what i've enjoyed most about it, i think

it hews pretty close to reality whereas most American cop/detective/political thriller type shows and movies are lousy with fantastical scenarios, incredible fight scenes, explosions & death galore. American television/movies tend to have really shlocky dialogue, lots of cheesy unnecessary romance scenes that play out way too long and are totally unnecessary to the story.

and maybe it's just that i'm not accustomed to seeing German people regularly but it's refreshing to see normal looking people in the main roles. everyone isn't a supermodel with a 10 out of 10 physique.

and lastly...... it's not American actors trying out & mangling horrific German accents full of American cliches.

maybe i hate America

Ryan was awful and should have been booted after 1 season.

Agree 100%, I've been rewatching with my kids and once Pam starts talking to the camera more it goes down hill. Especially after she is mean to Michael when he's dating her mom. Once I started not liking Pam she became very annoying. I think she's the weakest character by a mile.

Yes!

With casting, I really don't need to see Julia Roberts or Tom Hanks in a movie again. They're good actors, but enough already. When you watch a movie with lesser known actors or non-actors doing roles, it's just so much more interesting. If an American network decided to cast Babylon Berlin, that older cop would be cast much younger and more handsome. That all these people look real just elevates the material far above your standard fare.

It would be Matt LeBlanc... and they'd make him a hockey coach instead and then call the show Pucks!
