White Lotus 2 finale tonight. Internet is abuzz with predictions.

Anyone know when these become available on HBO Max?
blah. I just don't get the love for this show. It basically goes nowhere and does nothing. It seems like there should be something happening but then nothing happens.
It is a character driven drama / dark comedy. Great settings, music/vibe, and some shock moments. I like the slow development of the story and seeing how they arrive at the end which we already know is bad from the beginning. I understand it won't be everyone's cup of tea.

I got to say I was loving season 2. The finale wasn't quite as good as it was setting up to be but still was a great season IMO.

I had no idea who wrote it but watched the inside the show thing at the end of this season's finale and it was a guy who I mostly knew from being on Survivor and Amazing Race.

Now that season 2 is over, we’re going to fire it up starting Thursday. So pumped - loved season 1!
We’ll see what you think. I bet you’ll want to go to Italy after watching at the very least
She'll just buy a house there. Missed the timing for the joke :kicksrock:

Be interested in your take on S2.

We're only two episodes in so far. Enjoying it, but I'm worried now after reading your and The General's comments on the finale. The woman who plays the Italian owner or manager(?) of the hotel is a fabulous actress, and of course "Chris-to-pher" is, too. And Jennifer Coolidge is a national treasure.

I did like the finale. Don‘t want to say anything else though until you have finished.

I thought the show really starts picking up steam in your next few episodes.

Yeah, the finale had me with more questions and it didn't really wrap anything up...kind of made the whole season meaningless a bit.

It wound up making us make assumptions about certain characters vs being more concrete about it and misses a huge part of the back story with how it ended so we can't really connect the dots. I wasn't expecting that type of show with this based on Season 1 but I did still enjoy it. Not sure how they do a 3rd season now.
I’d think whole new cast or perhaps…SPOILERS…don’t read further if still watching…I’M NOT JOKING…

They have the husband Greg who is the worst character and most ridiculous storyline so I hope not somehow intertwined. The hooker was very popular for a variety of reasons so perhaps she takes her talents to a new locale.

Don't be. I think a number of us don't share their sentiment.

But... I think... that's the point. It's a commentary on the wealthy and how they're priorities change compared to us common folk.

Wife and I currently four episodes into The English. Not at all what we were expecting but it's kept our interest.

I'm two episodes in as well (though I started a 3rd and fell asleep). I'm enjoying it a lot; really think the cinematography is superb. And the music is lovely. I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but it's been a long time since I had a show I was eager to watch.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the hell out of this season.

Great point on the cinematography, too. It's stellar.

Regarding White Lotus 2 - I think there was a comment a page or two back that for me is exactly correct. If you liked season 1, you'll like season 2. They are exactly the same.
I loved both. When I got down to 2 episodes to go I couldn't stop and ended up having a tired day at work because I binged the finale on a weeknight at 2 in the morning. Good acting, clever writing and great settings. And of course, beautiful rich people banging each other and doing things beautiful rich people do. I don't get the concern about answering every question, tying up every loose end or what might come next. Just like the ending of Season 1, there were a ton of unanswered questions and no idea where it would go next, but it was a fun ride.

Was the same for me. We caught up to live by the 4th episode then had to watch week to week. Actually enjoyed the wait but not many shows do I catch on to that are being released weekly.

Don't have anything like that right now.

"Last of Us" on HBO will hopefully be the next!

I just finished episode 5 and things really kick up a notch.
They certainly do. I'm now up to episode 6 which kicks things up much more. I hope they haven't created too much mystery to solve and too few episodes to solve it in. Probably will finish it tonight.
Finished 1899 tonight, and if there's ever a second season I'll certainly watch it. Episodes 7 and 8 revealed a whole lot more, although the episodes themselves had some flaws --- too much time running back and forth in hallways, and too much narration instead of exposition (the only real flaw I found in season 3 of Dark). Still, a solid, creepy show that required thought and held me the whole way through.

Just finished episode 6 and my interest level is on the rise again. But damn they do love those hallway shots, don't they?

Not sure if anyone else watched this, but we just finished Inside Man. David Tennant and Stanley Tucci were great in it but man was it a weird story. Not sure we really liked it by the end, just didn't make a whole lot of sense to me and so many questions were left unanswered.

I also kind of wish they had a few lights, or even candles, on that boat.

I started The Leftovers. What an underrated gem. Only halfway through Season 1 and loving it, and apparently this is the worst of the three seasons.

It doesn't take much these days to shock me, but that one scene involving rocks... Oh my.

It has a dedicated thread around here somewhere and some huge fans (including me). You should check out the thread, though maybe after you've watched so that you don't get any spoilers.

I liked it. It was kind of all over the place, but thought it was worth it.

Speak No Evil (Shudder/AMC+) is a movie about a Danish couple and a Dutch couple vacationing together. For 80% of the movie, it's about the differences between their families, then the last 20% finally matches the ominous music and shots they gave us throughout the movie. There's a scene that made me so angry and had me talking to the TV, and will stick with me for a while - it's the only real horror scene in the movie. I think it's supposed to give the watcher a bit of the feeling of that Bosstones song Someday I Suppose where you wonder if you would have stepped up to act differently... but I think 90% of Americans would. Maybe it's less in Denmark, but man, they're Vikings. Worth watching.

Del Toro Pinocchio on Netflix is pretty to look at but downright horrible. These songs are atrocious, how did they even get made.

That’s enough Pinocchio movies for now me thinks.

Started watching Yellowjacks on Showtime via Hulu.

Finished ep one last night.

Gave up after about 3 episodes. Just too slow for me. Felt like Lost which I also abandoned after a spell.
A friend of mine said the same comparison yesterday 😂

I'll give it a chance.

I wouldn't be opposed to going back to it, but I'm not smart enough to follow non-linear plot lines. I need to follow a bouncing ball and I need that ball to move forward.

This is my gripe with The English.

I tend to watch shows late at night with a glass of wine and/or a moderate amount of recreational THC where I want to shut my brain off and just enjoy. While my wife and I are almost done with the series, I feel like I needed to be taking notes and hyper-focusing as I genuinely don't even know what the "present" time and plot is. It's a cool show, but fully comprehending it is just too much work since the plotline isn't linear.

Well, I'm going to need a new show after White Lotus 2. I'm through episode 5 and can't remember being this excited to put the kids to bed and turn on a new episode. Looking for some recs - feel free to post 'em. If it's got super natural, monsters, ghosts, make believe, I'm out. Dark comedy/drama right in my wheelhouse.

Do you have AppleTV? If so Blackbird needs to be on that list. We just finished Inside Man and it was worth the 4 episode investment just on the acting alone.

I ended up enjoying season 2 of White Lotus. The finale was a letdown. Not bad, just not very satisfying. I'm definitely down for a third season though.

White Lotus is the sort of show that's a lot more fun if you just look at it as a guilty pleasure, like a soap opera for literate people. It has some interesting characters placed in interesting situations. A very large percentage of those situations are full-on cringe, which I really enjoy. Every little thing doesn't have to make sense, and every little plot line doesn't need to be resolved in the most logical manner. Every character gets their own arc, and obvious plot holes are kept to a bare minimum. That makes it better than most shows on television. It's a solid B+ in a world where there's just no excuse to waste your time on anything below a B.

I maintain that this is in large point the point of the show.

I think the show could of worked without the jumping back and forth.

You may very well be right about that. But it doesn't make for the best viewing.

For example . . . [SPOILERS FOLLOW]

[SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS]

I would like to have seen more of a payoff to the grandson's story. I'm sure all of us saw that he was being scammed over the second half of the season, and that could have gone in a bunch of different directions. On the tragic side, maybe it's devastating for him to learn that the hooker isn't actually that into him. He's kind of innocent that way. Or maybe the other men in his life intervene in a helpful direction for once. Or maybe this experience drives him toward the same misogyny that he's grown up around. And so on. Instead, the finale reveals that he pretty much knows that he's being taken for a ride, and his dad knows it too, but they end up being like "Eh, just give her the 50 large" and then nobody does any more than shrug their shoulders when she runs off.

If the point is to show that $50K is NBD to these people, okay I guess that's fine. But that's a pretty anticlimactic payoff. We knew they were rich already because they travelled to the Sicily White Lotus and it was the other characters who were selling their bodies for money. This plot point was resolved in the first 10 minutes of the first episode.

I could make a similar argument about those two couples. I get that the "did they or didn't they?" style of storytelling is being done to make a point about the nature of uncertainty in a relationship and how we choose to manage it. But that's not very exciting. They gave us a crazy story involving sex-starved wives, a husband with an internet porn problem, a DudeBro who's raising his wife's trainer's kids, and a three way with DudeBro and the two hookers. That kind of story needs a real payoff, not a beard-stroking meditation on jealousy culled from black-and-white French cinema.

[ending spoilers here]

In other words, I feel like this show switched genres a bit in E7 and only in E7. The first six episodes were Melrose Place For HBO Viewers and then the last episode decided to be try to be subtle/profound. It's a little disconsonant IMO. (Edit: To reiterate, I'm not saying that the finale was bad. It just could have been better.)

It's a solid B+ in a world where there's just no excuse to waste your time on anything below a B.
I maintain that this is in large point the point of the show.
You may very well be right about that. But it doesn't make for the best viewing.

The DudeBro's wife was most definitely not sex starved, she was just ok with him sleeping around because she was doing the same....an open marriage without the agreement.
Also, I agree I would have liked some more concrete answers/consequences. Seems the only consequence was for Tanya :sadbanana:

Started watching Yellowjacks on Showtime via Hulu.

Finished ep one last night.

Gave up after about 3 episodes. Just too slow for me. Felt like Lost which I also abandoned after a spell.
A friend of mine said the same comparison yesterday 😂

I'll give it a chance.

I wouldn't be opposed to going back to it, but I'm not smart enough to follow non-linear plot lines. I need to follow a bouncing ball and I need that ball to move forward.
What if there is no ball?
