Finished up George and Tammy on Hulu and really liked it. I'm not a fan of country music, although I don't hate it, and I knew nothing really about this couple but it had some incredible acting from the leads and was definitely worth checking out.
Don't believe anything about George Jones that you saw on that series. Check out Cocaine & Rhinestone Podcast. Season 2 is all about Jones , his music and the people in his life along the way. This is the definitive story of George & Tammy and it is not much like what you are seeing on this miniseries.

“The Last of Us” starts up Sunday. This should be great.

I loved the original game, so this is on my radar but I'm going to wait for viewer reviews. Video game adaptations have mostly been horrible, and I have a low opinion of the people in charge of the gaming IP. Then again, it's HBO and they typically bring it. I wouldn't be surprised if was the next House of the Dragon and I also wouldn't be surprised if it was the next Rings of Power.

Agreed on video game being the source material is def suspect. But, the "Chernobyl" director being on board is a great sign I hope. Fingers crossed on this one.

Dopesick (2021) - Streaming on Hulu - 6 Episodes

This was from a couple of years ago, so most here may have already watched it. The dramatic series that looks at the investigation into Purdue Pharma, the development of Oxycontin and the results it had primarily in a Virginia mining community, but also it's overall impact on the nation.

I can't say enough about this series. It was GREAT! It wasn't great, like "The Wire" or "The Sopranos" was great. But for a dramatic series based on a real life historical story, this was phenomenal.
Each character was played in an understated way, that was so real to life and not over the top.
If I had any criticism, it was that whoever was responsible for the wigs and toupee's on the set went a little over board. hahahaha.
And not any fault of the production itself, but the end result of the real life investigation was somewhat of a letdown. I was really cheering for the good guys and hoping they could get the end result they were hoping for. And you really can't help but cheer for the community members that are battling their addictions, and hurting for them when they relapse.

I can't recommend this series enough. It was really great! Really well done! I'm curious what others thought about it who may have seen it.

After having watched this series and reflecting on the performance of Michael Keaton, it makes me wish that someone would redo the movie "Spotlight" and make it into a dramatic six part series. It seems like a big enough story that could easily fill six hours of story telling.

The Rig (2023) - Streaming on Prime - 6 Episodes

I have no idea what I watched.
A cross between "The Abyss", and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" ? Maybe? I don't know.
I'm not a Sci Fi guy, so don't take my word for any of it. Of course there are some who watch it and might say it wasn't sci-fi at all.
Sounds interesting - thanks

97% percent on RT - if they do a season two it'll probably cover the second game which is probably one of the most gripping yet will leave you feeling numb after consuming

(I loved both games but it's far from World War z or resident evil. It delves into themes that might not be suitable for a younger audience)

Supposedly they have plans for 3 seasons and done. Seasons 2 & 3 are supposed to cover TLOU2.

Metacritic at 84 at the moment which is a very high score.

I am enjoying she hulk on Disney+ more than I thought I would

Has a fleabag like humor to the show and Maslaney kills it - loved her on Orphan Black

I turned it off 30 min in. Horrible
Probably a good idea. We stuck it out and it just kept getting more and more frustrating as it went further and further into the Three's Company misunderstanding/compounding stupidity spiral into even more stupidity.

Looks like Mazin from Chernobyl is involved. Did EvilGrin have connection to him?

Looking forward to the show though. I enjoyed what I played of the game, but, I think I died around 50 times in a row at some spot and eventually just moved on with my life; so, did not complete it. (I’m not that big on video games to begin with, and obviously not good at them.) I guess I’ll find out what happens.

The Menu (HBO). Worth a watch, if for no other reason than because the casting was really well-done. Every character in the film is basically archetype, and they did a great job populating the cast with high-quality character actors who fit their particular archetype extremely well. That said, the story isn't very good, the "message" is way too heavy-handed, and White Lotus does literally everything better. 3/5.

I'm becoming addicted to The Chef's Table. It shouldn't be nearly as captivating as it is (like way, way too heavy handed on the poetry of food) but man if I don't finish every episode realizing I didn't move the entire time and really really need to go visit that place.

Ironically, given the dearth of new/good shows, my wife and I started watching Chernobyl as she hasn't seen it.

Wife and I planned a trip to Spain around the Jordi Roca episode, eating at his restaurant. Reservations are made a year in advance if I remember correctly. He’s the pastry chef who makes the dessert infused with dirt.

Best meal of our lives.

Chernobyl is an interesting show in part because different viewers can enjoy it on different levels. My wife and daughter like "true crime" and documentary shows, and this certainly works as a somewhat-fictionalized retelling of the Chernobyl disaster. But the show is really "about" the Soviet Union and how bureaucratic organizations fail. The nuclear disaster is just a backdrop. The show works brilliantly both ways.

Definitely not the feel good hit of the summer

The thing I remember was the art direction and the way they told the story and captured moments. This guy hopefully can capture that on this ”Last of Us“ show.

One of my favorite "Courtroom scenes " in a long time is the final episode.

Binged through both seasons of Alice in Borderland. Incredible show. Incredible ending.

Loved the show, but the ending fell flat for the wife and I. Too drawn out I think, and while the ending leaves you pondering some it quickly passes unlike something like Inception for instance.

I just finished The Leftovers and White Lotus and need something similar with amazing acting and writing. Things in my queue are Succession, You, Rectify, Last Kingdom.

Oh poo, I somehow thought Last of Us was on Prime… it’s on HBO. I guess I’ll wait until the season is finished then get a month of HBO to watch the whole thing.

Thanks for the recommendations but dammit I got roped into The Watcher and now have to finish this before starting something else. I just know it wont be nearly as good.

Wow Station Eleven was a masterpiece. First few episodes were slow but pretty perfect towards the conclusion. Highest recommendation if you haven’t seen it yet.
I’m reading the book now. Can’t wait to see the show.

I can’t wait to read the book.

There was a scene in episode 9 that was maybe one of the most emotional tv moments I’ve ever seen.

I've said before in here that the show was way better than the book. You can probably skip it.

The last of us pilot was amazing (no spoilers)

Felt very true to the 2013 video game and filled in storyline gaps the game didn't have

This may have been one of the most satisfying series I've ever watched. Give it six months or so and then do a re-watch and it gets even better. You described it as a masterpiece, I called it beautiful. I think it's both.
