Man, this show has some great characters. Other than Shuke Oswalt I didn't recognize any of the actors in this. They are all incredible. I haven't liked a show's cast this much since The Wire.

The ending with the quick flashback to his brother was fantastic. I realized it was about to end right as it was happening because it was so well done and subtle.

Its been a while, but my recollection is that Jimmy wants the restaurant. I thought he asked for either the money or the deed kind of thing. My guess is Carmy gives Jimmy the restaurant and uses the money to open his new location. There is a scene at the very end that shows one can had rolled under the storage rack unopened. I assume that is setting up the drama for season two, as Jimmy will likely find that can and suspect something. Agree the plot points don't make perfect sense.

I was under the impression that the dead brother left the money to Lip so he could use it to fix up the restaurant. He couldn't do it on his own and wanted to leave that legacy for his brother who he was extremely proud of and knew had the talent to make it happen. The sign on the window at the end hinted at the restaurant coming back as a 2.0 version for season 2. Based on the entire vibe of the show it is hard to see them giving up that building, that location, that neighborhood. The notion of a place being one's identity is a major theme for half the cast. Lip giving the money or the restaurant to the uncle eliminates conflict, him keeping both the restaurant and the money maximizes conflict. Good call on the can that got away, that will definitely be found.

The Bear may be my favorite show of 2022, the cast, plot, and setting hit all the right notes for me.

Also... I think the bar/restaurant on the corner closing/for sale is another thing that may play into this... maybe they expand/take over.

She's pretty russian dollish lyonne-ie but it really works with this "columbo" style show in that she's not always the center of attention.

Coherence (Prime): 2014 movie I was unaware of. A dinner party on the night of a comet, strange things start happening. This was a really good movie! It had me talking to the screen, trying to figure out all the twists, mad at bad decisions… it had a bit of a problem trying to land the finale, but that’s okay - I thought this was a hidden gem.

We tried watching this once, IIRC it’s on the top 100 mind-bleep movies of all time list. Didn’t capture the wifes attention though so we shut it off like 5 minutes in

The first episode of Madoff on Netflix was really good. Well done docudrama that has jailhouse interviews with him sprinkled in. Only 4 1hr episodes.
I thought his scam was a little more complex. He wasn't doing anything besides keeping and spending the money. Crazy, especially how the SEC let him slide and even made it so his business exploded after the accountants took the fall.

Having gotten two episodes into Station Eleven, I can see why people thought it was too slow. I know the story and I know where this is all going, but I think if I were tuning into to see a post-apocalyptic show set 20 years after a massive pandemic, I probably wouldn't have anticipated quite this much Shakespeare. The book certainly had lots of flashbacks to various points in time, but it feels like the show has even more. I personally like this, since it fills in backstory on an as-needed basis and also emphasizes the sense of loss that the characters all feel.

Edit: A little further in now. This is terribly unfair to the actor, but when he appears on screen I absolutely see Tobias Funke performing a role, not the character that I'm supposed to be seeing. This was an unfortunate casting choice IMO.

Tales of the Walking Dead (AMC+): Zombie anthology! All using WD zombie rules (slow), but the first 2 haven’t been liked at all, unless I’m missing things that bigger WD fans catch. Essentially, this looks like a series of 45 minute zombie mini-movies. Special effects are minimal, stunts are weak… but let’s see how the stories are.

Episode 1: Terry Crewes and Olivia Munn. Prepper decides to leave his bunker to find a lady prepper he used to chat with. I liked it, there were some good surprises. Crewes can’t act a lick.

Episode 2: Parker Posey. This was awesome. I won’t spoil it, but this was a great layering of concepts. Posey is so good at playing someone odious.

Episode 3 sucked donkey. It was an origin story of Alpha, who’s a stupid character.

Episode 4 (Anthony Edwards) was interesting - a guy studying the walkers and making nature documentaries… but while the ending was right for a zombie story, it was a bit dreary.

Episode 5 (A-Train from The Boys) was pretty trippy - a guy trying to piece together his story while suffering from a head injury and about to be lynched for murder. I liked it.

Tales of the Walking Dead episode 6: A haunted house story basically without zombies. Some good stuff in here, but the ending confused me. Probably didn’t really belong in this anthology.

Watched it last night and it was pretty good. I'm a sucker for "fish out of water" stories so that was a plus for me.

Yeah. Not realistic, but worth watching Elba stalk around in a long coat and chew up the scenery for three seasons.

Yes. Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson make it really good for a TV series (and at least moderately good for a non-TV series). You do have to suspend disbelief some of the time, but it still gets pretty creepy.

Finished this last night. Definitely two thumbs up.

It's been a while since I read the book so I'm overlooking some stuff, but they definitely changed quite a bit for the show. Some of the changes are really excellent, and some don't work out so well. Still, it's a nicely-done show and much better than the standard post-apocalypse content that we're all used to.

You’re right. I read a really positive review right after the show was released and that was apparently a serious outlier, now that I’m googling it again.

The Missing
2 seasons, British
right now you can watch it on Acorn TV, which is free for a week if you have Amazon Prime

Each season is about a different missing child/children and the attempts of parents and police and others to find them. The acting is very good and some of the scenes are just gut-wrenching and agonizing. There is very little wasted screen time; it keeps the viewer drawn in. It is never obvious if they'll find "who did it" or if they'll find the child or children. The end of the last episode of Season 1 (in Russia) just floored me. Season 2 is equally as good.

It's not popular or talked about, but it is very good.
