I've never seen True Detective but if Jodie Foster is in this, I need to. Are all the seasons good? All anyone ever talks about is Season 1.
Season 1 was one of the best seasons of TV ever. Season 2 was one of the worst. Season 3 was pretty decent but forgettable.
Just started season 4Larry Sanders Show was always something I'd kind of watch but never really sat down to watch it like I would with other HBO shows.
Until now. Season 1, Episode 1 last night. Got through 3 of them.
So good.
I started The Bear last night.
Had to force myself to turn it off at 2am
Amazing show but does my wife have to blurt out "Corner chef!" every time she brushes past me in the kitchen now? Starting to get old.I started The Bear last night.

Rolled through the eight episodes and found it entertaining enough to search this thread to see if anyone else commented on it.Sebastian Maniscalco is the lead in this. Rob Corddry is also in the cast. Agree with Zow's assessment. It isn't breaking any new ground, but it is enjoyable to watch. In the vein of Ballers, Entourage, etc.Watched the episodes of "Bookie" (HBO) that have been released and enjoyed it decent enough - 7/10.
It's a show along the lines of shows where it flirts between a drama and dark comedy while interspersing some gratuitous and unexpected violence and sex/nudity. Very HBO. It's not going to be riveting nor likely something I think about five years from now, but it's been a fun and interesting watch so far. There are also some really good celebrity cameos with some playing characters (Ray Ramano plays a deadbeat gambling addict in the first scene) and other playing themselves (Charlie Sheen, reunited with Chuck Lorre, plays himself).
Man I keep forgetting they weren't all released at once. I hated to see Katy go but I loved watching her walk away.Letterkenny last season, season 12 is out. Will miss you Miss Katy Cats....
The episode where he spends time at the Michelin star restaurant was one of my favorite episodes of tv in recent years. So powerful!Richie was a great character

The dork BIL is absolute gold. If I were a writer on The Bear, I would be tempted to overuse him, but they have probably done the right thing in using him sparingly. The scene with the dork BIL and Jamie Lee Curtis outside the restaurant was unbelievable. One of so many, but that one hit me.
And if I was a young actor, I would use Carms Al-Anon speech as my monologue.
Yeah. I finished S2.

At least you’ll be closer to the BullDolls reunionI blame/credit The Bear for our decision to move back to Chicago in the next 15-18 months.

Just in case you think I was making that up.
Finished it up last night. Good finale I thought and a great series in all. The production value of the show is up there with all time shows and really captured the mystique and oddness of the whole thing.Last season of the crown was very uneven and all the focus on William sucked. But it was an excellent finale.
Enjoyed the show a lot and am pleased I can now return to never thinking about those morons ever again.

I mean, the show is funny. They don't really have an in-between category (nor does the Emmys), so basically, for stuff that falls in between, 1/2 hour shows are "comedies" and 1 hour shows are "dramas."I didn't realize The Bear was a comedy/musical.
Golden Globes: 'The Bear' wins best television series (musical or comedy)
They def shoehorned it in there. Would have lost to Succession so I guess this worked out for them.I didn't realize The Bear was a comedy/musical.

Watched that All The Light We Cannot See. It was well done but didn’t really capture my attention, probably because I was all hopped up on gummies and wine and was checking football scores, so I didn’t give it my full attention

I mean in fairness he described me exactly as to how I'm usually watching TV shows so if his target audience is, well, me, he's the perfect critic.Watched that All The Light We Cannot See. You've really got a knack for this. Have you ever thought about giving up your current profession and becoming a movie critic?
See, I can't stand the idea that a first world, civilized country still has a monarchy and I loathe anything about the British monarchy so this is exactly why I don't want to watch this show.Last season of the crown was very uneven and all the focus on William sucked. Echo the love for The Bear. Binged the whole thing (both seasons) over new years. Great show.
Absolutely couldn't stand the Richie character until the Forks episode. Just a great piece of TV and character development.
The Christmas episode was obviously absurd but insanely good. Jaime Lee Curtis just killed it
I don't think his week of forks fundamentally changed who Richie is. He's still a loudmouth whose heart is in the right place. What changed is that at least the last 5-ish years of his life -- from the time of the Fishes episode (maybe before, we don't know) until just before he spent his week at the high-end restaurant -- were defined by failure, and it messed with his psyche, and his week of forks showed him a path toward overcoming that. Perfectly believable.Echo the love for The Bear. Binged the whole thing (both seasons) over new years. Great show.

I had the opposite reaction to Forks in terms of the Richie character. I didn't hate the episode overall but didn't buy the change in Richie's character in Forks. I thought he was a great character up until that episode and just can't accept that spending a few nights polishing forks at a fancy restaurant could so fundamentally change who he is. I loved Fishes - one of the best episodes of any show in recent years - but I thought season 2 was far inferior to 1. There was a ton of filler in the first 4-5 episodes but the finale really put me over the edge. The ridiculous contrived part of Carmy being locked in the cooler and babbling nonsense not knowing Claire is outside the door had me questioning the whole season.
I'm kinda with you on Richie and the cooler scene.Echo the love for The Bear. Binged the whole thing (both seasons) over new years. Great show.

One of the best things that the writers and actors did with the Mulaney and Sarah Paulson characters was keep them on the periphery but show them genuinely connected to the other characters. And especially to convey that they live in New York, far, far away from the chaos that is the Berzotto family, and prefer it that way.I'm kinda with you on Richie and the cooler scene.Echo the love for The Bear. I would've preferred a less abrupt catharsis for Richie... Maybe stretched out over a few episodes, started by "I wear suits now" in practice, but eventually getting to him actually wearing suits now in behavior.
As soon as I saw where the cooler scene was going, it felt like a too cheap plot contrivance not befitting the writing that has come before from that team. Seemed like something out of network drama, not this.
My favorite part of the fishes episode was Mylaney and wife who were able to stay somehow on the fringe of the mayhem, giving a more sympatico viewpoint for the typical tv viewer.
But I maintain that the scene between dork BIL and Jamie Lee was breathtaking. He just killed that scene.. as good as Jamie Lee was (and it's easy to be distracted by an actor letting loose as "crazy")
Agree with the bold as I found the cooler scene to also cheapen what was otherwise a stellar season. I saw it coming and was genuinely mad that the cooler scene ruined Carmy's relationship. To me, that relationship already had enough realistic and problematic issues that they didn't have to kill it. In other words, I felt the show would be justified in giving Carmy this one nice thing and the "Fishes" episode along with Carmy's mom refusing to come into the restaurant was just overkill on the writers' part.I'm kinda with you on Richie and the cooler scene.Echo the love for The Bear. But yeah, the cooler thing was very Three's Company.
Season 1 was more consistent but season 2 had higher peaks -- mainly Fishes and Forks, also the drama around the fire suppression system and many of the Marcus scenes in Europe.

I just thought that on top of that depressing scene that Carmy didn't also have to botch his relationship with his girlfriend. In other words, I thought the combination of the two "sad" events was too much.
Interesting, I didn't think of it that way. I took it more so as this was Carmy's chance to impress his mom and make her proud and his mom deprived him of that.Gotcha... For me, mom not going in made it less depressing not more. It was going to be another goofy Trainwreck like Fishes... And we already had that scene. I thought they played it really well with the writing there. And I was unhappily anticipating her blowing **** up in the restaurant... Relieved they didn't go that road.
